Okay, it says 1.9 on the advert. I figured him saying HDI was because he's a spoon. 50mpg is a realistic figure in that car, I know this as I'm good friends with dgt and have seen its economy first hand.

Try and read in between the lines, I know this is a forum so everyone can have their own opinion, but the science behind me saying 50mpg is solid.

Also, that Polo is in such rag order. 250 is a stupid price, especially for the 1.4l one. You can pick up a running one with NCT for 450 due to the perceived higher tax.
The thing is though it's not a perception as the tax is in fact nearly double what it would cost on a 1.0 version.

Oh don't get me wrong barura, there is no doubt in my mind it will return 50 miles to the gallon, be it the hdi engine or the xud engine. What I was taking a pop at was the sellers comment - a tenner will get ye a night spinning....thats hardly a scientific comment is what I meant.

I really put the polo in for the novelty factor more than anything...theres a challenge for ye is what I sort of meant by it.

Still though if the rest of it was in half decent order it might be a better project for a chancer like myself (if I had more than 10 minutes to spare these days) than one with with engine problems for example.
I agree, but I think a better example is out there for fixing up.

Also, apologies, was crabby the other day.

Try this one on, has been up for three weeks. I think an honest 320 cash and it could be a nice project.

Personally, if I had cash lying around I'd be all over it... :o

i think its fair. one of the latest reg's of that model and looks to be an original Irish/ UK car that hasn't been skangerised yet. auto, leather, climate control and the correct drivetrain. seems ok for 2k imo, probably pass the NCT like :) bit of a slow alcoholic but sure...

There is one in bangernomics that passed the NCT today for €1700 though. It has got the boggo seats but still...

2003, one owner car with nct until sometime next year. It's a manual though and it's got higher mileage than the one above(not that it matters) :)

fair points i suppose lads :)

if i had too much money i'd love an is200... particularly with the leather/ auto combo, must have let my fantasy jade my judgement.

Those SportDesign models are pleasant enough. Woeful gearbox though.

It's a bit worrying that that particular car went around for at least a year without nct. It smacks of a car that got no maintenance Imo. Still though it looks surprisingly fresh in the pics.

    The auto is woeful?
I've driven a 6 speed manual and thought it was smooth.. if a little underpowered. .

LOL lots of buttons alright. It's even worse than a Jag xk and that's saying something!

    Even though it's a v6 it's still only 168bhp :(

    No, It's a V5

i think its an I5 not a V6, the whole thing is very confusing... still not packing much of a punch for a 2.4 anything :P i'd say the levin would school it.

My bad, on further research it is a staggered straight 5 derived from the VR6 which had me confused:)

EDIT: No matter what the configuration it doesn't produce enough power :p

sounds **** whatever is it, wouldn't be gone on it when the 1.8t could probably produce similar stats without much work (that said i'm speaking from a non VAG educated background :) )

still wouldn't mind swanning around, surrounded by all those gadgets and cow.

The 1.8t came from factory with 150 or 180bhp. Nice interior but you would never find the button you wanted :P There is something nice about it though:)

Going by the pictures it has not had tax for two years, insurance for 2 years or an NCT for 3 years...

I assume its been parked for at least 2 years which is of its self a worry... Depending on how it was stored you could be looking at tyres, battery, hoses and lord knows what else..

A future classic for sure but at that price it will still be owned by the current owner when it turns a classic.

Is there anything really wrong with this car, bar the nct and tax, Id be v interested in this car.... I dont mind the tax/nct issue as it would be for export.

Can I get insurance to cover me while I drive around continent and then sell for spares/parts.

Im sure there is a lot of cars going for spares to other countries so if I can do without losing any money....Im willing to give it a go.
