By any chance an homage to a well known californian beer or just a play on the name?

It's named after 'The Liberties', where the brewery is located in Dublin.

Saw them in the offie the other night, but didn't go for them. I might now if you're saying they're tasty.

Just spent a long weekend in Seattle, its a fantastic city which I'd highly recommend.

Highlights are Elysian's Night Owl Pumpkin Ale and Kama Citra fresh hop ale. Both fantastic the latter being my beer of the trip.

Other highlights where Southern Tiers Pumking, strong, heavy and sweet but delicious, Fairmounts Pale Ale 'randelled' (infused) with fresh Mosaic Hops in the bar (amazing) and a pint of Sierra Nevada Pale which I havn't had in nearly a year. This time of year all the fresh hop beers are out and the Pacific Northwest seems to be the place to be. Every IPA I had was incredibly fresh.

Brought a few beers home to get stuck into, an Elysian Night Owl, Maui Coconut Porter (heard mixed things but always wanted to try it), Dogfish Head Punkin', Big Sky Moose Drool (another that I've wanted to try for quite a while) and a local fresh hop IPA from Old Schoolhouse Brewery.

Is Innis & Gunn stout worth trying? I might see if I can get a bottle or two later on.

Is that the "Irish Whiskey Aged Stout"?

If so, give it a miss.

Do you think ? I'm quite a fan of their stuff and although I haven't had their stout in a while I do recall liking it.

But their blonde is simply gorgeous, my favourite beer for a long time along with TSAs Big Blonde Vivacious Blonde Beer, http://www.tsabrewingco.co.uk/

I think it's alright. Probably the better of I&G, which I'm not a giant fan of, but it's decent.

I've had their toffee infused beer a couple of times and thought it was quite tasty. Scottish company I think.

Yeah they use Tennents brewery to make and bottle the majority of their beer.

    Tennents. Eeeew.
When I was underage, there was one pub that was easy to get cans from, but they only sold cans of Tennents. Horrible sh*t :D

I'm not an Innis & Gunn fan at all, the standard beer is meh, the rum aged one is decent as a desert beer but I couldn't drink more than 1 330ml bottle of it and I found their Irish and Scottish whiskey aged beers were both terrible.

I also have a major hangup about any beer that comes in a clear glass bottle as to me it signifies that the company cares more about image and aesthetics and marketing than it does about producing good beer and delivering it to their customers in best condition possible.

Sweetwater IPA...an above average IPA with a decent head, hoppy with grapefruit tang & a great finish

    You might enjoy this.
Why do you guys use clear glass bottles? Are you not worried about light damage?

That article really just reinforces my opinion.

They think that any damage that may occur is worth it because "the different colors of the different beers in the Innis & Gunn range appeal to consumers".

Some bottles of beer will sit on shelves for up to a month (depending on the offie/pub) so it really doesn't wash with me.

I also would like the answer to this question.

Drank a fair bit of it while in North Georgia, decent beer.

That's not really an answer at all. Innis and Gunn obviously won't change in the glass because it's already been lightstruck. And the low IBU of 18 doesn't matter as it's still enough to cause a skunky flavour. Try a clear bottle of low IBU lager and you'll still notice it. And lastly, even if low IBU beer is grand in clear bottles why is their pale ale in a clear bottle? It surely has a much higher IBU.
our brewer, Dougal Sharp, prefers to do so because he believes that the different colors of the different beers in the Innis & Gunn range appeal to consumers and provide some clear message about the different tastes of each beer.

Dougal Sharp should read "our marketing department".

Aye, I ended up in one of their bars a few times and always head to their bar in ATL airport when I'm flying through.

Just tried my luck in the offie, came home with some 8 degrees Amber Ella, which I thought was absolutely delicious, malty, but hoppy at the same time, strong but seriously drinkable.

Also had a brewdog electric India, completely bizarre Belgian/ipa cross, was a weird blend but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Also got some brewdog jackhammer, very good approximation of a west coast ipa.

At the weekend I had some thorn bridge stuff, some buried at sea and a brewdog imperial pilsner, all of which were divine.

I'm lucky to live in stoneybatter, drinkstore have 700 beers according to the owner;)

Popped into JW Sweetmans for a pint of their porter. I like all their own brews and at 4 euro a pop it's great value.

    No, no it's not.

    It's a horrendously unbalanced beer.

Probably the most unbalanced beer I've ever drank.

It's not a beer that was brewed to be drinkable, it was brewed to be a gimmick.

Just wondering can anyone tell me what is the best off licence in around the city centre please ? I want to try and find some more of the founders range but I live out in Meath so the pickings are slim.

Stone IPA, I thought it was nice but was expecting more. I got more of a "pure" hoppy taste of it rather than citrus for example.
I hope to try Sierra Nevada's Narwhal Imperial Stout soon, has anyone had it.
