    Mitsubishi Galant, €450
NCT until 3/14 and a day or two of tax remaining. Brilliant value for money, send it through the test next March and if it fails you could get close to what you originally paid for it back without NCT.

    Ford focus estate, €1250
NCT until 1/15 Loads of NCT, probably bag it for a grand.

Cheap considering the tax on it
Makes it a 450 euro car

NCT until 9/14 and tax until 12/13. Ad and seller seem honest and I'd imagine the car is to.

    What mpg would they give?

Mid to late 20s at a guess. Would really depend on how and where it's driven too.

Hit 8l/100km (35 mpg) on a long motorway run (2000km return) at an average speed of 115 km/h in one of these. 9.8 l/100 (28mpg) in town and on city motorways/dual carraigeways over 4 days.

Very very comfortable, very smooth gearbox, very well built inside, much better IMO than Merc or Audi gearboxes of the same years (I've no experience with BMW's of that era).

I have an '01 9-3 with an automatic and it's a dream to drive. I'd buy that at the drop of a hat if I was in the market for one, admittedly I prefer the estate though, has nice wheels too. Ad seems to be honest enough. worth a look anyway.

Depending on what is reason, many things can put EML on, many of them not significant too.

I think that car bangernomincs not fixuper.

After the previous 'discussion' on this matter a while back, I think its best we just say its a fixerupper and not bangernomics.

Honest John slags it to high heaven. Car in ad is a Vauxhall, so an import. Model ended production in UK in 2003. A guzzler on petrol too apparently.

Still, for someone who wants a capable 4X4 and doesn't mind the big tax, it could be haggled down to a 'good buy'.

Anyway, did a DD search for Frontera max €2k and came across this 2001 Volvo C70 convertible with 'recent NCT' asking €1495 or willing to swap for a SWB Frontera!

So had my 9-5 for the last year and a bit I owned it :)

Intermittent fault, proper diagnostics outfit (Bosch centre) said it was some kind of issue with the ignition circuit. I completely ignored it. I could reset it with my phone (after pluggin in a €15 bluetooth OBD2 dongle) while driving :D

First time it happened was 5 minutes before I brought the car for the NCT. I was brickin' it because I didn't know the engine management light is not an NCT fail :o

How long is a piece of string? I had a manual one and in stop start local short trips with a cold engine you'd get about 15MPG. On a long trip with the car fully loaded with 5 people in it, I got 40MPG with a light foot. The automatic one will be a bit worse.

It's a heavy large 2l petrol car. They're all pretty much the same tbh ;)

I know you :D 'ed, but that would be offence under some Act or other unless you had some voice command thingy going...

FFS, under whatever Act that is in force, you can be done for using a mobile phone if the said phone is in contact with any part of your body. I think the parliamentary draughtsperson was trying to close off the possible defence of no-hands holding the phone between your ear and shoulder. Stop with the vibration alert jokes already! :P

    1994 Toyota Celica, NCT 7/14, tax 11/13 €650
Not the most desirable model being an automatic, but if the car checks out okay then it'd be a good buy. These are beginning to thin out now, this one is approaching 20.

looks like a 3s-fe (economy based engine) with the auto box certainly isn't too desirable.

650 though, if you got €100 off the asking and spent it on some second hand toyota alloys, you could do a whole lot worse than that car.

    2000 Nissan Micra, NCT 10/14, tax 11/13, €875
This seems like a good deal. I'd bet the owner is a dealer/trader though.

Yeah, two ads, same phone no. One from Luke, the other from Matthew. Probably uses Mark and John as well... :)

Go on, ring him up using the following script:

    You: "Thomas!"

Him: (thinking on his feet, because he hasn't been Thomas for a couple of weeks) "Sorry, I think you must have the wrong numb..."

    You: (deeper voice) "Thomas!"

Him: "Sorry, pal, you must ha..."

You: "Thomas, do you not know who I am?"

Him: "No, as I said -"

You: (really deep voice now) "Oh, Thomas! Dost thou want to put thy finger in my wound?"

    Him: "What?"

You: "Sin no more, Thomas!" (hang up immediately).

    Him: "Jebus!"

[ Call back after two minutes ]

    You: "You called me, Thomas?"

After this, ad lib for effect.

One good thing about the 3S-FE engine is that is non-interference, so no bad news after the timing belt fails.

Could you imagine how confused someone would be after getting that call at 4 in the morning?

Not the most exciting or desirable car, but easily one of the most reliable and economic ones to run. Buy for €750-800, if it goes through the NCT in 12 months then you get your money back, if not, you'll still get €500 as they are very sought after. Cheap tax and insurance too.

Something a bit bigger here, economical and reliable, NCT till 04/14, might be a bit pricey at €1500 but worth a look. They look good in white too.

That review is for the older 2.8 diesel and 2.2 and 2.3 petrol years 1991 - 2003
Year of one I posted is 2004, would this be a newer model ?
