AFL teams can't just snap international players up on a whim like that, there are all sorts of procedures in place that they have to follow. I'm pretty sure Keegan will be too old to be added to an AFL team's rookie list by the time the Rules series is over.

Would think that Keegan is just heading away travelling rather than joining an AFL team if the Aussie rumour is true.

Keegan was going away for the summer lads, but has now decided not to go.

    Cillian O' Connor likewise.

Also the rift between Horan, Feeney and Freeman has been sorted.

A player's meeting took place last week and this was all covered, it seems that Horan will be manager next year

I'd be sad if Cillian went. I hope he doesn't feel disillusioned or whatever, but he's a young lad he probably wanted to get away for a while like a lot of people his age. The timing wouldn't be great in terms of his footballing career though, he's developing nicely every year, he could become one of the top forwards in the country next year, playing no top level football next summer could hinder any developments. There's more to life than football of course

It's encouraging IMO that these developments Maroon and Green has stated, seem to coincide with a meeting last week in that perhaps Horan has sat down with these guys and the squad and given a real case that the panel should stick together for a real go at Sam next year. Belief will be so crucial

Definitely think they wont sell out,. An awful lot of people think Mayo are finished with for the next few years. If Maroonandgreen is right id think differntly however as horan and the players would not waste another year together if they felt it wouldn't reap the rewards....

We will be notified about renewals in a few weeks. Usually go on general sale at the beginning of December (if not sold out)

What happened that there was a rift? Was it about Horan taking him off when he didn't have a flu at all?

Yes, Freeman was understandably unhappy about that

Did any of ye listen to the Mayo News podcast from last week? Good listen it's hosted by Rob Murphy- Mike Finnery, Sean Rice and Edwin McGreal are analysts

Actually a valid point raised by Murphy, hasn't been mentioned by anyone else was there a case for bringing on Freeman with ten mins to go?

    100% was a case.

Yeah I hadn't thought of it till he mentioned it. Def was a case IMO too!

McGreal felt Horan probably had Conroy earmarked to come into the game from an early stage if necessary. He probably showed well in training and he definitely did in the semi as we all saw. With COC a doubt and Moran's form questionable, Horan might have felt Conroy would start but when COC was passed fit he had to leave him off as he wasn't going to leave out the captain. He was going to use any opportunity to get him involved and that could well have been the motive for the rash decision

Should've just swallowed his pride and brought him back in, f- it it's an AI final, Anthony Cunningham brought on Conor Cooney- he missed a ball- and called him ashore all in the space of 5-7 minutes, in the hurling showpiece last year

He would hardly bring him on if he took him off for having the flu. Then people would wonder why he was taken off in the first place.

    No bother!

    Breaffy destroying Charlestown.

Looking like a local derby in the final- Castlebar annihilated Breaffy in the group, so it'll be interesting. They should have way too much for Knockmore next

^^^ And I assume that rules Aidan out of the International Rules. No harm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,736 ✭✭✭Fowler87

Slightly annoyed I didnt have a punt on Breaffy for the county championship now when I last saw them priced @ 4/1:o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 868 ✭✭✭Gerry91

    Castlebar will beat them ^^^

Danny Kirby superb again, he absolutely has to be given game time in the league could be just what Mayo need in the forwards!

Can't make comment as wasn't at any if the games but it sounds like both games were poor enough quality. I suppose two big championship games in a week took its toll
