I've only got 60 mhz to go and the gpu slider slide no more and 75 on the mem. My main concern is doing something silly. and fvcking up my card.

Its impossible with software overvolting. Afterburner wont give you enough voltage to do any damage. Just watch your VRM/Memory temps and you'll be fine

So is your max core voltage is 1185mv? That's more than safe anyway. I run my 7970 at 1225mv. You should be able to push near 1200 on the core. Your temps are fine too. Are you checking your max temps with afterburner or hwinfo64?

watching them on my thermal radar and then check msi after every run..

Vcore north is hitting about 48 /49
Gpu temps were pretty stable at 51

I can push it to 1300 mv on the core. at the moment core voltage is at 1163 and the core is at 1150mhz im going to bench mark it a couple more times to make sure everythings ok,

temps again I've got Thermal radar open and msi.. and heat on the gpu core averaging 51 at 41%

Right been playing metro for the past hour and no crash's at all at the above settings. its runnign at 112 fps because I play at 720p apposed 1080p Id rather decent textures and good frame speed :)

You should be playing at whatever your screen is. Anything else blurs the game.

Those temps seem too low for those settings to be honest. Download HWinfo and check the max temp after every run with that. What are you testing with?

You should download something stressful like 3dmark or catzilla although you have to pay or catzilla for 1080p runs and firestrike is the only stressful gpu test in 3dmark which you have to go through the other 2 tests to get to.

I've everything on the computer set to display at 720p

just down loaded hwinfo, I'm using uniengine haven x 4 pass and metro 2033 and basically throwing grenades as that always caused lag for me in the past.

Played it for an hour and no lag what so ever it ran smooth.

Why? What monitor do you have? No wonder your gpu temps are so low.

The card is more than capable of 1080p and will not be remotely stressed at 720p.

I've a dell ultrasharp. buy logic is i can play a game on almost max settings @ 720p

or i can play at ok graphical settings at 1080p and struugle for decent frame rate when I get my second 7950 and a new psu ill cross fire and play a 1080p I just want to have really nice graphics and good fps and I find the best way is to have a lower res which isnt that bad.... :o

Myabe im weird but i like high fps:)

That card overclocked should be around the speed one of mine at stock, if not a little bit more powerful. It'd eat through games at 1080. Higher res means you can run less AA too, so if you dont like the frames at 1080, turn the AA down !

Exactly. An overclocked 7950 will run 99% of games on max settings with low AA at 60fps. There are a few exceptions like metro and crysis 3 but these are rare.

I'd still sooner play those at 1080p with tweaked settings that will have little effect on image quality but will pump your fps up to 60.

LCD's are not meant to be run outside of their native resolution. You're getting a far worse picture quality than you would with at 1080p with a couple of settings lowered.

    Dude, 1080p.
Imagining 720p being scaled onto a 1080p monitor makes me uncomfortable.
Drop motion blur and use FXAA.

I'm looking at grabbing a 290 and watercooling it (and hooking my 4770k onto it too), I just second hand gear (which I do see a boardsie has some on adverts). I just have to wait for reviews etc and see if I can grab a non-reference one that clocks highly.

And if it's Elpida, gogo 1400mhz at 1.7v!!!

Currently @ 1175mhz core, 1400mhz mem @ stock voltage for the card.
Load temps still in the 60s.

This card is silly, for €225 I think I have made off like a bandit....
The overclocked 270X 2gig goes for the same money

I see clockers have put the price of the card back up to £200 and the Asus 7970 top back to £240.

Scan still have the Asus 7970 Top for £220 though...

This has to be one of the best cards going for the money atm...

Absolutely. Man you should be delighted with that overclock.

That's an insane clock on the core for stock voltage. Temps are great too. What is the stock voltage on that card?

Have you touched the ram yet? If it's the hynix you should be able to get 1600-1800 depending on what the stock voltage is.

Stock voltage is 1.2. A slight boost over the reference. Ram voltages I have not even looked at yet..

One site claimed 1240 mhz core and 1545 mhz mem @stock voltages for the retail card they reviewed.

For which 7950? On air? I doubt it tbh. That's so high for a 7950 (it's possible on a 7970 though, by virtue of their cores being binned higher).

Allegedly these guys got to those clocks on air.

That's a high stock voltage and explains your good results. Still seems to be a great card. It's amazing that cooler design is so efficient when most companies have abandoned the single fan blower design in favor of dual or triple fan designs.

Most of the air is going out the back of the graphics card as well so it's not being recycled into your cpu cooler like most.

That's an insanely high overclock on air. That's as fast as a 770 pretty much righ there. For almost half the price. Amazing.

Just use the link via that website. Basically HWVS is traversed by that site and gives it cheaper prices on order to undercut the competition (some of whom do the same thing). The prices changes regularly and the links are temporary, so they're only really useful at point of order.

Also, not all components will show up tar site (even though they may be on HWVS, for example, they may recently have been out of stock etc.).

:) GL, great savings to be made using that site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,047 ✭✭✭Bazzo

Yep, as Gumbi said just search for whatever product you're looking to buy and scroll down the results to find the HWVS link. You can get anything up to 10% off at times.
