I had my console pre-order upgraded to the killzone, camera, extra controller mega bundle from gamestop last week. Looking forward to it :) From what I could see in this gamestop they had 10-12 pages of PS4 pre-order names, at a guess there was 50-60 names per sheet

Is that Zavvi price definitly correct or could it possibly be a mistake? The feckers don't even state when you can expect to receive it.

Oh lord! 1200eu for ps4... Who ever buys it is an idiot.

Agreed. BUT there are a lot of idiots out there.

Just home from Smyths in Waterford and the guy in there said they WILL be doing a midnight launch but it will only be for the first 49 people on the list.

Was speaking to the lads in GameStop in Waterford as I was trading in my copy of GTA 5 towards knack they where telling me there opening at midnight and that they don't really won't to for safety as the place will be a target that night for getting your ps4 taking of you by some assholes at knife point or something when your going back to your car

Myself I am getting it online as I can't be assed to line up at midnight to get a ps4 when I can get it sent to me for the same cost

Understandable given how far people will have to walk to their cars, Smyths would not really have that kind of problem, especially where i reckon a lot will wait for the following day to collect anyway.

Either way i am sure they will both have some mind of garda presence, and possibly even some local media so I wouldn't be too worried.

I will be there at midnight and don't expect much sleep.

Are you going by this old article?
peaking with Eurogamer at EGX, Gara said Sony are continuing to work with retailers regarding final allocations.

“Everybody who has pre-ordered to date will definitely get a console prior to Christmas. The cut-off date for that was 5th August” confirmed Gara. “The overall volume point about the UK in those first few weeks of launch is substantial. We will fully catch up demand, probably not before Christmas but relatively quickly thereafter. That’s my current expectation.”

“So, a bit tight for the first few weeks before evening out quite quickly.”

Gara explained that some retailers have already stopped taking pre-orders whilst others are working on a first-come, first-served basis. He also said that unless Sony UK were “pleasantly surprised by a bigger launch day volume than expected” it is unlikely there will be PS4 units on retailers’ shelves.

“But a second batch of stock will be within the week probably, so we’re not talking about droughts for months and months,” he added.

According Michael Pachter on the last episode of Bonus Round, Sony have had over 1.5 million pre-orders at the end of September and reckons they could even double that figure between now and Christmas and they are expecting shortages till early next year due to phenomenal and unprecedented demand.

More stores should of taken notice of what Gara said about pre-orders as well.
“The problem with pre-orders, which is a good problem to have, is that they’re very, very high. Higher than we’ve ever seen in 20 years in this business,” Gara said, speaking to OPM.

Consequentially, Sony has “a situation to manage”.

“As an ex-retailer myself I understand this at least as well as anyone else: we need to help retailers manage the expectations of their customers and not let them down. And that is why we advise them that, from August 5, they should not guarantee anyone they will get their unit on day one.”

Sony wants to make sure no retailer promises what they cannot deliver, and now that is has locked down the console’s launch date, will begin working out precisely how many units each retailer will have.

“We are going to be looking at a sell-out situation and chasing demand, it’s a problem, it’s kind of a good problem to have, but it is a problem and we’re trying to manage that as responsibly as we possibly can,” he concluded.

The PS4 has already attracted over 1 million pre-orders, with demand outpacing that exhibited for the PS2 and PS3. The question of demand outstripping supply is a loaded one, as Sony was not able to supply sufficient PS3 consoles at launch, leading to delays in Europe.

Well I just got a call today to say I'm gonna get one for launch day .Its because a very nice person does not need his launch day console and passed it onto me as he's wrapped up in GTA5 and will not be playing anything else till into the new yr ;) .

There are lots of people on here saying that they have been promised consoles before xmas even though they have ordered in the last week or so, I do not think Amazon are winging it,they know that they will be getting plenty of stock before xmas.

    YEEHAW.

Congrats, glad it worked out for you.

The reality of the supposed cut off date for preorders is that it is based on what the retailer has been promised so if the retailer was promised 40 units and it took them longer to get orders for them they will take orders later than others.

it is also possible that they didn't find out what their allocation would be until later than the traditional gaming shops so they started taking orders later.

Waited until today to actually pre-order one,I'm usually fairly on the ball with these things but just kept promising to go & order one and it took me 'til today to do it.
Only place near me to order one is Xtravision, was told they can't promise anything but to turn up on launch day and see if I can get one-either that or it could be the New Year before I get it.

Still putting the funds together but does anyone know places where I'd get it before Xmas at this stage in the Meath/Dublin area?

highly unlikely you will, Seems like sony are booked out until after christmas
try harvey normans and other electrical shops that are not focused on gaming and you might be in with a chance :)

Saw Amazon had a guarantee before Xmas, think this might be my best option

There's a huge element of hype regarding the PS4 launch. To be honest having to wait for a console may not be all bad.By waiting you can follow the lie of the land from the outset, which games to buy, which to avoid. You will get the true word of actual gamers not those of critics who love the feel of an envelope on their palms. Critics are generally biased one way or the other. By waiting you can make an informed decision.

    Very true
Id prefer getting in a week or 2 before christmas just too see how actual gamers react too the new consoles, then getting one on release day
the amount of delayed games has also shot my hype a little :pac:
Just afraid of their being any faults with either console, theirs normally always something ha hopefully nothing too big

    As of 30th of Sept:
Nobody who's got their name on the list right now is not going to get one in 2013. That's a good start. And there will be more on top of that. People who have not pre-ordered yet still have an opportunity to get one prior to Christmas

I think we should all chill out before making predictions that it'll be Jan or Feb. The truth is no one really knows. Some messages (like the one above) have been very positive. Some from the retailers, less so.

Remember, the retailers go with the worst case scenario so they can cover themselves. If someone guarantees one and you don't get it, it looks pretty bad. On the other hand, if someone can't guarantee it, and manage to pull it out of the bag, that's a much better situation. That's why they try to guarantee the absolute minimum they can. (ie: Amazon cut off date was 6th of August, and people who have ordered in Sept have day one release estimates - and not estimates they automatically assign....they only assigned the estimates later on, when they were sure of stock).

Take all stock predictions with a fist full of salt. Nobody really knows what the story is.

I agree and lets not forget Sony's part in all this, the illusion of scarcity drives up demand and helps to hype up the product giving essentially free advertising so they do their bit to under promise and over deliver. I would still be nervous though if i hadn't pre ordered at this stage.

In fairness if people are only ordering now and do not end up getting one till after Christmas they only have themselves to blame, they have had nearly 9 months to put a pre order in.

Not everyone knew they needed to pre order or that there would be a problem leaving it this late. My nephew wanted an xbox one for christmas and i had to tell my sister to put her name down for one just to be sure, only for that she would have assumed she could have walked in at any time and buy one. Cant really blame people for not knowing.

Just wondering where is the best place to pre order PS4 now lads in terms of value for bundles! Thinking about pre ordering one tomorrow! Cheers!

It happened with the PS2 and the PS3, what is gonna be worse is people ordering them for their kids and the stores not telling them there is a chance they might not have one for Christmas, I remember the strife my mother had getting me a PS2 on launch for Christmas, it was actually the old ESB store she got it in and they were like gold dust.

What stores do you have close to you, it is a real mixed bag, Harvey Norman seem to be the only ones offering bundles to those who had not pre ordered before the 20th of July and a few Xtra Visions, you are leaving it very late, even later now to get a bundle. You should just go with Amazon but at this stage you may not get offered a bundle and will be behind months worth of other people, but at least you can cancel your order at any time.

Can you actually order in store with Argos, you cannot order online with them.

"We can no longer guarantee delivery at launch however we will endeavour to fulfil all orders on a priority basis at the earliest opportunity dependent upon available stock after the launch date from 29th November 2013."
