Does anyone else find it really hard to keep track of passwords nowadays?
You're encouraged not to use the same password too because of the threat of hacking. I know there is software you can get that helps you store multiple passwords as one, but then if you want to login away from your standard computer it becomes a pain. Although I don't know a great deal about this software so maybe I'm mistaken here?

Also now some companies won't allow to use a previously used password.
Some places want symbols, numbers or a capitol letter included too. They're not exactly the easiest pieces of information to remember in your head.
The most popular password on the internet was apparently, "password".

You can't even include the word password with a lot of sites anymore

I really hope in the next few years passwords become a thing of the past and an alternative becomes the standard for logging in such as iris recognition.
Or am I unaware of a solution to this personal nuisance already in existence?
How do boardsies cope with remembering dozens of passwords and would people be weary of using the same password on multiple accounts?

Put said software on a USB key. Keep USB key with you. Voila! I made one for my dad and he loves it. Protip #4 Don't lose the USB key and keep a spare one.

Password policies are bullsh*t though and in some cases make pre-computing even easier.

I just use the username with 500@XYZ at the end. No one will ever guess that. Plus I don't tell any one.

Of course it is and I'm very lucky to have this issue as a nuisance for me.
But if everyone was just suddenly content with how everything is right now in the first world we'd be stuck here for ever.
Imagine being content with candle lit lighting at the time. Granted it would be romantic but I likes my lightbulbs :P

Great service. $12 a year, all passwords completely safe (encrypted even before they're uploaded to Lastpass servers). Been using it for a while now. Also allows for use of 2 factor authentication.

An easy way to create a complicated password is to use a short sentence with capitals.

For instance

I use lastpass and can log in from any laptop from the browser.

Theres also settings on it where if you go abroad, before you go you can click on settings that will allow you to log in from country you are going to.

I use the same password for everything. Its 7 characters, if I need 8 I just add 1 to the end.

Passwords are fine in general, unless there is some crazy need to have alternating caps, numbers and special characters in'em.

It's very hard if they have to be changed regularly. It can be quite exhaustive remembering them in such circumstances.

Feck, I don't even know my home phone number and that hasn't changed in 5 years!

Just mix em up a bit. Put sometyhing like !1 at the end of a password to meke it harder to break. Or add something like B! at the end of the boards password. Then say A! at the end of an amazon password. basically the first letter of the company and a !

It's not that hard, just write it down on a piece of paper. Use the password a few times, then eat and/or set fire to the piece of paper. I remember mine pretty quickly, and they're always being reset in work.

just create your own algorithm in your head for passwords.

Say for example you relate your pass to a relevant object near you.

it is in this case a house 23 main street, dublin 9 is my object

this password requires a special char and a capital letter

I would create the password "£Atu9

with my algorithym being, symbols over the numbers in the address on the keyboard and the second letter in each word and a number in the end for good measure.

lets see a hacker break that in a hurry

Not a good idea. Sites get hacked all the time. Boards.ie was hacked once that they know of.

Once they get your password and email for one site they can automatically try them on a bunch of other sites, email accounts, etc.

1Password, fantastic piece of software. Integrates with devices and browsers and is easy to use. Has some great features, worth at least double what it costs.

I use a different password for every site, but I keep them all written down in a notebook beside my desk. I couldn't be arsed trying to remember them all.
