Not a dicky bird.Hopefully it confirms all the speculation that he's staying put.

Hope so, nothing official anywhere, but has to be a decision this week I suspect.

Wonder might they change the Kildare game to the 1st Feb and do a double header in Croker with the Dublin/Kerry game? Be some way to kick off the league games in style. Would make a lot of sense from a marketing point of view. People always giving out that the GAA don't do enough for the leagues.

Wonder is that a typo error as doesn't make sense we are playing Kerry at home and Dublin away again in 2014. Normally every other year

The Ballintubber man met last night with the principal officers of the Mayo GAA County Board to discuss his plans for the future.

The fact that he is coming back next week means that Horan is waiting. If horan wanted out, he would have knocked it on the head this week. I think this statement says they have things to sort out but business as usual and nothing to be alarmed about.

Seems like Horan is waiting for something to happen or possibly someone to commit or the backroom team before he gives a firm yes.

It appears not. That said, it appears the fixtures are only proposed at this stage. Whether or not that means a change in home/away fixtures remains to be seen. If I recall correctly, we had 4 home games in the league this year, so maybe it's to even that out with 4 away games next year?

    It's a bit F**ked up
Once again Dublin have 4 home games
And once again Kerry have only 3 home games

    That cannot be correct

The league schedules are on two years cycles. 2012 & 2013 was one cycle, with counties having 4 home games one year, and three home games the next, or vice versa.

2014 & 2015 will kick off another stand alone, two year cycle. So the home and away games counties played in 2013 is not taken into consideration when making out the schedule for 2014/15. Given that, it is possible that some counties will have four home games in 2014, even though they had four home games in 2013. However, in 2015 they will have three home games, so over the course of the two year cycle, it all evens itself out re the number of home and away fixtures each county plays.

    Clear as mud, right?

Heard about Aidan Kilcoyne's freak injury, any truth to the rumour that he may never play again? Would be awful if true, what a horrible thing to happen....

Assuming that's correct it's actually a good system when compared to the Six Nations where Ireland have the eternal advantage of playing both of the big two at home every second year.

It is a good system, except for the fact that for a county trying to rebuild, or make a definite effort to get promoted, it can be tough having 4 away one year, and then having another 4 away games the following year. Meanwhile, the a stronger county could very well have 3 home games one year, and then another 3 home games the following year.

Anyway, all that aside, I believe it has to be done on two year cycles. It is mathematically impossible to give all counties a 4/3 split every other year, due to the fact that counties are moving up and down between divisions every year & its not always the same counties playing each other every year. You don't get that in Six Nations rugger, where its the same 6 countries playing each other year in and year out.

    They did indeed.

I don't know if this came across on the telly last night, but the atmosphere at Breffni Park last night was pretty poor for most of the game.

Aidan o Shea is leaning towards lining out for Breaffy on Sunday and opting out of the international rules game on Saturday, totally understandable given the historical context of a county final for his club and the parish rivalry with the Mitchels.

Funny how Michael Murphy could play two games though last weekend. Say Aido is coming under fierce pressure not to play the IRS as it looks like Ireland have it won.

It wouldn't have been that funny if he has been injured, so he took a risk.

AOS is doing the right thing. Going to be a cracking match.

to be honest you cant go out and hope you arent going to get injured every time you play... if someone wanted to play both and is fit enough for it why not? If it was the international rules series of a few years ago i might have a different opinion but they are like practice matches at this stage

murphy not only played the county final sunday he got MOTM, with a goal and a big part in the other 2

If Aidan went playing Sat he'd need his head examined.

He's his clubs best hope of winning a county title, would be madness if he went playing in a match they'll win handy anyway and don't even need him

He's dead right, don't mind Michael Murphy

The county final will be the best in years surely. Cannot wait. Last year was a snoozefest to put it mildly and Castlebar just didn't turn up the two years before that. A cracking final is well overdue and given the teams involved, the local rivalry, the players on show and the fact it's Breaffy's first showpiece should ensure it's a superb occasion

Fair play to TG4 for putting it on live anyway, they won't be disappointed!

I'd love to see Breaffy win given it'd be their first and all that, but I think castlebar have a better chance at winning Connacht (granted whoever wins will be seriously up against it to beat Corofin).

I'd say Castlebar will do it, they've been the best team in the county all year by a mile and have a serious all round side and good options in reserve. However, I think it'll be fierce close. Hoping for a cracker

    Mayo GAA statement in full.

The Mayo County Board Officers earlier tonight held a very productive meeting with James Horan. The Mayo Senior Football Manager has confirmed that he will be staying on as manager and is 100% committed and looking forward to 2014.

Mayo manager James Horan is convinced his team will win an All-Ireland and described the speculation earlier this month on his future as "pure nonsense".
After guiding the county to three Connacht titles and two All-Ireland finals during his three-year term, the Ballintubber native will enter his fourth season at the helm intent on ending Mayo's 63-year wait for Sam Maguire.
"Nothing has changed, the ambition of this squad is to win an All-Ireland and that is an ambition that drives us all," he said.

Both the management team and players already have their heads down and really relishing the challenge ahead and next year cannot come quick enough. The Management Team, Players and County Board will strive to make 2014 every bit as good as 2013 was.

James Horan has confirmed that James Nallen will not be part of next year's back room team. The Crossmolina man, who has been part every Mayo squad since 1995, has had to step back due to family and work commitments.
"It'll be a real shame not to have James with us next year, he's been an inspirational figure to the players and, having played 132 competitive games for Mayo, his experience was something we could always turn to. Replacing a real legend in Mayo football won't be easy. I've met a few people but it's too early to announce anything.”

The Mayo County Board at this stage would like to sincerely thank James Nallen for his commitment over the last 2 years in the management setup, and we look forward to seeing him in the future.
