Out of interest hand up any posters on this thread who have luxobarges currently?
    If not why not?
Il start it off by havent got the room on driveway to have one, dont mind running a second car, taxing for 3 months or so. Wont run one as my main car as I already have a TT roadster I wont be parting with.
I dont do too many miles but I can see poor mpg and tax ruining the experience. Something like a Jag XJ8 would be bulletproof reliability wise and look and feel the part. I love CLs and SLs and like the old W140 S , dont like BMs except the 8 series and E38 7 . The 6 series and 7 series of late do not impress me at all. Large Audis do nothing for me.

Plus of course you go into the deal prepared. You do your motorcheck, you visit the car and look it over carefully, you evaluate your seller, you look for history and you evaluate that, you get it checked over, you visit it again with cash in hand and you're ready to walk away even at that stage, because there's other cars out there.

I so so so wish I had the ability to restrain myself in this way. Im a salesman, been selling for years, so you would think I would know better, and I do know better, but Im cursed with irrational impulsiveness. As soon as I see it, Im ignoring the faults and just want it straight away, I get too excited!

Errah we all suffer from that. I did my due diligence on my current car, but it was in Wicklow so I had to go with my gut on mechanicals. The last car was gone over with a fine tooth comb though, and the mechanic was asked to "hang out of the suspension". He did, and it held up, and as far as I'm aware it's still on the same gear.

I'm not driving a proper barge at the moment. Business was tough last year so I caved, and tax was the only reason. Great car but it wasn't my ideal so I didn't take the wife's advice and put it into storage. Current car is still over a grand for tax, but it's more manageable, and it has very nearly all of the luxuries of the barge, plus an enormous boot, fold-flat seats, a towbar, etc. I also want to have its babies, so this one will be going into storage when I move to an E61 M5 or LS460 (or XJR100), I'm guessing in 2016.

I've it all planned out. So a Reliant Kitten then.

I don't but I have all the costs associated with one... A daily 96 toyota with 3L tax and 12L/100km and a 96 3 series cabrio locked away.

I couldn't take any more pain

You've similar luxobarge tastes to myself.
I don't have one although I really want an xj8 as 1 weekend car is enough as I'm still in college.
Couple with the fact that I can't get classic insurance as I'm 21 rules out any possibility of owning one for the next 4 years.
Also I have no room and I'm trying to get my alfa back to original condition.

Taxi. Nice if the FLSH checks out, but suspiciously low miles for a taxi?

I get one in the future hopefully, an 8 series, XK8/R e38 7 series or a S8. I have a 330i at the moment so there isn't much tax money to spare.
A TT owner I see, do you have any interest in a bentleys manual?

LOL. And there was I thinking it was superb value with over a grands worth of tax thrown in! I presume there's something wrong with it though - NCT can be done now, so why not do it before sale?

Surely 2k will buy the car?

Hahaha look at the state of that thing, its quite far off my vision of a luxobarge. Although I do admire your attempt to get the topic back on track! ;)

I succeeded and failed at the same time :D

It's cheap because he says the transmission needs attention.

What price on hugging a driveshaft every morning and evening? :D

Would say it was a limo or hackney with corporate clients. No way you would be hacking around with that engine and interior.

If you have a bad feeling about it you are probably correct!

Seller's command of English is a little off !

Beautiful looking car , wheels make it look a bit iffy.

I won't be opening my wallet for this;)
