County board clearout, overloaded with freeloaders

You'll be putting your name forward for one of the voluntary positions that takes as much and more time as any full time job then I assume?? Always easy to blame the officals.

This is pretty good. Galway GAA rife with these lads this year maybe?

There are plenty people prepared to do so and yes I would if it wasn't such a closed shop!

Who would have thought the footballers would be in better nick than hurlers by end of summer???

Are they? Hard to call I guess.

Footballers had a good win against an average Armagh team but still div 2 in fairness, and put it up to Cork, wouldn't say they're in much better nick though. Hurlers did lose to eventual AI champs and the footballers did have a few shockers too

I'd say it was a more positive year for the footballers perhaps but pound for pound the hurlers have a far better chance of winning anything next year...

When all is said and done the hurlers wont be that far off the mark next year. I would suggest that a few fresh voices in the dressing room should help CLEAR THE AIR and iron out a few petty issues.

The biggest thing they are missing appears to be belief in themselves and their teammates when the heat gets turned up in a game.

Agree. had they beaten Clare for example who's to say they couldn't have gone on to win it! All hypothetical of course but Limerick have an unfortunate tendency not to turn up on the big day and Galway have had good joy against Cork of recent

The draw tonight could be interesting. Maybe need a bigger test than Laois before a Leinster final!

A few good champ wins under their belt and that belief will start to build. I wouldn't rule ye out of the AI next year by any stretch.

In other news I can't wait for the semis this weekend. I think Portumna will sneak it and Lrea probably have too much experience but Beagh do have a serious all round side and great belief

W are missing a lot, forwards that can score, we always seemed to have them one time, simple handpassing and support play rather than every player doing it on his own.

big game between Portumna and St. Thomas this weekend! how far back have portumna gone in the last few years?

Well they haven't won it since 09 (I think) and they were nearly unbeatable back then so they have regressed there's no doubt about it. In 2010 they were outclassed by Loughrea after a replay but in 2011 they were unlucky enough in that they were plagued by injuries v Thomas' in quarters iirc. Last year was a disaster alright

Any team with the Cannings', A. Smith, Hayes' and Dolphin will be hard bet that's for sure

They've young lads coming through now aswell in O'Meara and Treacy. They'll win by a point or two this weekend I reckon

He's always injured. Did the cruciate a few years back and has picked up a good few niggles since I think, he was def injured for 2011 under 21 All Ireland which they won.

Similar to Richie Cummins in a way. Shame

    Richie Cummins...

If this guy could be kept fit he should have some part to play in fast summer hurling.

Leinster semi set up with Kilkenny if we get over the runners up of the round robbin competition. Hardly ideal preparation but at least there's 7 league games to play this term.

Footballers play London in the first round with winner to play Sligo. Need to start from level of Cork game and drive on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 868 ✭✭✭Gerry91

Sligo in Marcievicz. Ye should win that but ye've an awful recent record against them

Really hope it's us v ye in Castlebar in final though

Of course that's provided ye beat London- surely ye will

Not a bad draw for the footballers in that they avoid Mayo until a possible Connacht final. That said to win Connacht they will have to play all 3 games away from home barring replays. Would still fancy them to reach a showdown with Mayo in Castlebar next July. I think Galway's graph is on the way up while Sligo's may be on the way down a little. Will be a tough game up there though.

Harder draw for the hurlers this year but the easy draw this year was no help to them at all in the end. At least now they have that Kilkenny game to target. Two teams with big questions hanging over them after this year.

Galway KK be a cracker hopefully!

That's interesting all footballers games away. Still even if ye make Conn final and lose it ye'll be playing a team coming through back door for place in quarters

Was at ye're game in Marcievicz 2010 tough aul place to go but ye should do it

Yeah all away games. We would have had Roscommon at home alright had we drawn them.

any ideas about what went on at the county board meeting last night?

Cunningham was supposed to be in attendance to explain this year / plan for next year.

I said it before, but i hope that Galway go cap in hand to John Allen, great at clearing out County Board / Squad infighting problems.

Look at the Clare lads who bought into Davy.......they'd die for him. Cant say the same about any of the Galway panel at the moment to be honest.

I dont think Cunningham was to attend? I think it was more of a forum for the clubs to give feedback on what they thought of the year past and how to best proceed?

Galway have had 8 different managers since their last AI victory, management is not the issue IMO and I don't see what Allen would offer that none of those 8 - which remeber includes Cyrill Farell and Ger Loughnane - offered.

Players mentality and club rivalries are far bigger issues in Galway hurling and someone who understands the intricities of that would be a better shout than Allen IMO.

As bad as things are with Galway football, we'll win another football before we win a hurling, it mightn't be in the near future but I have given up all hope of winning the hurling in the short-medium term (which is precisely when we probably will go on a good run again)

More farcical scenes at the end of the semi-final today. The County Board will get another windfall due to a ref apparently hell bent on making it a draw game. Apart from the dodgy free, 1 minute of stoppage time was ludicrous, 3+ would have been more realistic.
