Very tempted to go water cooling myself (for the first time) for my next build. Talk me out of it please lads - I really can't justify it at all, but still want to do it.

The issue with it is, it's something you can tinker with and improve on almost forever. If you get into it and enjoy extreme overclocks it can be stupidly expensive.

It's also somewhat more hassle than air cooling maintenance wise.

Not that I haven't mapped out several potential loops for my current machine many times though!! :P

Antec 920 Kulher just died: I am not impressed with water cooling atm :-)

Had moved the radiator from the top 120mm mount in my case to mount it on the bottom of the case over the 180mm intake.
(did it to see if I could reduce the amount of vibration the kuhler was causing...) Granted the brackets were for a dual radiator mounting and I MAY have used two screws and cable ties to hold it in place, but it was looking pretty good...

Powered on and now the pump is making a racket and not working. Moved it back to its original position: same thing. Proper fcuked....

Was going to fit a stock Intel but I will have to strip the case to get the bracket off the back of the motherboard
Fcuked if I am doing that now, will wait till I get something new in the post.

PC now abandoned in the corner and my AMD A10 m-itx box is now going instead on the desk.

Looks like I am going back to air cooling....
Any recommendations for a an aircooled cpu cooler socket 1155?

Oh I know - I'm not an extreme overclocker/bencher at all, so decent air cooling would be more than adequate for me and at only a fraction the cost of a good loop. But I'm also one of those guys for whom geekdom doesn't come naturally (in other words, I'm thick :D ), so I like to get hands on and try most things once, learning as I go. And as already admitted, there could be something of a midlife crisis going on too!

In other news, as expected, Nvidia are dropping the prices of the 780s and 770s ahead of the 780Ti launch (and to be more competitive with the new Radeons no doubt). Price drops should come into effect this week, but some retailers are already discounting cards (OcUK and Scan e.g.).

The reason that happened is most-likely because the radiator was moved below the pump. If you have a look in the instructions, it's in there somewhere as a warning. The loops are never filled completely full with fluid, so if you have it in such a way that the pump is at the top, it can end up running dry, which can kill it inside a few seconds if you're particularly unlucky. That "racket" it was making was it dying.

Saw that too. I'm seeing anywhere from $500-530 for the reference one, which hopefully means we should see prices around the €450-500 mark, which would be awesome (and exactly what should have been there from the beginning)

Makes me sort of regret deciding to sell my desktop...

$499 is what nvidia said what that translates to over here who knows

The also have the deal of 3 games plus a $100 of shield which is great value f you want a shield

Scan are/were selling 780s in rigs for £399 (adding a second 780) which means it will be a definite buy for me this month

Has anyone played the Witcher 2 recently? I really loved the world but the combat system pissed me right off. I heard they patched it massively.

3's coming out fairly soon and sounds very interesting so I wanted to maybe have a crack at 1 and 2 beforehand.

Just finished Shadow Warrior on Insane in 2 nights, the game is so awesome, brings back memories of how epic old school games were with crazy amounts of blood, unreal/painkiller style weapons and good looking fantasy scenery. Haven't had so much fun in a long time due to current generation generic war FPS taking over the market that my friends are playing. I see them as expensive benchmarking tools that are afraid to be innovative. Let's see how long it takes till first fanboy attacks me :)

Anyway, they should be making more of these games. Sword fight is very unique, never experienced anything like that before, elder scrolls needs these melee mechanics so bad... here's a little gameplay I recorded (contains spoilers)

Have you played Chivalry? If you want a game with great melee mechanics you should give it a go.

Neither do I, I was looking at an R9 280x up until now, although it does look like they have gotten cheaper.

ive become far too much of a graphics snob lately. i used to be able to quite prices for all different tiers of GPU's now i only pay attention to the flagships:o

So since the 780 is now £50 more than the PS4 consider my pre order canceled lol

Im probably going to end up buying a 4K monitor next year at the rate im going:o

I must give Shadow Warrior a go. Chivalry really is incredible fun though. Not a game I play often, but every now and again an hour or so, always end up laughing at some of the stuff you see. People dismiss it as some sort of button bashing exercise, but it takes quite a lot of skill (and a lot of luck too, in the bigger battles). I've just stood and watched instances where one guy fights 4 or 5 enemies at once and and kills them all effortlessly.

The dlc coming out for chivalry looks pretty good.

Aye it looks good. They have really nailed first person melee combat in it though. Elder scrolls take note.
