    Frustrating as **** watching that.

Our defence was good I thought but we didn't offer much else. Very annoying when you consider Ajax were definitely there for the taking. Samaras, Forrest and Commons all had off nights.

Well that's that really. Over and out.

We were rank rotten first half. Played better 2nd half, but outclassed in midfield.

    Poor campaign this year.

Painful to watch at times! Do or die against Milan now :(

Can't remember being so disappointed by a Celtic performance for a long time, aside from the back 4 we were a shambles.

I was delighted that Commons & Samaras were passed fit but after 10 mins it was obvious that Commons especially was miles of the pace and iI think it really cost us.

Can't believe Lennon left it so long to make a change(and then imo he made the wrong ones)

Our passing was as bad as I've ever seen it, the stats on completed passes I'd imagine is embarrassingly low. No surprise our fitness suffered at the end, we were chasing shadows all game.

Need to stop shoehorning players into the team, Ledley should have started ahead of Mulgrew and for me Forrest is still below the level required to start these games.

I'm really not sure where the blame lies for this performance as I'm sure Lennon didn't tell them to misplace their passes but he certainly did set them up negatively the same as he did in Milan when we had a chance of points.

Only plus point tonight is I resisted the temptation to throw the controller through the tv

Plus point was back four and goalie were excellent.
Virgil was magnificent, and it took a special goal from Ajax to get through.

Pukki does more in 30 secs than Sammy & Commons did in 80 mins.

Pukki doesn't look to be the answer, he's had a good few games now and so far he looks like a dud.

The first player Lennon took off tonight was Stokes, which was fair enough, because he hasn't taken his chance to be Celtic's number 1 striker after Hooper was sold. I don't think it's for the want of trying with Stokes, he's just not CL standard.

He left Commons on way too long - when Commons looked completely unfit - in desperation, because he had no other options.

That Ajax team were at times skillful but were largely a harmless enough outfit. Celtic should be beating them to 3rd place in this Group. That race for 3rd is not over yet.

Complacency was the real problem tonight. We're seeing it in the league, and it's spilling over into Europe now. We are a far better side than we showed for 85 minutes tonight.

Samaras should be dropped from the team after that performance. I think that's possibly the worst I have ever seen him play, and I'm a fan of his. He was just awful.

No competition in the league leads to performances like that. Instinctively the players know they can get away with poor performances in the league and still win it, and of course that's going to spill over into Europe. We have definitely seen that this season in Europe, and in particular tonight. That is what is so disappointing about it. It was a novelty last season, this season it's affecting us. The sooner Rangers are back in the top division the better tbh, because the league is just dire without them for competition.

Pass marks to VVD, Lustig, Ambrose, Izzy, Forrest and Kayal. Lustig played his heart out tonight, with VVD close behind him - they really looked like the only two who cared. We really missed Brown. I thought Samaras, Commons, Stokes and Mulgrew were poor.

Milan is a must win now. I still think we can win that game at home, we can beat anyone at CP.

Stokes may not have had a good game tonight but that was mostly down to our midfield being so poor, Mulgrew, Samaras, Commons & Forrest were all way off pace and one of them should have come off first and way earlier than the substitutions were made.

Pukki isn't a goal scorer and Never will be but his link up play has been decent at times and would have been an improvement on Samaras & Commons tonight.

But therein lies one of our main problems, guys like Mulgrew being shoehorned into the team ahead of proper central midfield players like Ledley in big games.

For me Hooper isn't the player we are missing as we made no chances, Wanyama is the big loss in the side, a player that doesn't panic when he has the ball and will always find a man with a pass. Ledley is the same but for some reason he always seems to be the one that misses out to accommodate Mulgrew

Ledley could've played tonight instead of Kayal, but maybe Lennon felt Kayal was more match fit than Ledley. Of those two I think Ledley should have played.

As for Mulgrew, Lenny always picks him, because despite being unspectacular, he never lets him down and he rarely if ever get's injured. So I guess he's dependable, like Kevin Kilbane was for Ireland for years, always available and rarely injured or suspended.

As I said earlier in the thread, I think Brown was missed tonight big time. He would have had an influence against that Ajax side tonight.

However, the bad news doesn't end with the match.
Seems 15 people arrest, mostly Celtic "fans" apparently

    http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/champions-league/2013/1107/485126-violence-mars-celtics-defeat-in-amsterdam/

Celtic's Champions League trip to Ajax has been marred by a clash between supporters and police in the centre of Amsterdam before kick-off, following which 15 fans have been arrested.

39 in total by now, those first 15 mentioned are all Celtic fans according to Dutch police.

Was there any Ajax fans arrested in Glasgow, heard they were ripping up seats etc.? I never associated Ajax with hooliganism before, always thought Feyenoord and Ado Den Haag were more known for that. There was an attack on Celtic fans by Ajax fans the other night, I guess things got a bit hot under the collar.

Anything mentioned yet by the police about the Dutch hooligans attacking Celtic fans the night before. They are being economical with the information of what happened over the last few days.

I think that was covered pretty extensively, even led to the club advising fans to be careful in Amsterdam

How many dutch fans were arrested over it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,243 ✭✭✭✭Jelle1880

So far they say 49 arrests made, 28 of them Scottish.

I can only assume there were at least a few Dutch arrested, but not much talk about that.

Understandable really. Ajax fans causing trouble isn't even very newsworthy. A thoroughly nasty bunch. Hopfeully that's the last time we're drawn with them. Their police force sound no better, glad some of them got their just desserts.

^ You do realise that it's a joke made all the time, ever since your fans genuinely tried to blame Manchester on "Chelsea and Millwall fans disguised as Rangers"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,243 ✭✭✭✭Jelle1880

Yeah, I do know that but somehow I think he's serious.

Could it have anything to do with supporters of your club being notoriously incapable of humour? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,243 ✭✭✭✭Jelle1880

When his response is that he was 'fishing' for comments you can be pretty sure he was serious, and when he realised what an idiot he was he changed his story.

    Reminds me of this ;)

So because it's a joke at the expense of your team, you decide it was meant seriously. Even though it's the same joke that's been made loads. Ok.

Maybe you're right, maybe he's a moron. He is on Twitter so there's that. On the balance of probabilities though, given it's a joke we've heard made pretty much every time there's trouble with fans, it would be likely he's just joking.

I wonder did Andrew Morrison go to Amsterdam for the game, he seems to have the munchies

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,903 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Hooliganism is a big thing in Netherlands.
There are strict controls on who can buy tickets.
Recently away fans have been banned for Feyenoord-Ajax matches.

So there is a significant group of Ajax fans who are no saints.

(I do mean this as a very general comment, I've no idea what happened surrounding yesterday's match, not trying to blame Ajax fans or anything)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 438 ✭✭Antifa161

Ajax fans started trouble in Glasgow prior to the match. They started trouble in the stadium during the match. They started trouble in Amsterdam the day before the match. They displayed sectarian banners and sung sectarian songs in both matches. I think it's pretty obvious which set of supporters bear the brunt of the guilt here, and I say that as a Celtic fan tired of our goody goody reputation.

Sweep sweep, we're only interested in trouble when its Rangers fans, sweep sweep.

Even the "hun media" are playing the victim card protecting the celtic fans.

Not to mention ridiculous headlines from the sun ""28 SCOTS arrested", the club would be named if it was us.

At least Sky Sports have had the balls to say you made an arse of yourselves with the police and give the club a bad name.

Thats the difference, we condemn our fans for the trouble we cause, quite regularly, not the other way around. That carpet must be like a speed bump right now.

A really good pal was at the game.

He said Ajax casuals and Zagreb casuals caused alot of the bother in the sq beforehand. Cops arrested loads. Apparently Ajax fans took exception to Palestine flags at Parkhead as they are a Jewish club??? Never heard that before.

He left the match at half time and back to the hotel as they were getting so much grief. Getting pi88ed on etc.

It's called quoting, Dutch police stated scots arrested rather than Celtic fans arrested.

Please leave the conspiracies to us from now in, you're doing it wrong :)
