What's the point of the favourite channels? I was hoping once setup there would be a new option in the tv guide to just see favourites like in sky.

i spent a while ticking off the favourite channels, but didn't notice the 'confirm' screen off to the left which you have to go to and click save or something like that. it's another case of bad usability, if you tick a channel as a favourite, that should be it! why would you need another screen to confirm what you just did. honestly UPC, the interface is very poor!

Ah you were right, I guess I didn't confirm it. Not very intuitive.

So it's really not a good interface but at least now I can select and order favourite channels. I'm still surprised there isn't an option to just display the guide with favourites only. They seem to be at the top of the all channels list. So if I'm way down the guide list (600 or something) I can type 100 to hop back to the start and my favourites are just before the UPC channel and RTE. Maybe I should put them in reverse order. Is there a better solution??

    hi,
I got the horizon box about 3 weeks ago and have to say its not bad at all.
We don't use it in the main room , its more for the kids and they love it.

One problem I am having is: Prior to getting the horizon box I had the epc 3925 (I think thats the number) I could stream my own content from my iMac to my smart tv using a few apps (playback, tvmobili and plex)
Since getting the horizon box my streaming apps keep appearing and disappearing from my smart tv (can't find the server?)

I could be watching a movie and half way through it just drops connection.
I can't get it to pick it up after that, nothing I do gets it back.

I can reboot the tv, the router, the iMac and it doesnt sort it.
It randomly comes back a few mins/hours later?

Has anyone had similiar issues streaming using the horizon box?

I was thinking of just plugging the epc 3925 back in but that kind of defeats the purpose of the all in one box.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sham.

this may have been answered before but I searched and couldnt find it.

Can I use the Red button on sky sports with the new horizon box? I love watching redzone on the NFL on sunday nights and not sure I could do without it!

    No, sorry.

I think the red button worked on a few channels (euronews?), but not on Sky channels that I'm aware of.

I got rid of Horizon. Have the old box back. So nice to not have to deal with that any more...

    Hi
I have a horizon box for the past 2 weeks and all was well until I attached my new Netgear RN104 12TB NAS to the LAN. Since doing this my audio/video on the TV channels is distorted and freezes and is also affected when playing recorded TV shows. As soon as I remove the network cable from the back of the Horizon everything is good quality again immediately!
UPC says the horizon supports NAS but do I have to have choppy audio/video as a consequence?
Any help or fixes would be greatly appreciated!

Hi - Just wondering if anyone who has the Horizon box has managed to secure any discounts from the loyalty team. Basically I was on a 12 month contract that included a good few loyalty discounts. The discounts expired this month and my bill has gone up by about €45 per month. I rang up today to see if there was anything they could do as its too expensive and I was told that there no offers for people with the Horizon box. They gave me the email address to cancel my account but before I do I was just wondering if its worth ringing up again. Be good to hear other peoples experiences. Cheers RQ

I kept my discount from before I had the box

Had the box for about a week now. It was difficult enough to find out how to set up the WiFi (had to google a lot), but it is now working ok (annoying user interface aside).

With one problem: it locks up every night and I have to hard reboot it.
    Anyone else have this?

It turns out that this is caused by a RJ45 connected Popcorn Hour. If I disconnect the PCH then the Horizon box is happy and starts up fine. I hope this will be fixed in a firmware release soon.

Me too. I made it very clear when I was switching that the discounts would be retained...

    Hi

Has anyone connected an amp to the Horizon box? I get audio OK on SCART but when I connect the RCA outputs on the Horizon to the amp I get nothing.

On the audio output menu the options are:
    • SCART
    • HDMI
    • Dolby (AC3)
    • SPDIF
None of these seems to cover the RCA outputs. Also perhaps the RCA audio output is enabled but turned down - is there anyway to turn up the native audio output? I've paired the Horizon remote with the TV so the remote's volume adjusts the TV sound output. I've tried to unpair it by following the instructions at the bottom of this support page: http://support.upc.ie/app/answers/detail/a_id/626/~/pairing-your-horizon-tv-remote-control However entering "981" doesn't seem to do anything and the remote remains paired.

    All suggestions welcome!

I managed to series record Match Of The Day Extra on BBC radio 5 when I was searching for the normal tv program, when I open the folder the box freezes, therefore I can never delete it and it will continue to record for the rest of the season, taking up space on the hard drive. Talked to UPC and the only way to stop this is to factory reset and reset all settings (losing everything). A simple fix to this would be a blue button delete when the series is highlighted like on the old box, a simple software update I would assume, but the man on the phone said they would have to do this update across Europe, and basically said it wont be happening anytime soon :(:(:(:(

Does anyone here have Sky+ and UPC broadband and how much is it altogether?

Is anybody else having issues with series linking? The option seems to have disappeared.

Also I still can't record from the apps or website

I'm really getting a pain in my hoop with box

Anyone on trial get a new email titled " extraordinary offer ". Not very extraordinary at all. States our HD channels were due to end on Sept 14th but they've extended it to Oct 14th but I now need to move to a "specially selected" launch package to keep HD.

The launch packages are pretty much the same cost as the trial (I actually got a broadband speed increase for no extra money)

Oh and all the Horizon bundles come with HD

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm on a month to month at the mo, guess they're trying to contract my a**.

Got an email offer telling me I can go from Trial to Launch package. The only option I was given was the €80 a month pack. Then I go looking and see this page:

    http://www.upc.ie/deals/tvbroadbandphone/

New users only pay €50 per month (for 6 months). Don't trial members get any of that action? And why can't I pick and choose the levels of each service? None of these packs have exactly what I want.

I was just looking at the same thing. I don't want the one they have in the email, which is called "Horizon Complete - Post Trial". I wanted the one below, however when you go to select and say you are existing customer, it tells you it is the full price plus and activation fee of €45!

For example, 150mb/s broadband requires the n standard. Many of my devices are g.....so I can only get 50mb/s.

Just got that email too, to be honest, it looks good to me.

I'm saving 3.50 a month, going from 100Mbps -> 150Mbps, and from free calls off-peak to free calls anytime. Sounds good, though I only really get 20Mbps in reality so I'll get 20Mbps when I'm on 150Mbps. Plus, I never use the phone.

Still, it's worth going for. What ISN'T clear, is if I'm signing up for a new contract. I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere in the ordering process (haven't put the order through yet). Does anyone know if you're signed up for a new contract when ordering that bundle?

Someone from UPC said you can order a lower package and upgrade the elements you want to change. I think if you're happy with what you have now, you don't need to sign up for the bundles. I'm going to leave it.
