You were offended by the word f*ck?? Get a grip ffs.

Ive got the right to be offended if I want. You obviously think youre smart by adding your little FFS. I cant tell you what I think of you because it would breach the rules.

The fact is there is no need to be swearing in this thread, its about cars. Kids etc also have access to it, so it should be prevented. END.

Been keeping an eye on this thread. You lovely gentlemen (ladies... unlikely) may be able to give me your opinions. I'm changing jobs, going from a company car to a car allowance.

I'll get €8500 a year plus a fuel card to cover all fuel costs. Have 2 small kids and a wife that can fill a Passat CC boot to the brim for a 24 hour stay away from home.

I'm partial to a barge and like my cars executive as [The swear filter has a purpose]k.

To me the fact that MPG is of no consideration, the ridiculous amount of bargains out there and my space requirements coupled with the allowance which should easily cover the big tax and insurance and possible expensive parts, a luxobarge looks, as hard as it is to believe, like a "sensible" option.

I may be kidding myself but what do ye think?

By way of contribution... executive presidential as fuck

Kev, they are fabulous cars. Fast for a barge (0-60 in 5.9), extremely comfortable, so many extras, and totally reliable.

I have one myself for over 18 months now (running on LPG for 11 of those) and I absolutely love it. The only thing I'd change it for is a newer shape S500 which I'm thinking of for the new year.

Swearing edited (you missed one Limerick Man :)) I respect your right to be offended although it must be excruciatingly tiring having it happen so easily.

It's a straight up cash car allowance subject to PAYE at the higher rate. I'm currently on the company car/BIK at OMV setup. It has it's advantages, mainly to do with risk. I've been in jobs with car's for a decade now and I've had both. I put my own car with car allowance in a ditch thanks to a sudden cessation in gritting on an icy motorway. Had I had company car I would have made a phone call and picked up a replacement car in the morning, that experience swayed my down the company car route but it's the only accident I've ever had and I've been paying through the nose on BIK since. I don't do massive mileage and won't in the new job.

So my basic sum will be car allowance minus loan repayment (I may pay cash though) minus insurance minus tax and whatever is left should hopefully go into some kind of "replace the gold plating on my luxo-grill" fund.

Preliminary calculations indicate this to be MORE economical than spending a larger up front sum on purchasing a lower tax standard saloon. Especially considering my savings are depleted currently (thanks Germany!) so interest on a loan would be a factor.

Am I looking at this through the eyes of an excited naive child? Because that's happened before.

Thanks for participating in this act of grand self-delusion everyone!!!

If youre going to have the Lexus for a while, just get it converted to LPG and then it will be almost bearable.

Im getting a company car in the next month or two, something diesel with good fuel economy. So that means I can get myself a gas guzzler for the weekends or going to the shops! Im not sure whether to go Range Rover or huge saloon.

Well I'm assuming I have the same right to be offended by a lack of apostrophes as TireeTerror has with bad language.

Its getting quite boring now. There is a reason why posts were deleted and people were warned. This stuff is boring.

Lets get back to the cars.

What other cars have nice tablet tables in the rear seats? I really like the look of them. Im out on the road a lot and Im always eating in my car, I think Id quite enjoy getting into the back and having my lunch at a small table.

    Renault Scenic
    Zafira
    Toyota Verso

In fact pretty much any bland family wagon. I'd give a longer list but some are questionable and others, like the Daewoo Tacuma, are just down right offensive and I'd like to not be infracted for posting them.

Modern saloon cars usless they are LWB tend not to have them. I believe some coach builders will fit them to Range Rovers and the like but it's rare on non-family wagon cars now.

A more recent and left field Luxobarge here.

    A V6 (3L) 607 with all launch options ticked.

No price but it's surely under 4k and depending how far under I reckon it deserves to be here.

It'd have to be nearer €2k to find a buyer!

Agreed but as a low mileage high spec barge it's got a lot of appeal if you value comfort over a nice badge.

    I'm looking for a silver 728 am I mad?

    Yes. The V8s are better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,479 ✭✭✭Hootanany

I was going to use it as my daily car so 728 would be lighter on the pocket?

It is but not as much as you would think. LPG the V8, way cheaper to run than a petrol 728 and nicer in all ways.

Why? Its much cheaper than petrol and is an ideal solution for luxobarges.

For many the only way to drive a V8 daily. At least the only sensible way, running cost of a 1.9TDI. Was great with my S8 and said to be great on the BMW V8s too.

Its a proper car enthusiast bit of man maths and should it become commonplace it would open up a world of awesome options for people.
