I get rejected when I try for the 1 year €10 one. I wonder which criteria affect it:
We are unable to offer you this plan at this time, please choose another great value plan from the following

The Tesco one includes landlines as "any network" though rather than putting a limit on it doesn't it?

    But that costs €15.

The Tesco plan is the best plan for €15, but the 48months Guide plan above is the best plan for €10

Am I reading this wrong so? The top line of the 12 month sim only plan seems to be €10 per month.

No, you are reading it wrong, BK. The sim-only 12 month contract from Tesco has 300 mins,300 texts & 1gb of data. The 300 mins are to any ROI number.

But you have to sign up by 3rd Nov.

not to mention 48months have no contract whatsoever

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,293 ✭✭✭MayoForSam

+1 for the €10 per month, 12-month contract, I'm currently paying Meteor €20 per month for a similar deal so I'll be switching. I want to stick with the O2 network as that's the best coverage where I'll be using.

48months no good me as I'm way beyond that age category.

Thanks for the heads up OP just switched there to there 12 month sim only for 10 euro a month.

Recently left meteor 20pm 30 day contract to go to 48. No problems. Just give them a ring and email your notice of cancellation. If you want your number switched it's best to tell them you want to move to meteor pre pay. Once your switched to pre pay after 30 days notice order your 48 months sim with a DOB that fits the requirements and switch your number.

I'm currently with 48, have been for around 5-6 months and in general they are absolutely fine however recently there have been two outages which were very annoying and left 48 customers without ability to make or receive calls for up to 24 hours. This is left me toying with the idea of moving to Tesco Mobile.

It's extra irritating because there is no customer service to contact in the event of an outage. You just have to send them a facebook comment and cross your fingers it'll be fixed soon. Another factor encouraging me to move to Tesco Mobile as they have customer care line open 8am-8pm every day.

Other than that their coverage is great (piggyback on o2 network), 3G is good, and let's face it the deals are fantastic value. I hear Tesco Mobile's 3G speeds leave a lot to be desired though...

    Just my two cents.

Tesco piggyback on 02 the same as 48 do so if one had an outage it's quite likely the other will to so I don't think you've much to be gained by switching.

Oh I thought that too but both times 48 had their outages, both o2 and Tesco Mobile were absolutely fine (mates are with them), which made zero sense to me.

Tesco have had some outages though, there was threads about one of them about 2-3 weeks ago where there was an outage for hours . have a look back in the talk to Tesco Mobile forum

Oh jeepers, maybe it was only in some parts?

Well that changes my dilemma a bit. The only thing Tesco Mobile have going for them then is the customer service so. Do you know much about their 3G speeds TheTechGuy??

I know it's was limited to 2mb about 6 months ago but it's was to be increased in the future. I'm not with them so I don't know if it has been increased yet. Pretty sure it was a total outage, something to do with water coming in through a roof into some server building or something along those lines.

Tesco are said to be updating and increasing their speeds over the coming months, before January I believe, that'll have no limit and cap on speeds. You can expect the same service that you'll get on the 'real' network.

Possibly something to do with the possible O2 & Three merger? Where I live I only have Meteor and Three coverage in 3G so I am limited to Meteor, e-mobile and Three and I am currently on Meteor for €20 a month for 200mins, 200texts and 1GB but would switch to one of these lower priced deals if I could still have 3G coverage at home.

When I said Tesco had the best €15 plan, I meant their pay as you go plan, not contract.

Frankly I can't understand why anyone would go contract, when much better value for money pay as you go plans exist, which allow you the flexibily to move at any time!

With Tesco Pay As You Go, if you register your club card and top-up by €15 per month, you get:
    - Unlimited calls to any mobile and landline.

You can then use the €15 to add:
    - Unlimited texts to any mobile for €10
    - 1GB of Data for €5

48months have the best €10 plan and their €20 plan is very good too.

Tesco and 48months not only both use the o2 network, but they both seem to be owned and run by the same company. Which means they both use the same equipment.

So that means they both suffered the same two outages a few weeks ago.
They both are currently limited to 2mb/s
They both are expecting to upgrade to 21mb/s in November.

To get a subsidised phone. I'm moving providers soon but my Galaxy S1 is really putting up a struggle to keep going these days, plus I want a shiny new phone, and it looks like going contract is the best way to get one. I'm paranoid enough to think everyone selling a phone on Adverts and the likes are out to scam me.

I'm with Meteor for the past year paying €15 rolling montly contract but this has gone up to €20 so I'm looking to change. I want to remain within the O2 network as that has the best coverage for me out in the sticks.

Would I better off going for the €10 Tesco or 48months monthly contract or PAYG Tesco for €15 (including Clubcard points)? To be honest, I only use my phone intermittently, maybe 60 minutes of talk time per month and 100 texts per month but I need at least 1GB data as well.

I went contract earlier this year. I'm paying €25 per month over 18 months, so total contract payment €450 plus I paid €45 for a phone

    So I'm paying €495 all-in. And Meteor gave me a €500 phone

So basically I paid for a phone, but got 18 months calls, txts and data for free :)

    That's why I went contract...

Hey mate, if you do not add the unlimited texts for €10 then how many texts do you get for free or do you get any at all when you top up by €15?

    Cheers,

If you take the free mins only, then any texts you send will cost 13c each. Similarly if you go for free texts only, then any calls will cost 25c per min.

It's worth pointing out though that TM have included webtexts (200 national, 50 international) in their app so paying for texts is avoidable

Great, that makes sense and I am on a PC most days as well as having access to be able to send texts using the data allowance from the phone itself using their app or Cabbage.

I assume any texts sent outside this using the inbuilt SMS app will come out of the €15\€20 that is in my account from when I topped up!?

It sounds like the 48months €10 plan would be best for you., gives you:

    - 300 minutes to any network
    - Unlimited texts any network
    - 1GB of data

If you do decide to sign up with them, PM me and I'll send you a link that you can order a SIM card for them and get €5 off your first month (€10 off if you go with the €20 plan).

As for those saying they are getting a free phone as part of a contract, then fair enough, that is probably the only valid reason to be on a contract. However I would always look at the total cost of a contract + subsidised phone, versus buying the phone unlocked full price. Often it can be cheaper to buy the phone full price up front (and gives you greater flexibility).

No, not due to that. Despite the sale being 'official', it is not approved until the regulator and competition authority have their say, so they'll be separate for at least a year or so. Both networks are acting as normal, separately, and will be for some time, so new and existing contracts and services will be operating as normal.

Tesco are using an MVNO enabler, called Liffey Telecom (yet are registered for Data under Tesco Mobile Ireland, Limited.), operated by GiffGaff Limited., owned by Telefonica UK, which owns O2 Ireland at present. 48 is wholly owned, only directly, by Telefonica O2, and is seen as an experiment, in a sense.

You are correct, though 48months also use Liffey Telecom as their "enabler" and are thus on the same "network" and equipment as Tesco Mobile. Though you are correct that TM is actually owned by Tesco Ireland, rather then Telefonica, or so it would seem.

    Fraud?!!

What 48months are doing is very likely illegal under EU age discrimination laws.

That is why I haven't heard a single case of them actually stopping anyone from joining the service. It is a marketing segmentation ploy, not a real restriction.

You don't need to actually be that age to join 48. Just say you're 18 when your setting up your account. My dad is with 48 and he's in his 50's! Also it works off the O2 network so it could suit you.
