I made a few tweaks to the eq settings tonight, I recon its a bit cleaner sound now, especially on the stronger signals. When this wind event is over i'm gonna raise the antenna at least another foot. The "lovely ladies that lunch" around here haven't mentioned it at all sofar.:D

Its gonna be on something a bit stronger than the curtain pole also!

Nearly 1500 posts on here now, if nothing else this ATC lark is teaching me how to type!

is it just me or is the feed now a bit ground heavy? not sure if its the time im listening at, or what do other people think?

btw the feed is mega clear now Pat! good job with the EQ :)

Could be, I havent listened today, ground and approach are being "double scanned" at the moment, it was for the possible wind event at the weekend.

I will reset when I get home.

    Done

Edit: not done as it happens, turns out it was Approach / Tower that where twice in the list, back to normal now anyway but that doesn't explain "Ground heavy" so maybe it was just a busy period?

Urajoke said it before, its always gonna be hard if not impossible to cover so many freq on the one feed.

But I think, that after a while listening your ear gets tuned in and you can follow it.

I really dont want to drop any freq as my feed gives a great "overview" as how busy Dublin airport ATC really is.

If anyone, say a passenger waiting is more drawn to just listening to Tower, then that choice of feed is there, same as a spotter at the field may choose the "ground / app / tower" feed as that probably has all he/she needs.

I think we just have to suffer the few missed Tx and the odd time that one freq seems to take over from the rest.

Now having said that:D If im listening and hear something of interest, or if a weather event is forecast, then the feed can at times tighten up to just the one freq or whatever suits. It actually happened yesterday or the day before when a female controller got suitably stroppy with a unauthorized ground movement.

listening to it now, it must have been a v busy patch for ground! feed is spot on pat!

I did notice the 'ground heavy' over the last few days but it doesn't really bother me.

I would suggest that during a weather event, a focus is placed on Tower (118.6) and Approach (121.1). Ground (121.8) would also be useful but in such an event the tower will give us the go a rounds and other last minute decisions.

    That's just my 2 cents.

Fair play to Pat. It's difficult to get it all in with one feed but I think what is fed is an excellent representation of movements at EIDW.

There is an antonov 12 due in around 1200 today and it will be departing around 1400, if it is on time......

Should be easy to spot with the plumes of smoke that come out of the engines, not the most environmentally friendly thing ;-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 618 ✭✭✭Dublinflyer

    That's an interesting one..

Must be Higgins on his way back from South America. Did they contact Dublin ATC? Surely they'd land at Baldonnel?

Edit: Yeah I just heard Irish 251.

UR-DWF or UR-CAJ both where in Belfast instead yesterday.

It was holding as there was a bit of weather passing over BAL so they held for a while.

Interesting to note that http://www.flightradar24.com/GLF4 is not unique, when I punch it in now, its showing me a GLF4 over Miami.

    note to self :)

Quite unusual now. DUB has just had 3 different runways in use, RWY 10 for a FR to Tenerife, RWY 16 for Swiss to Zurich and now switching to RWY 28 for remaining departures.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 618 ✭✭✭Dublinflyer

The wind was all over the place that day so they swapped a few times during the day, dual runway ops was in place at that time as well so that is why 16 was available.

I was listening this afternoon and heard someone (missed the callsign) from an aircraft asking the ground crew to check their fuel level with a dipstick! Is this the norm? Must have been something small!
