So what's the main difference between the 48 tenner a month and the tesco tenner a month plan?

Well with the Tesco plan you are stuck with them for 12 months, even if anything goes wrong.

48months is pay as you go, so you can leave at any time.

Also: 48months offer unlimited texts, while you only get 300 with Tesco:

    €10 Tesco - 12 months, 300 calls, 300 texts, 1GB data
€10 48months, no contract, 300 calls, unlimted texts, 1GB data, 60 calls to landlines.

With 48 months you are getting more for your money and have greater flexibility.

See below to see for info on how to get another €5 off for the first month.

If you are already on o2 and you sign up to 48, can you bring your number with you?

Yes, you can port your number to them.
    ei9go wrote: »
Would not o2 know who you are and your age?

No, that would be against Irelands strict data privacy laws, really there is nothing to worry about this.

Looking to switch my dad from his current way overpriced o2 plan to the 48 €20 per month plan. Can someone explain the process if he wants to keep his number? Do you have to call them up then they send out a sim card or do you get a sim card first and then they can do a changeover? Then is it just a case of waiting for your first €20 bill after a month or do you need to pay anything up front?

    1) You order a sim card, which they post to you.
    2) When you get the sim card, you log into there website to register the sim card and then you can opt to have your existing number ported to the sim. This may take 3 or 4 hours.
    3) 48months is pay as you go, so you have to pay the €10/20 up front, you can do this via the website or by buying credit in a store.

If any of you decide to go ahead with 48months, PM me and I'll send you a link from which you can order the sim and you will then get either €5 or €10 * off the first month with them.

    * depends on the plan you sign up to, €5 off the €10 plan, €10 off the €20 plan.

Thanks for the info. Damn, I was hoping 48's €20 deal was a bill pay, it's my dad I'm looking to sign up and don't want him having to remember to top up every month, it's much better for him to have a bill coming through at the end of each month. Might have to go Tesco so?

Yup, if you use for instance my affiliate link when signing up, you get €10 off the first month and I would also get €10 for referring you. You can then do the same and refer other people to it.

To be honest, I wouldn't recommend it unless I honestly thought it is a great deal.

You can pay for a couple of months is advance, for instance, 1, 3 or 6 months.

You can top up your credit by any amount up to €150, then all he has to do once a month, when his current membership expires, is text "GUIDO" or whatever to 1745.

Thanks guys, that might even be a bit too much effort for him and I don't want the responsibility of having to remind him either. It's also used for business so would be best to have bills coming in anyway.

I just want to put him on a plan which has as many minutes, texts and data as possible for around the €25 mark where he can get a bill each month. Rolling monthly contract is fine. I guess Tesco is probably the next best option so?

Picked up a SIM switching pack at the Tesco kiosk in Jervis the other day and will be using this in a second phone for the month of November to see if I am happy with their service. I'm gonna link it to my Tesco Clubcard and then top it up by €15......if I'm happy with the service after the month I'm gonna go with Tesco from then on and dump Vodafone and their crappy 1GB limit!!

    Cheers,
    M

What's in the sim switching pack that you wouldn't get just getting the sim card? So the sims can be picked up in any tesco store then?

    Hey guys,
Just popped in the Tesco SIM into my phone and now I see a R (Roaming!?) beside the signal bars all the time? Is this normal?

    Cheers,
    M

    Yep.

    Yep.

    Thanks for that........

I am all ready to top up tomorrow by €15 and then get my free calls and will buy the 5GB add on for €10 off them via text or is this the best way to go to get the 5Gb!? It says it will automatically recur after every month when I get it via text?

Also, someone said before that by registering my Tesco Clubcard I would get an extra €5 credit and have €20 to spend but the customer care person I spoke to said that this is not the case?

    Thanks,
    M

Are you moving number? Make sure you get Clubcard points.
Register your Clubcard & top up by €10 or more every month for 3 months: 750 points
Transfer your number to Tesco Mobile: 250 points

    Hey there,
For now I have a second phone and am gonna give Tesco a go for a month on my second phone. If I am happy then I will port my existing 087 number over and leave Vodafone as I am out of contract with them anyhow.

    Cheers,
    M

Went to tesco to get a sim but they didn't have any, they said they don't stock micro sims either and I'd need to get it cut in another phone shop? Is that the same with all Tesco's I wonder?

I went too Tesco Tullamore today looking to get a ""nano sim"" for an iPhone 5c and was told they don't do the nano sim. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,859 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Got the free sim with the voucher above, thanks :)

It's a regular size one, not micro and it was packaged as a sim change pack, had a tag of €2.50, is on the receipt as €0.99 and then the coupon gave the €0.99 discount. Also, it's labelled as a "Pay As You Go" sim pack, so I'm not sure can the same sim be used for bill pay?

I'm sure thats only a matter of phoning them up and changing from PAYG to Billpay.

Tesco supermarkets tend to only have standard mini SIM cards in stock. You need to go to one of the Tesco Mobile stores, such as in the Jervis centre, to get a micro or nano SIM.

You can also call them and they'll post one out to you. It has a new 089 number but when you receive it, call them again and they'll move your number over to it.

Also, if you move from prepay to billpay they tend to post out a new SIM anyway. I don't think they have to but that's what they do.

Someone asked the difference between 48 vs tesco.
Apart from tesco requiring a 12 month contract

    Roaming

    To call UK from Ireland:
48 charge Calls to mobiles and Landlines=50c Texts=25c

    Tesco charge Landlines= 0.01 Mobiles = 0.20 Texts= 0.13

To receive whilst in EU, they both seem to charge the same, although 48 have an add on deal for €3.50 to receive for free including making calls for 15 minutes

On Tesco PAYG, did I see if you buy a 5gb addon, it lasts until you use 5gb? Or does it only last a month and then you have to pay again for another 5gb?

IIRC it only lasts the month - the same as your mins and/or texts.
