Thanks for that! My last proper relationship was with an Asian womaand always knew there had to be a saying.

Thing is though with back living in Ireland and if I go out with just a one night stand in mind chance are she'll be white, simply because its numbers and slightly easier.

Zero interest in a relationship these days but another nice Korean or Japaneese woman could easily twist my arm!

    Am I racist?!

This is a question asked on a dating website I signed up to. And out of all the profiles I've viewed (a lot), 99% of the women say yes.

Tbh I find this very surprising. Is this just an Irish thing? I can't imagine such a high percentage of American women saying yes. Is this more cultural, rather than race?

I can't say how many men say yes, I don't look at those profiles. :)

Edit: Last word in title should be background.

It's just a question to whittle down your particular tastes is all, the same way one of the very first questions on it is used to whittle down which age bracket you're interested in. Nobody would suggest you were ageist if you were a 25 year old not interested in meeting sexagenarians! :D

They should just re-phrase that question:

"Are you a racist"? And if anybody answers "yes" to that, match them up with a troll. An actual troll. I mean a mountain-dwelling mouth-breathing mythical giant. That'll learn 'em.

Most African Americans in America marry other African Americans. Is that racist? No it's just they probably share a similar culture, back ground and religion.

I found most Irish people seriously struggle to live with other Europeans never mind some of a direct race/culture.

Hm. Can't say I have had that problem myself. I moved to Ireland in 1995. In those 18 years I have experienced maybe ONE incident in which somebody referred to me being a foreigner, and that was in a fit of road rage, so I don't think that that would count as "racist" or "xenophobic". I find the Irish more open-minded toward foreigners than the supposedly "liberal" Dutch people in my own home country.

This is just silly. It's not racist to ask is it important to a person that the site narrows down as much as possible their ideal target partner that they'd like to date. Some people will prefer to date people they have more in common with, some people will be open to chance, taking a risk, maybe they might meet someone they have nothing in common with but they're open to new experiences. Some people just don't have time for that and would rather narrow down their options to people they know they'll have more chance of being attracted to.

Me? A pulse and a pair of tits, we'll get along just fine :D

Is it sexist to say I'm not open to dating men? :pac:

Why would you be a racist because you're not attracted to certain people? I find some men of a certain skin colour pull the race card on a night out, I've had it happen twice. Something along the lines of, "can I have your number" "no, sorry", which would be met with a suggestion of me being racist. People can think what they like tbh but personally ill never be under accompliment to date anyone I'm not attracted to, just because its the PC thing to do.

I find some black women very attractive. Also some Indian women are stunning.
I'll date a person of any race, but i do have a preference for women with dark skin and yummy brown eyes- though many of these women would be classed as being from the same race, this is just my personal preference. I pity the person who might find a woman of a different race to be very attractive, but because of his/her views on race won't do anything about it.

In that case wouldn't it suffice to ask whether you'd prefer it if people were physically similar to yourself? Why focus on "skin colour" which is such a minor physical attribute? And I'm not buying the concept of "race" at all. There is ONE race: the human race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,324 ✭✭✭BillyMitchel

Who ever started this thread should sign up to that really big racist right wing scum site (forget the name) and ask the same question! Their responses to mixed race relationships is so bad it's funny.

It's not just skin colour. Different entinicities have different features, which to me would also be off putting. Also, I'd find someone that was hard to understand (broken English or a strong Irish accent I couldn't really understand clearly, it doesn't matter) absolutely head wrecking to listen to day in day out.

I do agree with an above poster that some Indian women are absolutely stunning, and if I were a man tbh I'd probably be more into them than an Irish girl, however I'm not a lesbian so it doesn't apply to me.

It's nothing to do with being a racist...
It's asking what do you prefer...
That's a big difference to "do you hate any race"

For example you may like redheads. That doesn't mean you hate blondes

I like my women like a like my coffee....sweet and weak.

I like my women like I like my milk....a mistake

It's not just skin colour. Different entinicities have different features, ....

Indeed - but those are features that people can, to some extend, choose to possess. I was born in The Netherlands to Dutch/Italian parents. I could have chosen to adopt a very stereotypically Dutch personality - whatever that is - or Italian, or "cosmopolitan", or whatever else. I can decide to rigorously conform to some religious or cultural makeup I decide is important to me, or to "do as the Romans do" and blend in seamlessly. And it's OK for people to like or dislike me based on the choices I make. No problem with that. But a person's skin colour? That's just idiotic.

Certainly. But you'd be quite the moron if you decided you wouldn't even consider dating a man or woman for no other reason than that their hair is yellow.

No it isn't. People are into different things, and find different things attractive. I personally have yet to meet a black man I find attractive, for example. I certainly wouldn't want someone to date me when they didn't find me attractive, or because they felt compelled to date me just because I was different.

I'm pretty sure men would be the same, no?

What about Kanye West? He hates white women, does anyone give a crap? Maybe Taylor swift, but I doubt anyone else does.

Everyone answers no to this question, unless they want to face the morality bastille.

Let me tell you, white caucasians are a minority on this planet. Yet white caucasians make up the extreme supermajority of professional models. At least, in the west. And that is probably important.

In the west, even the supermodels of colour are tall, fine boned, and have tend to have facial and skeletal features that resemble the caucasian woman.

Why do you think local model agencies do this? Is it because Caucasian women, who buy these designers' products, can relate more to Elle McPherson or Heidi Klum, more than they could relate to some Indian or Chinese girl who has has never been the most beautiful? Come on, nobody seriously believes that.

Whether model agencies respond to the popular perception of beauty, or whether they frame it, these women are chosen because they are perceived to represent beauty, related to which, is sexual attraction. I think this is an uncomfortable truth most of us would rather not accept, and I include myself.

Ehh, skin colour is no "minor physical attribute", given that it covers 100% of the body. An absolutely ridiculous assertion, and just because YOU don't buy the concept of race, doesn't mean it's something the rest of the population should blithely ignore.

The question in the OP asks about racial background, so even if we were, as you put it to ignore a person's skin color, there's no disguising their ethnic or cultural background that forms their thought processes, traditions and cultural norms.

Instead of ignoring all these things and trying to make out "the human race" as you put it, is one big, bland entity, should we not encourage people to celebrate difference and enjoy diversity for what it is, when we have so much we can learn from each other? That's a more realistic point of view than your "one race for all" nonsense, because that just isn't reality.

No, I wouldn't strongly prefer to go out with someone of my own skin colour / racial ba.

I'd find it depressing if someone said yes to that. It'd make me see them as boring, dull, closed-minded. And although they probably don't mean to be, it'd make me think that deep down they're probably racist without really realising it or wanting to acknowledge it.

I'm not saying I'm right, but that's just how I'd feel about anyone who said yes to that question.

    Each to their own................
