Have had a kidney stone since Sunday and all I've ate was a slice of toast.
I didn't eat anything from last Friday evening after work until Sunday morning.

I had gone out on a rare bender Friday night, without having had anything to eat earlier. So I woke up Saturday morning, stomach empty but vomiting badly, pretty much every half hour, very painful, mainly dry wretching with some stomach acid.

I got so sick I had mouth ulcers. Then I woke up Sunday morning, totally famished, to discover anything i ate made my mouth agony.

So up until yesterday, I'd been sipping on custard, ice cream, creamy mashed potato and ambrosia since the weekend, because anything with texture was pure hell.

    Feel better both of you.
More often than I would care to admit. Especially coming up to the end of the month when rent is due.

    :(

I would cry...just pure tears...my foreman knows that if i don't eat then I get very cranky, production goes to zero, tears flow easily, have on occasion wished me mam was here with me dinner..:o

This post is sweet, it's like a toddler reaction to discomfort! :)

When I was tiny I used to cry if I was hungry. Now I just sniffle :P

A good few times when I used to take yokes. Very effective diet supplement.

Yokes are the great undiscovered food group of our time.

When I got mono last year, I completely lost my appetite for about a month. There were a few days where I ate nothing.
It was terrible because I lost about 2 stone and I felt like I was slowly dying :(

Taking stimulants a few days in a row, no sleep or food.

Charity fasts when I was younger.

Heartbroken once and my immune system crashed under the stress, got a really bad mouth infection just from my regular mouth bacteria, whole mouth, lips, tongue covered in yellow sores, think I had one bowl of soup in 3 days.

When I was younger I hated eating and would often try to go days without eating, but often my parents would force me to at least have dinner.

Bar religious fasting or before surgery has there ever been a point in your life where you weren't able to get something to eat?

I've gone days when I've had very little to eat and scraped by until payday but I can't think of any time when I've had nothing to eat.

Sometimes, I have been down to only one meal a day but I have always had something to eat...even if it was not a particularly exciting meal.

The only time I have ever gone without eating was when I am sick. Last year during a bad illness, I went 10 days but I sure made up for it once I was feeling better. :)

When I worked in BT if my bus was late and I didn't get time for breakfast I did occasionally end up forgetting to eat until I got home again in the evening - after a 12 hour shift and a 2 hour commute. That being the main reason I left that job... Probably had a week solid where I'd eat one meal around 10pm every day and nothing at all again until 10pm the next day.

I had a night job in my early twenties and all I was living on was a sandwich at my lunchbreak and another one after work. I lost so much weight doing that job. Fond memories. :)

I've done fasting for a charity when I was in secondary school a good few times. Other than that, for today for example had breakfast at 8 went to college and had dinner around six. You get hungry but if you ignore it, it eventually goes away. Not saying it's a good thing just that sometimes I'm too busy to eat. The only thing with me though is sometimes my blood sugar levels can drop quite suddenly (I'm not diabetic, happens to my mother and brother too) and it can feel like you haven't eaten in days, you can feel sick and faintly and your stomach hurts quite bad. Very intense and horrible feeling. Something quite high in sugar is the only thing for it then! My mother carries chocolate in her bag just in case.:pac:

Eat a high fat very low sugar diet.

With endurance exercise have trained my body to burn fat.

At 3500calories a pound, it's quite easy to go a day without food. A lot of hunger is just carbohydrate/sugar craving

I don't sleep too well so eventually I can get so exhausted that I forget to eat , using all the reserve energy I have to do what I have to get done for the day and then comatose into sleep.

I've also gone 2 weeks eating only special k 'cos I'd no money to eat anything else

Fasting for concern. Gastroenteritis (sp?) has a funny way of killing your appetite. Also often ran off to work without breakfast, too busy for lunch then just fell into bed when I got home the odd time.

Can't remember ever deliberately skipping one meal let alone a day's worth of food

Never. I'm like a bear without food so someone around me would probably feed me just to make the world a safe place again. I have to eat the minute I get up in the morning.

I went a week with nothing but water. It was fine to be honest.

    Yeah right.

When I was ill with tummy bugs where you can't eat for 24h to starve it off or whatever. When ill as a kid with gastroent-thingy and had to be put on a drip, no food for days. Heartbreak story like the others. Did intermittent fasting for a while, was really great til I went on a 3 week hol to the states and ate rings around me because the food was always in your face and so much of it!

I lose my appetite and don't feel like eating some days. There's probably some reason for it but I'm too cowardly to go to the doctor in case it's something serious (which isn't that likely as I'm fine otherwise).

Only gone without food when I've had a broken heart! Otherwise love my food!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,626 ✭✭✭✭My name is URL

I only ever eat (proper square meals) when I properly feel hungry and devoid of energy, or when I know I'm going to require sustenance for the day. There are times when I could easilly go 2-3 days without having a proper 'meal', in the traditional sense. I'll not go into the scientific aspects of such a dietary regime since it's definitely not something which would be good for everyone.

It works for me though. I'd go without eating for about 4 days per month right now. Aside from that I'd say I have a very balanced and healthy diet. Definitely healthier than most people I know anyway =( .. And I'm no fitness-freak either. I love food, and I love eating.. but it's like everything else in life.. not something that should be done purely out of habit.

Have done a fair few 24-48 hour extacy binges where you simply don't/can't eat. :)

Not in the last 5 or 6 years though.

    That's sad - why?
