Reddit is too big, I like boards but I would say the through traffic has drooped in the past while the kind of posters has changed in some of the forums which is a pity, The age range is an interesting topic,I get the feeling it is late twenties on wards on every forum except for AF,could be because young people are disengaging form a lot of civic society my youngest daughter does not even bother with Facebook much anymore. I am always surprised at the amount of people with mental health issues boards seems to attract. I like the fact that is is moderated so well although it is slipping on some forums as posts that should not be allowed often stay up for a few hours before they are locked or removed which use to never happen ( only some forums )

Sites like these are a magnet for every sort of nut from racists to those with unusual sexual proclivities so it has to be very well monitored I would say some to the stuff the moderates see would make you hair stand up never underestimate the power of the Internet to attract the weirdos.

Interesting to see BBC and RTE websites around the same,
and say, dailymail.co.uk higher than the Irish Time website.

Not sure how much is down to British people living in Ireland, or how much is down to Irish people more interested in British stuff

Even thought I dislike the dailymail, all of the above is good it means society ( at least those who use the internet ) is not as homogenous as it can appear.

It good that every one is not getting all there news form one source.

The Daily Mail is the most popular news website in the world, the Internet can't get enough if it!

It's not a testament to their hard hitting reporting, more a testament to how hilariously absurd it is.

I noticed conduit search is no.47 with Babylon further down at 72....

seems some people can't be bothered to remove PUPs or double check what they're installing first. My younger cousin got conduit on my laptop while trying to install a "facebook tracker" that unsurprisingly didn't work....

was annoying to remove but not that hard... every now and again it appears on the family desktop aswell...
So theres 7 brazilians in gort then?

Typical Dub. There's a population outside of scumbag central ya know!!;)

And there are roughly 900 Brazilians in Gort according to google.

They must have done something really bad in a past life to get relocated to that poxhole.

Considering we hear alot of peoplen (cough, those who never worked a day in their lives) on the radio going "ah I can't get work, I have sent out 50 cvs this week, and 200 in the last month", surprised to see that the employment / job hunting websites are not even in the top 20

Bad news for a lot of people that isohunt is closing since it's a top 100 file sharing site here. Interesting that piratebay or the piratebay proxy sites don't make the list, guess eircoms block did affect some people or they're just too split to make the list.

Biggest surprise for me was donedeal ahead of ebay although there's a lot of traffic to the british version of the site as well for some reason.

A cursory glance at the list would suggest that many people spend their evenings trying to strangle Prince Rupert.

Well said Padd, i think this is because once people get to express their opinion in a forum they think it adds weight, truth or substance to it, regardless of the idiotic content of it.

Yep jobs.ie and fas.ie 74 and 75 miles, behind porn, brassers, gambling and the Daily bleedin Mail.

when i wasnt working id check jobs.ie/fas.ie maybe once twice a day as they dont update that quickly while boards/youtube etc i would be on 5/6 times a day each.

most of the top sites are multiple times a day sites and the job sites arent that tbh nor are they used by most people in ireland

    Our betters..........
The records show thousands of attempts to access porn, nudity, escort, and gambling websites — among other questionable links — have been made by people working in Leinster House since May.

Among the websites unknown individuals attempted to access were:

    dublinindependentescorts .com

    www.escorts-ireland .com

    www.elitesingles .co.uk

    www.modernandmature .com

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/leinster-house-staff-disciplined-over-illegal-site-log-ons-246878.html

    Sad cunts.

What? No they don't. If boards polls were correct, we'd have a government formed by Shinners. Sinn Fein have nowhere near the support among the general population than they do here.

    Case-in-point
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056564016#

Anyway, its hardly a surprise this place is slipping in relative popularity. With quality posters leaving and the site admins treating the users like children (Dav's post on blasphemy is an excellent example, note to mention Safe-gate) and almost monthly new rules and forbidden topics its not an unexpected result.

My daughter is 19 and couldn't be paid to use boards. I've tried to encourage her to use some forums in the past to seek advice wrt education or similar when issues have cropped up and she tried once but found it such an unpleasant experience that she resolutely refuses to use it again. Lets just say she doesn't have a very high opinion of boards users. ( she is tech savvy and studies/works in the area so it's not from lack of experience)
Boards has a particular demographic but it's very very far from a reflection of real life Ireland than most people here would like to believe.

    But.. according to Alexa.com
    http://www.alexa.com/topsites/countries/IE

    16 Rte
    22 Boards
    23 Adverts
    33 Apple.com
    39 Bing.com
    49 Xhampster

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexa_Internet
Alexa have been around a long time:
As of 2013, Alexa provides traffic data, global rankings and other information on 30 million websites,[3] and its website is visited by over 10 million people monthly

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SimilarWeb
The company was founded in 2009 by Or Offer and Nir Cohen, and is based in Tel Aviv, Israel. In January 2013, SimilarGroup launched SimilarWeb, a web measurement tool which provides online marketing professionals web analytics and competitive intelligence for any site on the internet.[2] SimilarWeb estimates website rankings for over 30,000,000 sites on the internet and draws competitive insights from a proprietary panel that measures the clickstream activity of tens of millions of internet users around the world.[3]

Note: I use Bing because they're the underdog and must admit at last it has improved (better would imply it was good)

Does this rank by the number of times a site was used? I might go on to google or wikipedia several times in a day whereas I'll log in to Boards the once and leave the tab open.

Fairly off the mark in 2011 for the generals as well.

Boards.ie has slipped down the list in the past few years but it's bucking the trend for bulletin board sites. That said, I was talking to a friend of mine who's 23 or so and I mentioned this site to her and her reaction was to the effect that only grannies use this site. I had to correct her inasmuch as the gender description but couldn't argue the point any farther.

Here's the result of the boards.ie poll for the 2011 general election that I posted on FB in advance of the elections:

Boards still has, in comparison to other sites a higher male to female user base. Whereas it's more common to see similar amount of both on most other interactive communities these days, whether it's due to women participating more as a result of fb or other everyday media apps, boards has never really been a female friendly space. It would never be an accurate reflection of a wider society when you consider it's largely a male dominated audience.

(if anything the "over moderation" actively allowed more women to access boards and did make it more user friendly at the time)

I always picture your average Boardsie's as Coldplay fans who are also members of the Green Party. Identity crisis central.

I don't think Boards is over-moderated, its just inconsistently moderated. In some forums, the worst personal insult to a fellow poster can be let off scot free, while in others, the merest hint of insinuation results in red cards being handed out. It comes across as cliquey and agenda driven.

Take the LGBT forum for example. You need special access permission to get in there, presumably in case you offend a gay person. But in the Christianity forum, its a free-for-all. No thread is left un-assailed by trolls, and yet nothing is done about it. Double standards at its finest.

But SOMEBODY in the higher echelons of the mods knows this is going on, and is allowing it. End result? It looks like Boards has a gay friendly, anti-Christian agenda.

I don't think so either, I think boards moderation has come on over the years and for the betterment of the site overall. (and still has a way to go) I do remember the days when it was a free for all more akin to 4chan and youtube comments section and god help you if you were female, your only purpose here was to help make those rape jokes sound better in front of the lads. It seems to be that way for the theist population here these days.
