So, apparently SOE are showing off Everquest Next this weekend, and it's supposed to be the **** according to MMORPG who voted it their best in show at E3, even though they couldn't say anything about it.

E3 - Best of Show: Everquest Next

Say what? You thought this one wasn’t at E3? Well, really... it wasn’t in any official capacity. But we were treated to an early look at what SOE has planned for the game’s unveiling in August and we were quite simply blown away by every little detail we saw. This is going to sound like a cop-out, but we can't say why we are choosing EQN as our Best of Show because we've been sworn to secrecy until the big debut in August. What we can say is that we saw grand plans for the world's largest sandbox and it was more than enough to stand head and shoulders above any game we saw at E3. When Sony pulls back the curtain later this summer, you will not be disappointed. EverQuest Next is this year's E3 Best of Show, and in just a couple months you'll all understand why. We promise.

So, anyone excited about this? Or are we all so jaded with new mmo's that we'll all play for a month and then go back to Warcraft?

    Read this http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/08/02/first-look-everquest-next/

I'm trying not to get my hopes up but that article makes it difficult.

edit: just finished wtching the stream, it does sound incredible, let's hope they can pull it off.

How many times now have MMORPG helped hyped the crap out of new MMO's or given them over the top favorable preview's and reviews for games that turned out to be pure garbage.

Time will of course tell but Iv given up on the next big thing at this stage.

I won't be buying the hype this time around. But, I will give it a go if it's F2P.

Usual SOE policy of hyping the hell out of a game but I don't trust a word that comes from Smedly's mouth.

The landscape looks sweet and the destructibility element seem like a cool idea but the character models look awful imho. As always time will tell.

Three video's were released, to who how the terrain can be shaped. Looks pretty damn impressive (especially the 1st one).

This game is looking amazing so far, the animation the look ( yea i hate the cat people to) and the world building tools, its like if mine craft was a proper mmo.

Looks interesting. However I have to say i'm even more confused about the sandbox mode thing after seeing the latest video on EQN on IGN. Is it instanced for each player/ a group of players? How is it connected with the main game? Anybody know?

Their revenue model is very worrying though, sounds like you can't actualy have great wealth and assets in the game without paying a fair bit of real money. I mean just look at how expensive those founder packs are! I would have preffered a monthly sub or a revenue model like that of wildstars. It's really putting me off what otherwise looks to be a very innovative and exciting type of mmo. :(

As far as i know its two separate games basically the the creator version where you build, and a more normal kinda mmo but you can bring in things for your personal space or buy them from other players who made them, and join player made content that is made in the creator client.

TBH im finding the information coming out about it to be very muddled and a lot of people are going be hella confused about what, im still not sure how its going to work exactly.

There's Everquest Next: Landmark, which is an early version of the gameworld which allows you to get used to the building mechanics. Than there's the actual game, which will be released much later. That's more of a standard MMO.

Here's a new video for Everquest Next Landmark btw. It looks pretty fantastic, and if they can have this building model in the full game it'll be insanely impressive.

That was the video i was talking about. It looks impressive but it seems odd that they would release a video like this without explaining properly how this is integrated with the full mmo.

Im assuming it would be like rift in the home instance, so you could either make your own stuff or buy some thing made another person.

And i do believe you are able to make your own zones kind of with it, so im assuming will be like the never winter online thing where you can jump into player made content or some thing.

As far as I can gather (and I may be wrong), Landmark is essentially Minecraft with better graphics. You can explore the land and create structures of all kinds. What you build depends on what materials you find. In the video above (if it's the same I've seen before, I can't view it at the moment) the guy paints some landscape with snow. He'd have to find somewhere with snow, mine it and then he can use it (I'm not sure if you can only use the amount you mine, or if once you mine one unit you have an infinite amount you can use. I think it could be the second option, though).

When you build something, you can save it and then import it into Next, when that comes out. You can also put it up in an online shop, so others can buy your design. And if someone uses part of your design in their own creations and sells it on, you get some money for it.

You can also claim sections of land, but they haven't explained how that works. I don't think it's done in instances though. I think people will actually be manipulating the main world, which could be amazing or a total disaster.

I've no idea if they're going to keep Landmark running after Next is released, but considering how excited they seem to be over it, I wouldn't be surprised if they do.

What are you basing that on?

Guild wars 2 has taught me not to trust anything i see till a game comes out, yes gw2 looks good but it isn't fun imo

Yeah, your right. Like, or have you been like.

    Ok so lets brainstorm.

    GW2:
    Zones

We have many zones in GW2, some are really good, we must think about the green ones, and that snow one (NORM Starting area -> city , BY FAR THE BEST in any game I have ever experiended. Just wonderful really,

Now, like EQN will be rocking, Sony has always been one of by far the best companies, it ran by SOE game dev, they are really motivated and passionate about the game, it sure as hell looks great, now we can judge of course, but this game truly is special, and for the ever years ahead it will be by far, in my opinion one of the leading games, because we are entering a new year and all that, but this game it is great, it truly is, It opens up all these doors and everything, really it truly is a piece of art, and its the game that you can get into, forever going, its motivating and god I love it,

    Thanks so much for reading,
You make extremely valid points, and yes GW2 is pretty lame.

    Anyway, ok .

    Thanks once again... ... ! .

Agree on the SOE point, seem to be a solid dev team, although i never played EQ1 i played planetside 1 and 2 to death which is owned by SOE, i can say the dev team are really passionate about their games.

I am looking forward to seeing what comes of EQN i'm just trying not to get too excited so the come down isn't too much if it doesn't meet everyones expectations :pac:

Well looks like I'll be buying the founders pack in January next year for Alpha access and what won me over was this video.

Prices are here; basically $20 for beta; $60 for alpha.

It's a bit of a strech to make such claims when we know so little about this game! The information around at the moment is extremelly limited as this game won't be coming out until at least the start of 2015 (probably well into 2015).

I was excited for this game after E3, that is until i saw this page: https://www.eqnlandmark.com/founders-pack

The most expensive is an insane 100$ ! Who on earth do they expect to pay that much for a F2P game that has barely any information about it availible. This sounds like a very bad start to what will eventually become the EQN cash shop. I'll keep my mind open until the full game comes out, but they are going to have to come out with some really great stuff to get me excited about the game again.

Yes, good points but the game is still being fully developed. They starched the whole game EQN 2 times in a total of 3 years before, and have been working on like crazy in the past 2 years.

So the alpha started the other day, and they already lifted the NDA, looking forward to seeing some footage and first impressions !

Strange that they lifted it. I'm in the Alpha and it's pretty cool. Still plenty of things missing from it, but it's like Minecraft with advanced editing tools. There's been a few hiccups, though. As you can see from that video, trying to find a space to build is a nightmare. And after spending a while constructing something, the game crashed for me. When I logged back in, my claimed land didn't seem to exist. And the free claim flag you get at the beginning was gone, and you can't yet make any more. So unless they sort that, I'm left unable to do anything. Which kind of sucks.
