    Any word on Donie Buckley?:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭sayno

Story is that Buckley stays and Nallen is gone. I think

It sounds like the money spent will be less next year something Horan won't be pleased with. After reaching back to back AI finals anything less than another final will probably be seen as failure so the pressure/expectations on Horan and the team to deliver will be huge next year.

    I dunno

Certainly not by me and not by the majority of the Mayo public I'd hope. These lads have given/continue to give everything to the Mayo cause, the sacrifices they make for amateur players are insane

Whatever happens I'm sure they'll give it their best shot, sure that's all you can ask

    26/6/2010 just remember that date!

Would have to agree with that. While I think there's a general air of confidence within the county, I think a lot of the rest of the country are expecting Mayo to not be able to come back the 3rd year in a row. So I think a semi final loss (unless it was a big upset) would be greeted with a "Well it's disappointing but I suppose it was hard to expect them to lift themselves for the 3rd year in a row".

Also, is that the date we lost to Longford...? What a horrible, horrible day!

I think you are way off the mark there, if fact you haven’t a clue what you are on about to be honest

Failing to make the AL Final for the third year in a row would not be classed as a failure

As I have said many times on this thread it's going to be a huge ask mentally and physically to get this squad to reproduce what they have done for the past few years after the last two disappointments

I for one am not going to criticise them if they fail to make the 2014 Final, in fact I'd be surprised if they did.

Only have the read the view of some Mayo supporters on how restless they have become and the Connacht Telegraph has put the final loss at Horans door what will they be like if Mayo don't reach the AI final next year?

2010 and now is like light years away for a start very little money was spent back then and as result the team weren't even fit to compete.

Tod you completely missed the point of my post.

I was talking about the expectations/pressure which will probably be higher than ever before. I agree it will be huge ask both mentally and physically however that still won't stop others from criticising. TBH James Horan should be given the job for as long as he likes but after some of the rubbish that was written about him this year you couldn't blame him if he decides to walk away after next years championship.

I think it was the case that O'Mahoney really took his eye off the ball. We had the players to compete and an experienced manager but it seemed like the team was thrown together at times. As Gerry pointed out the defeat to Longford was low, comparing that game to say the Donegal game this season shows we've come a long way.

Regarding Horan staying on, I'm still sick after losing another final but there's no doubt Horan is the man for the job. It was always a case of did he want it.

Losing an All-Ireland is a real downer in particular that is unique enough. We have to wait six months for another competitive game and the way that the final hype just dies down. All you can look back on is the final. It's bad for us but I can only imagine how the team feels losing twice in a row now. This is the year that makes or breaks us under Horan, nobody can expect us to win All-Ireland but you can be optimistic that this team will set themselves up to go for it.

All the right noises coming from management and the County Board, lets hope the players follow suit with the right attitude and commitment.

Wonder what things are they going to do to reduce costs? Less gear, physio once a week at most, players only to come down from Dublin once every two weeks. Being a bit silly with some of those suggestions but this is the Mayo county board and they ain't the best when it comes to dealing with money as can be seen from the McHale Park episode.

Don't worry about "Chip-on-Shoulder"graph, AH is worse that The Sun at this stage. If we worry or even care what the local rags say then we are worse than the English soccer team.

DELIGHTED he is staying on, going to be really interesting to see who he brings in. Any ideas on who it could be? Hardly McStay or McHale, presume that would not be what they would want?

If they don't reach the AI final I don't see it as a failure or an issue, I think it might be no harm, but listening to the talk of the players and now the manager thats there end goal for 2014.

Thanks God I got the season ticket.. :D

Also the rift between Horan, Feeney and Freeman has been sorted.

A player's meeting took place last week and this was all covered, it seems that Horan will be manager next year

Ye heard it here first lads ;)

No dates yet so ? Missed the semi last year as we were away on holidays. Trying to avoid the same happening again

I don't think dates confirmed yet. Only the draw made.

Provisional dates are usually released mid November and then the master fixtures list is published mid December.

Barry Moran is lording it out there. What a player. As good and all as the O'Sheas are Barry is our best all round mid for me. Some of the points he gets are outstanding

Castlebar look a very good team to me. They could run away with this in the second half

Breaffy have the wind to their back now though! A small bit more momentum could see them getting a few handy scores!

Well poor aul second half really but I'd put that down to conditions- brutal day for football

Castlebar were the much better outfit tbf, their intensity and support running is brilliant. Shooting in the second half was sub par but again the conditions really didn't help. They move the ball up the field at such speed and will be a handful for anyone. They could take beating

Barry absolutely lorded mid and kicked two inspirational points. Aidan was poor, Seamie not much better though he had a decent enough first half.

Irwin looks a class prospect though, hoping he'll get league gametime, looks a classy player and an option for a left footed free taker

Not a great game played in poor conditions but Castlebar deserved their win.

Shedloads of potential there right enough.

He needs to be put on the senior weights program if he's not on it already.

Have all the photos from the match today uploaded to my online album now. Brutal day for football.

Yeah glad I seated myself at the back of the stand.:DDecent game of football considering the awful weather conditions.Watched it back on TG4.Barry Moran was immense,he was'nt far behind Tom King for MOTM.I suppose in a low scoring game King's frees and scores from play swung the vote in spite a few poor wides. Can't believe he played for Mervue Friday night.
The O Sheas put in a decent hour,Seamus was especially good in the first half.Mitchels were good value for the win,Breaffy simply did'nt have the forwards. It was a pity Breaffy did'nt play the long ball quicker and on a more frequent basis in the second half although their full forward was dropping very deep.
Mitchels are certainly capable of giving Corofin or St. Brigid's a competitive game.James Horan should definitely take a look at young Liam Irwin, serious potential and even at this stage he has a physical presence, ditto Danny Kirby.

He will be ready sooner than rest of minor team He's well built as is By Spring time could well shade some of our forwards in physicality Left sided freetaking will be useful n looks like can score from play Intelligent football brain for only 18

I'm still warming up! Back of the stand was bad God knows what the front was like! :)

Castlebar deserved their win, weather was awful.
B Moran played well, Seamie had a great first half and then Kirby seemed to just stop his runs. AOS was poor enough for most of the game. Richie was efficent, T Cunniffe was quite enough stopping Durcan.
Irwin was v good for a young lad, thought Tom King was good but can't see him leaving Mervue, Neil Douglas caused a lot of problems.

Neil Douglas' movement is very impressive. Great ball winner, very effective in roving role.

FB O'Reilly looks a very intelligent footballer. It's a very good team I can't believe they're only winning now
