    Ah thermodynamics :)

What hell awaits you you can't realise :pac:

Looking at anything from a thermodynamic view just takes the interesting stuff out of it.
Other than sterling engines though, they are cool little things :)

The main thing about thermo is that as soon as you understand one aspect you realize that you have absolutely no idea what's happening at all :o

It's like the highest failed module of second year but sure I will worry about come exam time :pac: we had thermo labs last week and I spent 16 hours writing a lab report on the efficiency of a 25 l air compressor it was crap not even a big air compressor basically the one you would buy in aldi. Ah well most of the other modules arnt too bad so I can't complain too much.

During third year I had some real "AAAhhhh I have it now" moments, followed by something else added into the equation and having a particularly sad "nope sorry actually have no idea" :o

It's one tough subject with mad variables and infinite bits and pieces to be considered!

@Bp - I got out with 43%, having a far higher GPA. Probably my lowest scoring subject. If I can be of any help to ya give me a shout, I have a very good book on the subject too that makes it a good bit easier :)

Thermodynamics of motors and its effects on efficiency. Still on topic :p

I've always wondered, why is it called a rotary engine? whats the difference, i know i can google it but i prefer a real person tell me

Its basic enough really just a triangle with slightly curved sides rotating around a circular chamber. Each side of the triangle is slightly different which causes less area between the 3 triangle wall and cylinder wall. So as it spins around the smaller area causes the fuel air mixture to compress and then the spark plug sparks when it most compressed. The most ingenious part of the engine is it has no valves so can rev higher. Where as normal engines revs are restricted by how quick the valves can open and close. It's probably a crap explanation it's easier to describe with the working animation.

Efficiency? not interested! Burn all the fuel, kill the planet! POWAAAHH!

No no that makes sense, the topic came up in class the other day among a few of us and nobody really knew how it worked, but that makes sense :)

Guys, without the second law of thermodynamics, we wouldnt have big bang cosmology, quantum mechanics, part of string theory and Hawking would never have realised that black holes radiate energy;)

Edit: yes I have too much time on my hands :)

This website gives good detail on how a rotary engine works :)

This is giving me flashbacks. I attempted to do engineering wayyy back. Thank fck I dropped out. Otherwise I'd probably have no job now.

And sure without Newton's Laws we would be in a whole heap of bother too...

F*ck that reminds me, we must get that into the van soon.... I suggested compounding it, I was told there's plenty of room for that :D but not going to happen on account of me rebuilding the turbo.... Oh well! If there's a next time for engine swaps there I'm calling the shots :pac:

If I get a Daily someday it's getting compounded for sure

It will be some mess when it goes in that's for sure :pac: pull type clutch and all, who has the job of looking after that....

Currently has a slight blow in the exhaust, front UJ is saying it wants to go and the clutch pedal issue.... It'll prob be done in the next month :D
