1.3 Skoda engine if I recall correctly (these were a facelifted version of the Favorit model that replaced the old back engine models in markets such as the uk in 88/89/90 (can't think which).

They did however use VW petrol engines in 1.6 petrol (not in Ireland) and 1.9 diesel - in these however

Like old fords ;) - so of course it could be 132,000 easily enough.

If it drives well though and is in good condition - it could still be an okay runabout.

Would I be right in assuming they aren't the nicest things to drive (especially if no power steering - which is likely the case). Or are they not as bad as I imagine them to be.

Not thinking of buying one (Pandas on my radar right now) but just curious
mine is giving no problems, road noise is loud, the one with the skoda engine is better than the one with the vw 1.4 engine, when i got mine the oil filter was wrong as was the plugs, i fitted the correct plugs now it is a miser on the old arab water.

Are they not a mechanical odometer with 5 digits, am I thinking of the favorit?

That could make a good buy and it looks very clean. I've seen very few of these at that age with a service history and I don't think I've come across any that has been garaged every night.

It seems like it's got great care and as long as it hasn't got much rust it would make good bangernomics.

    Why is that?

I thought it had a skoda engine which was developed into the 1.4 mpi that they used in the fabia, was under the impression that the first skoda to get a vw 1.4 was the fabia 16v and Octavia around 2000

The thing is though I don't think these cars came with a vag 1.4 as colm alluded to above.

These cars were launched well before vag introduced their soft 16v 1.4 engine so if the felicia was to get a vag 1.4 it would probably be of the older generation such as the unit that's in the mk3 golf. This engine Imo is actually not a bad unit and is reliable enough.

The 1.6 engine was vw, but I've never seen one in Ireland.

That would probably have been the same 1.6 engine that's in the mk3 golf. These aren't soft like the newer vag units.

Seller knew enough to do the previous NCT early - why not this one?

last nct was only done a few weeks early though. Still it's no excuse for not having it done early this time around.

Have never figured out the love from Irish car buyers for the E60 5 series - particularly the 520d - the decision to run with run flats was ill judged from BMWs viewpoint.

E39 - definitely a more attractive car - and definitely BMW lost ground with the E60.

Twas like they said - okay look - we will let Jaguar have a chance with the S type :D:D

Do you have numbers to back that up? There were and still are absolutely tons of them on the road....

    No mention of NCT though.

The Legend was a Shed of the Week on Pistonheads recently. No nonsense Japanese luxury, understated too.

    Not sure I follow:confused::confused::confused:

I said I couldn't understand the love of Irish car buyers for the E60 5 series - sounds like an acknowledgement that there are plenty of them on the roads.

As regard it being an ill judged decision by BMW - well it harms the ride comfort of the car - that's why it was an ill judged move on their part.

Youd expect a car in that segment of the market to have a very comfortable ride. So why youd bring in a type of tyre that would harm that is beyond me.

BMW deciding whats good for the customer .

When you said "lost ground" I read that as lost the lead in numbers.. I see now you mean style/features.

I was more thinking of how the E39 was a fabulous car in so many years - and it wasn't just on style - the loss of ride comfort due to runflats was a big step in the wrong direction imo.

E60 is definitely my least favourite of all the 5 series generations.

    E28 - nice, E34 - leap forward again - nice car, E39 - awesome

E60 - oh dear - we fell backwards here.

F10 - looks fantastic - and reports seem to suggest its nicer in various ways then the E60.

I've a very common alloy for an e46 sitting in the boot of my car in Dublin which has a very good Bridgestone Turanza tyre attached. It owes me €50 and if someone wants it to help keep a banger going, maybe you just want the tyre, let me know.

PM me with an offer and you just collect.

*****sorry mods, it might help someone otherwise it's being weighed in with the car I'm driving*****

My bmw love ends with the e39.

Like some 1960s buildings though the e60 will probably grow on me with time.

I hear what your saying 100 percent - I had BMW written off in my head as a maker of genuinely desirable saloons before the F10 came out - and even at that - im still not convinced that the F10 truly represents a return to form.

F10 does look nice though in fairness - and I think the adaptive suspension (optional ) is supposed to make a nice job of it.

And the 3 series was the same - E46 nice - E90 - a falling off the wagon job.

Think the new 3 series looks okay though - saw a lovely dark gray touring - 131 or 2 can't remember - on Sunday

Deserves a thread guys. Why the E60 (is that what they called it?) Was the smuck of BMs and why previous gens were better or Chris Bangle - ostentatious people's god but style crminal!
