You need to delete your old disc bought version of Pages. I don't think the App Store is able to over-write it.

I vaguely remember reading something in the last day or so that previous versions of Pages are detected, apparently even trial versions of iWorks are good enough to activate the new free versions.

Anyone having issues opening the iWork apps ? Just hanging for me.

Has anyone managed to send a map/direction to an iOS device yet ... it isn't giving me the option to share?

Yes I did so yesterday morning. Have you checked that your Mac and iPhone are linked to your iCloud account?

    Did it no problem

Anyone backing to a NAS or Time Capsule using Time Machine? I've noticed that the drive no longer shows on the desktop when mounted for a backup.

All other drives, network and otherwise, still do. Default behaviour or something broken?

Would a timemachine backup be enough in a worst case scenario to restore everything on a botched SL to Mavericks?

A disk image might be preferable, but yeah TM would be enough. Just disconnect it before beginning the install.

Thanks. Might do that so, depending on space. Should have plenty if I tidy it up a bit.

FYI I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks without issue. A Time Machine back up was my get out in case there was any issues but it all went smoothly.

I've done a bit of research online, but I always regard Boardsies as being the best people to ask: but do you think I should consider doing a clean install?

Basically, I want a fast, fluid laptop, and I am willing to install applications again, once the computer is launching as 'brand new' and not having stalling, rainbow wheel, and the like, as I get on ML now.

    MacBook Pro, Late-2011 - 4GB ram.

they are ... and have been using pages etc .. across the iPad, iPhone and mac without problem via iCloud!

    Still can't be seen!

That’s not accurate. It’s just an estimate based on energy usage at that moment.

Less than a minute for over 30 mins for me from snow leopard so far.

And suddenly it is done... and it is still setting up your mac....

Just to mention, if you happen to have a trial version of Aperture 3 installed, or you acquire one, the App Store will update it to the full version...:cool:

Can you explain how that works?

I'm downloading the trial now from a third-party CDN and hoping to get the free upgrade.

Do an SMC reset, I'm getting insane battery life my mine,

15 hours on 50% brightness, just browsing with safari, and doing some light work! :D

Install the trial. When you try to run it, it won't. Then go to the App Store and it should say that there is an update for it which is the full version!!

You have to be on Mavericks for it to work...

You legend... I've got myself a copy of Aperture now, and iLife and iWork. However, if you update iWork, you'll be stuck with the odd program, iWeb.

Basically, install it all along, remove it from the computer, and download the packages again, and you'll have removed with useless iWeb.

Worked for me perfectly too, followed this guide

Loving the added multiple display functionality, probably the only thing that will affect me day to day though.

One thing I've noticed though is that my dock seems less responsive. I have it at the bottom of the screen and sometimes it takes a second to pop up when I bring the cursor down. Is this a UX thing like the caps lock key or is anyone else experiencing this? I'm on a 2.7GHz 2013 MBP with 16gb RAM so it can hardly be a performance issue....

    +1

2.7GHz Core i5 with 24GB Ram but it still needs a definite solid flick downwards to get the dock to pop.

I'm not sure if this is necessarily a bad thing yet, it makes the bottom of the screens usable for apps without the dock constantly floating in and out of view. Before this I always deliberately left the bottom inch of the main display empty.

Can't say I see any marginal difference from ML tbh

^^re the slow dock, maybe try this

I don't find the dock slow, it just needs a more definite flick now. Before Mavericks a gentle floating in the direction of the dock would have it popping out.

    What did?

I'm very impressed with the RAM management. It does everything possible to avoid writing to the swap file. I tried to see how much I could throw at it before forcing it to use the swap and this was what I managed:

What's amazing is that I may as well be running nothing because what would normally grind my computer to a halt has had no impact whatsoever. Nothing stutters or freezes, no beachballs and all the programmes and huge files I have open are useable with no slowdowns.

I updated my MBA (2013) this morning, through the app store.
Before I updated there was about 80GB free. Now there is only about 55GB free... The about this mac > storage says that I have 44GB of "other". Is there any way of finding out where the extra 25GB of "other" came from and removing it? Or is it mavericks itself?
