They're all asleep now it's ok
Btw mine are milking 16 l at the mo 5 fat and 4 p. silage despite its quality has dropped it.
Once you start silage the grass utilisation becomes difficult

I find they graze well during the day. We have really shrunk the night allocation and it seems to be working.

Only an observation but cows averaging 8 lites must have a very low l/p ratio. The guy i was talking about above las month had a l/p of 4.11 for month which deducts x ammount from that price.I dont have booklet with deduction ammount at moment.Still a serious price though.

My dad has dropped afew comments about the poor volume of the JEs, I tell him something similar, and remind him about how they are all still early spring calving, whereas 2 of ourown heifers have pushed late

Just looked at the Oct milk recording, the best JEx did 6.78% f and 4.68% P, not bad! Only 12L though.

Not bad at all but late lactation the solids tend to rise in all breeds, all Holstein here and recorded 1 nov with the highest girl in solids at 6.99bf and 4.74p doing 15kgs, now unfortunately she is the exception rather than the norm when it comes to components here but shes the one to aim for in that department going forward. had one cow alrite came back with fat% over 8 but that can't be right i'm assuming some error was made on the test there

Arrabawn price up 0.3 cent to 39.3 vat inc.think that now makes us highest paying coop in country rather than always bottom of pike!!!.on a down note coop now nearly 2% over quota and milk still pouring in.also heard that Kerry are very near been on quota so if that's the case super levy unfortunately is near certain

Not so good, on top for October supply wont compensate for poor price in peak months

Crikey,do yo ya know I had to look twice or three times at it,achieved over 50c a litre for the first time ever on the manufacturing milk, thanks to the high protein  :):) November's are just as high but will take a dive next week when the cows will be taken off grass.

yes you sign up to agrilink, just ring farm services and they will set you up with a pin etc, you can view your milk statement from 16th of the month, its very handy, you can also view the milk tests results before you get the text

    4wks, dec 5wks.

Interesting having a quick glance inside the farming indo today, one chap who is getting paid 55c/l and over quota says he ain't going to take the foot off the accelerator at all. Even Kerry is almost over by now. I've caught back up alot to myown quota, with giving the cows a shorter dryoff time, at this rate I shouldn't be much more than 10kL under, and given where I started last April, I didn't think that would be possible at all!

Kerry pulled a stunt 2 yrs ago where they told farmers that the situation was serious and they would be over quota... However, when 1st march came.. They told us 'twas all lies and to supply away.....

I hope they are pulling the same stunt again

unfortunitly some guys don't understand how the butterfat reference works. at over 6% butterfat unless he has a serious reference his quota will be massively reduced.

Doesn't really surprise me, things have been slow to kick back off in the usa, even with the low grain price. Cull cows still making good money, and a far few big dairyfarmers went to the wall over there last year and haven't come back, or been replaced supposedly.

Only thing I'd be worried about will a longer good spell mean an even bigger dip in milk prices when (if! :p) the next crash comes due to a huge oversupply, so I won't remortgage the farm and buy out all the land around me just yet ha!

18 litre reduction for every 1000l quota held per 0.1 % over reference bf if i`m not mistaken
    ...
heres hoping he milked jerseys in 1983..:)

Is that the way the reference BF works, I thought it was just a national average from back then! Mine is 3.67, where does that stack up with the rest of yas?

Just taking the 18/1000l per .1, assuming his reference was the same as mine, that 6% means 1 of his litres stings him for 1.42L of quota, 28cent * 1.42 is 39cent superlevy cost?
