One new thing I saw today for vegans is that tesco do their own soya butter now.

Just started this anime, love it:

Started watching that about two days ago! It's really good, those Titans are really creepy looking!

Managed to start eating some "veggie fingers" from Birds Eye in the past week or so, not bad when stuck under a grill.

yeah the titans are so creepy in it, really gives a feel for what it would be like if that happened to humanity.
    I watched 10 episodes last night :|

    I'm neeeew! Kinda :)

Just wondering if anyone has been to Falafel and Kebab in Templebar? I LOVED the place and used to get a falafel plate without the garlic sauce and they knew my order off by heart :) But the last time I ordered, I found a piece of meat in my salad and it made me feel ill for ages in case I'd eaten some, so can't bring myself to go back now. Is that weird?! It's really annoying because I LOVED their falafel. :(

It's awesome, I only found it because I joined RAW not too long ago. It does an awesome lentil soup/Falafel combo lunch deal for 9 euros I think.

Checked out the site there and it says it does 'stuffed falafel' - what's that like? It doesn't do the regular plain kind? Do they do take outs? Ooooh so many questions. My belly is rumbling already :D

It's really good always really fresh. Hummus was amazing too. I always get the falafel wraps.

Knew I recognised the gym from CT Fletcher videos

He's quite the athlete, it has to be said. That's exactly where I recognised him from, CT Fletcher. He'll most likely use hemp or pea protein supplements if he does supplement as it's vegan.

Anyone got any high iron recipes? Bonus points if it keeps well in the fridge and tastes nice reheated.

So apparently there's been a cafe selling vegan cupcakes in the Liosban industrial estate without me knowing for some time now. They've got a pop-up cafe on Abbeygate street this week and I am stupidly excited to be going tomorrow. They've also got some gluten free prodcuts for anyone who is that way inclined and they do birthday, wedding etc, cakes also. Goodness Cakes

    mm cupcakes.
I've been meaning to find some good vegan cheesecake recipes. I've recently started playing around with alpros soy versions of cream/custard etc. some fun must be had.

Was a bit disappointed. Got a chocolate and coconut. The coconut icing was amazing although there was just a wee bit too much of it. The cake bit tasted of nothing and was seriously dry. Was thinking since it's a pop-up the stuff might not be as fresh as usual. Was still good enough for me to consider going back to try red velvet if I'm in town again this week but not good enough to fork out for a box.

There was only two vegan options but the pop-up seems to be selling just their Christmas themed stuff. I was hoping if business was good they would open up in town permanently (if for no other reason than somewhere that suits me and my gluten intolerant friend :P) but I was the only person in there. Weather is crap but nonetheless town was busy. Someone else was coming in when I was going.

That's a shame, I recently found a place selling Nobó Ice cream which is dairy free and made with coconuts.
I've yet to try it but it looks amazing and it's made in dublin. I'm going to treat myself to a few tubs for xmas.

I think I saw that in Evergreen before. Not completely sure, it was definitey dairy free ice cream made with coconuts anyway but possibly a different brand. I didn't get it though 'cause it was pretty pricey. Might treat myself for xmas and all though if they still have it.

What's everyone having for Christmas dinner? I had been planning on a stuffed squash but now I'm thinking I might make a shepherds pies instead... Hmmm...need to make my mind up fast!

I don't know yet but I really want something with pastry, like a wellington or something hmmm, anyone has any ideas let me know. I'm so excited for food :D What are you having for starter? I don't know what's a vegan christmasy starter?

    Moroccan spiced pie

    Mushroom, lentil and nut roulade

Something like either of these. The first one could be easily veganised. Oh gawd I'm so hungry

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,911 ✭✭✭Zombienosh

I've been contemplating what to have also, I was thinking of a nut roast, but I've ever made one before
I like the look of this one http://www.thekitchn.com/winter-recipe-classic-vegetarian-nut-loaf-102222
But I'd take out the alcohol and dairy, I need something simple and I have to cook it the day before because I have no space and Christmas day is all mental.
I could be lazy and just get a roast thingy and just make a desert instead. I dunno.

I wanted to make a vegan cheesecake but all the recipes I find are using vegan cream cheese, which I'm sure isn't available in ireland?

There's two brands available in Ireland, Tofutti (which a lot of American sites seems to use in recipes) and Sheese which in my experience doesn't taste much like cheese.

I've decided on a sweet potato and lentil 'Shepherds' pie. Not the most Christmasy but makes me think of winter and comfort food and I think I'll like it. Problem with nut roasts etc. is I had no clue whether they'd be to my taste or not.

Still not sure on dessert. I'm too used to other people making Christmas dinner, making main and dessert seems like so much effort. :P

That Moroccan pies looks really god Los! I can't help with a started I'm afraid, we don't bother with them in my house.
