Not sure what benchmarks your looking at but at stock it just a 7970gz for $300.

Differences in all the benchmarks there are pretty marginal. From 7.00 onwards.

I don't see why. 220w of power usage and only €15 cheaper than a 4770k except it will work out more expensive considering the higher wattage required for a psu and the beast of a cooler required to handle that heat. You will also need a fairly high end board.

While it's close to the 4770k in a lot of benchmarks the 4770k hammers it in lots of others and considering the 4770k has a lot more overclocking headroom it's a no brainer.

I'm not sure what amd are doing with this. They were at the right price point and performance with the 8320/50 and 6300/50.

love the sound of this I think id bye one sounds bad ass. :D

cant afford it really but you know...

They should undercut nvidia and get prices back to normal level. We got enough power, we need reasonable prices if they expect us to spend money.

They won't. NVIDIA set a precedent with Titan, and AMD aren't going to be chomping at the bit to sell their cards for less. Think about it: They can sell their €500 card for €150 more, and still undercut the competition. Why would they do anything different?

As long as it is faster and cheaper then Titan - its a winner in my books. If they will have it faster then titan and more expensive then titan - then here we go with this shiet again...

The titan shouldnt really figure in the pricing comparison as its a one-off (hopefully) dick waving card that was stupidly priced

Comparisons with the 780 are a much fairer comp on the value side. since the 290X is about 10% more powerfull than the 780 is it going to cost more than 10% than the 780.

His 7950 icq turbo arrived in post yesterday. Not bad from OCUK considering I ordered on Saturday morning and they shipped the same day.

Card clocked to 1150mhz core and 1300mhz on stock voltage. Temps are in the 60s under load.

Running crysis 3 @2560x1080 on high preset above 50 frames according to fraps. Game will run on the very high preset but feels a bit laggy as the framerate dips below 30.

Have as of yet to look at the BF4 beta which I should get around to tonight.

Overall very impressed with the card, runs cool and very quiet even with a good oc on top.

I'm not sure what memory is on those HIS cards. If it's the Hynix memory you can get it as high as 1700-1800 if you go up to 1.6v.

With stock 1.5v mine does 1650. If it's the Samsung memory you should still be good for about 1500.

And if it's Elpida, gogo 1400mhz at 1.7v!!!

Really? I don't even like putting the Hynix to 1.6. Not for the small gains.

Has anyone ordered anything from Amazon through Flubit lately?

Flubit won't let me proceed without a valid postcode. The usual 0000 or EIRE don't work. Any workarounds?

Parcel motel is not an option as I won't be able to pick up the packages.

Clocked it up to 1175mhz core and 1375mhz ram, still on stock.

Battlefield 4 Beta is now in the 50s to 60s framereate wise Vs 30s-40s for the 6950. (2560x1080p, ultra textures, high settings for everything else)

Not too shabby. Card still in the 60s temp wise. These 7950/7970s clock like beasts....

How high is the average OC for a 7950?

It's probably a minor design flaw on their website, they might fix that if contacted.

I really thought about getting it but I decided I didnt want something on my desk that looks like the tumbeler from Batman

I bought a Func Ms3, to be honest its the most comfortable mouse I've ever used it holds your entire hand and its comfy really comfy. but let us know how you get on with it :)

Benchamarking my vapor x 7950 at the moment at 950mhz with 1325 on the memory when should you start uping voltage I know voltage is locked, did read that you have to use the other bios to go higher?

I really REALLY reluctantly upgraded from a CM Storm Sentinel, loved the mouse but its in bits (cleverly camouflaged in the show your rig thread :o ) Heard good things about that Func too !

And only up your voltage when the card starts locking on you, does that card have a dual BIOS ?

Dont get me wrong there all pretty similer Ive heard good things about the rat7 chap on boards has one who I game with and has nothing but greatness to say about them.

yea theres a bios switch on it.

what do you mean bye locking the screen went black for a second so i backed down the memory to 1430 from 1440 left the gpu at 1150

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Screen lock up's are caused by driver crashes which usually happen with an unstable core. Memory instability usually results in visual artifacts.

Not a fan of the Rat or most expensive brand mice tbh. Not when you can get a quality mouse like this for a third of the price.

the only thing that happened with me is when i push to hard the screen gos blank I have to reset the computer and adjust accordingly presumably that's down to power?

I finished a clock last night with 1490 on the memory and on the gpu a clock of 1140 it can go higher I just dont understand the voltage and the vapor X is locked so all there is to adjust in power limit in msi  which Im not really that confidant about.

What your having there is a hard lock. Back down your core clock, have you enabled voltage adjustment in MSI's option menu? I could have sworn the VaporX had voltage control.

Power limit doesn't really factor into things, although setting it too low will cause the card to throttle. Max it out, there's no harm.

I backed it down and tested for an hour on haven and it was fine temps of 51c and fans were at 41%

I just enabled the voltage adjustment. Whats does this mean can i push for a high core clock?

Im not 100% on over clocking but so far im pretty happy :)

The more voltage=more heat and higher clocks...Just do it a little bit at a time...
I find testing overclocks with a game like bf3 or farcry 3 does the trick..if your overclock can handle those games your good to go..
Benchmarks like furmark,heaven,mark3d,mark3d11 i find i can clock my cards to the last but as soon as i play a game they crash..
So all I do now is use a gpu heavy game to do my testing..
    Hope that makes sense:cool:

So i can push my core clock a lot higher now bye increasing the voltage?
I dont have far cry 3 or bf3 Ive got the beta for 4, boarder lands 2 seems like the toughest game to push a card on for me always have problems with that game and metro 2033 think its to do with phizex

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,594 ✭✭✭Deano12345

Catzilla is a good benchmark test. As far as actual games go, Far Cry will find an unstable core clock very quickly !

And yeah, as a rule of thumb, more voltage = higher core clock and tempretures

I've got a couple of voltages, ive got

    Core voltage (mV) 1125
    Power Limit (%) +0
    memory Voltage :mV) 1600

whats should be the method of overclocking from here on out.

Metro should be a good test.. find a level were there is loads of action fire and smoke to stress it out.

ok...leave your voltages at stock for now and try 1100 core and 1500 memory and see how you go..if all is good then try 1125 core and stay at 1500 for memory .keep increasing the core until you get a crash then back it off a touch and try again...once you have reached the max core you can get at stock volts without a crash increase the memory until it crashes and back off a touch until all good.. then you know what you can get @ stock volts..
Make sure to save those overclocks on afterburner incase it goes tits up later you have a stable clock to fall back on..
Now up the voltage to 1200mv and go through the same procedure..Keep an eye on temps..

You can mess around with the memory voltage later as you wont get to much of a gain with that..
That's how I do it..takes a while but nothing worse than half way through a game and you get a graphics crash..

I've pushed booth till there max which is 1500 mem a 1140 gpu core they will go no more when i push the mem any higher I get a light blue screen, when I push the core any higher I get a black screen

The GPUZ asic quality is 68.2%

Right been playing metro for the past hour and no crash's at all at the above settings. its runnign at 112 fps because I play at 720p apposed 1080p Id rather decent textures and good frame speed :)

So how do I up the voltage and the core presumably I push the voltage bye maybe 10 and then push the core mhz bye 5 ? or push booth bye increments of 10 ?

I overclock by putting the voltage all the way up, finding my highest stable clock, then back the voltages back down until I find the minimum voltage for the OC I'm running.
