Will not make the captains, will just be rushing and clock watching all day. Not a way to play golf

Finally played some decent golf this season.

77 of 8 (+6) for a 69nett with CSS normally at 73 or 74 at times in stroke comps, so hopefully a cut of .8, with a bit of luck I'll be off 7 in the morning.

    2 birdies
    8 pars
    6 bogeys
    1 double

To start with the bad - had a three putt on the first, ominous sign I thought however I then had four one putts on the front 9 which got my confidence up. Some great up and downs with accurate approach shots for the birdies. -1 after 8 but had a messy turn bogey, double then bogey followed by two pars to steady the ship. +4 with two to go but both tough holes and ended up +6 but it wasn't really that bad given that the wind was against making them play real long. Happy enough finishing however +5 would have been nice. Putter really was on top form today and didn't let me down once well maybe apart from the 1st that is! Stroke play really is a different beast to stableford, totally different type of intensity which helped my game. Such a beautiful day out there too. No two ways about it I let it slip on the back 9 after being level on the 10th tee but I'll worry about that another day, the back 9 is much tougher anyway.

Nice feeling sitting here waiting to see the results, not that I care too much if I win anything but waiting to see what the CSS is, really fancy a cut for the winter.

Had 40 points in a society outing in Woodstock yesterday. It was good enough to take 1st place. Played solid from the first tee box and played steady golf the whole way round.

    Well done
    😄😄😄

    39 points off 14.

    Par 71 Course, shot 82.

One Birdie and 3 doubles. Scored on every hole which hasn't happend in a while.

Living in Johannesberg (high altitude), so ball travels very long when driving well. :D

84 Strokes, 36 points off 12 in Grange Castle on Sunday.

Should have gotten myself a solid cut to be honest from the position I was in. Had 33 points after 15 holes, finished Double, Bogey, Bogey for 3 points on last 3 holes.

Very frustrating, sun was shining, breeze not too strong, so no excuses. The previous week, playing in howling gale & pouring rain I finished Bogey, Par, Birdie.

Struck the ball really well, probably hit 5 shots that I really wasn't happy with all day. A pulled 5 iron from middle of the fairway OOB on 4th (Triple), pushed drive off tee on 9 (recovered with up & down par), Duffed chip on 11 (recovered bogey with Up & down from bunker), duffed iron on 16 into hazard (Double) & high pulled drive on 18 (Bogey).

    57% FIR
    22% GIR
    30 Putts

    1 bird
    7 Par
    8 Bogey
    1 Double
    1 Triple

A great day for golf, with some almost great golf.

Thanks to Scubapro for the company, who must have lipped out a putt on almost every hole

Hard luck to Mayo. Dublin seemed to be the better team though.

34 points today in a competition in Ballykisteen. First round in a few weeks after an injury. Still not 100% but had to try it out today to see if I'd be able to hit it next Saturday. Like yourself I had 17/17. Finished 11th overall. No money changed hands in the fourball. We were all square on the last tee box when my partner said only a birdie would be alloweed to win the money. Course I parred it, my partner bogeyed and the other best the lads we were playing against could manage was a double bogey - the one bad hole they had all day!

    Thanks BallyK,
    Yip 43 putts, I'm like a Mayo forward, can't finish, it's becoming a curse.
There was a big cut there to be had but 3 scratches and 10 putts more than I should isn't going to get me one.

36pts in Moate on Saturday. I was 16th and there was a good entry so I was a bit surprised at that relatively high finish when I didnt feel that I had played particularly well. Winner had a massive 45pts.

Had it on here earlier and young lad said , " daddy why did he say a bad word".

Very Irish . "In the ****ing hole"

    Stick that in cliche thread.

Same here with my little one.

Doesn't really count but crammed a quick 6 holes in last night after work with my 12 year old son. Was principally there to get him more practice. He is showing some interest in the game. Anyway I was just playing shots alongside while coaching him. Went birdie, par, par, bogey, par, bogey. Only +1 for 6 holes. Nice :)

It was pitch black playing the last, real pity, would loved to have played more. After work golf is rapidly disappearing as an option

Second time playing a round of golf, hit 111 but they included a PAR 4 and PAR 5

    Felt Awesome

The two 9's and 16 tee slice's didn't feel as awesome, but strangely still proud lol

Played my first two rounds of Links golf at Strandhill and Rosses Point during the week. Now I see what all the fuss is about!!! Shot 38 & 36 points so I was delighted with that. Couple of birdies thrown in each day which is always nice. Courses are fantastic I think strandhill is that little bit tighter and accuracy is a must on some holes. The scenery is spectacular

Yep, before that it was -4 and a then a moderate amount of -1's 2's and 3's

The format helped as it was team of 4 with 2 to count so i could go for everything (i counted on 17 holes :))

Only joined the company a couple of months ago so im not sure whether its a help a hinderance with a score like that i.e. More golf invitations might come but the expectation bar is monumental. Also if you want to nett it with my previous round then its -8 combined for 36 holes (-2 in open singles on sunday), just hitting a late season run of form

83 today in monthly medal, off 15, for a net 68. Best round of the year so far, absolutely delighted with it.

    10 pars
    5 bogies
    3 doubles

As always, left a few behind me. Putter was on fire all day.

Finished 4th in the comp. Nice cut too. CSS was 71 so cut 0.9. Down to 13.7, lowest ever handicap and best ever score in a medal.

Winter rules coming soon, real pity for me...

30 points in the Vice Captains Prize in Ballykisteen today. Being out until 4am and then only having 5 hours sleep wasn't great preparation! We won the fiver in our friendly fourball though!

Just recently took up golf over the last 3-4 months played my first every 18 holes shooting 118 up in bray golf course. Loved the whole experience and day out. Been playing a few local par 3 courses usually hitting in and around the 80s now best been 74. Still struggling at certain times but determined to improve and get better. Really have the buzz for it now.

86 strokes off 12 in the last medal of the year.

Again, another case of a round getting away from me recently in the last couple of holes.

    36% FIR
    22% GIR
    1.67 Putts (2.25 per GIR)

Came off 15th green -1 net to that point, finished Bogey, Bogey, Double to finish +2 net.

16th is fine with a bogey, index 2, tough hole, a slightly underhit chip left me with a longer par putt than I should have had.
17th, index 18 Par 3, poor tee shot missed right. Good chip back across bunker, lipped out from 5ft for par
18th, index 16 Par 5, pulled tee shot OOB left (somehow managed to hit my 1st draw of the day, having hit fades for 17 holes). Was a Par, with a good up & down with my 2nd ball with a firm putt to hit the buffer, so can take a small consolation in that.

Running out of weeks now to get any lower. At 11.5 still, want to get at least back down to 11 before the season is out.

40 points in the Open in Grange Castle!
86 strokes off 18 to get me 0.9 of a cut, my first cut of the year... which is my golfing career.

    And that included 41 Putts!!!!!
    Sweet Jesus

16 points & 22 putts on the front 9, had a long hard talk to myself walking to the 10th.

Went around the back 9 in 3 over for 24 points.

Playing absolutely great golf tee to green!
    61% FIR
    71% GIR
I'd be happy with 36 putts or so with those GIR's, there were definitely 5 more points out there, especially on the front 9.

3 eagle putts on 4 of the Par 5's.
2 Pars and a birdie (on the 18th to finish on a high note) from them :(

From HDID, it looks like I came joint third, good luck beating me on the back 9 fella :)

So bloody happy (and slightly pissed off at the same time) with myself

Congrats. You could see by the way you were hitting it on Saturday that you weren't far away from shooting a serious score. Great back 9! The first ever cut is always sweet.

Super shooting, the puttings not as bad as you think. A lot of your putts on Sat had the right line. Just your pace to work on, remember those greens were in top condition on Sat.

Have to agree with BallyK your iron play was as good as any low handicapper. I'd imagine you could shoot sub 80 on your home course very soon.

Cheers Ben & BallyK, think I learned a bit on Saturday, a little bit more focus and cop on required to keep the scratches off the card.
I'm working on the putting but not letting it get to me too much, the pace is killing me but its only a very recent thing. Just need to keep the work up and build the confidence.

Was playing with a 64 year old who has drifted to 16 after not playing for 15 years.... He was giving me the same messages.
At the end of the round he asked if I was down for the Sat comp, neither of us were, so he said he'd love another game.
Nearly as chuffed with that as the cut.

Fantastic work AJ, great to hear it, only wish id had a random day off to see you do it. I wish I could post stats like that for fir & gir!!

Lads above are right, tee to green you've struck the ball great any time we've played this year, so was only a matter of time before that cut happened.

Hopefully you can push on & get another in before the end of the year
