Have you ever gone a day without food?

Bar religious fasting or before surgery has there ever been a point in your life where you weren't able to get something to eat?

I've gone days when I've had very little to eat and scraped by until payday but I can't think of any time when I've had nothing to eat.

Ya. I did Intermittent Fasting for a few weeks.

I'd skip food every second day. I'd eat between 9am and 5pm on Monday, for example, and then wouldn't eat until 9am on Wednesday.

Was easy enough but affected my weight lifting so I had to stop it. It was also probably a little extreme.

Now I don't lift weights and eat like a pig :/.

Only when I was down with a 'flu and had zero appetite. I wouldn't have been able to eat even if I had.

The auld broken heart of 2007. Lost about a stone in a few weeks. I never ever go off my food and get incredibly cranky if I don't eat but couldn't touch anything in those few weeks and I looked like crap by the end of it as I didn't have a stone to lose at that time.

Ah and also the flu in 2005. Again I lost a stone in a month.

I do it a lot. Whenever I'm stressed I just can't eat at all. Sometimes for days. I can have beer though. Beer has nutrients! :)

Yeah, I forgot I had one of those episodes too. Lost about 10 lbs in as many days, mostly in tears :(

Did a week as a test of willpower.

First 3 days are the hardest

After that it gets a lot easier. Your body adapts to it.

Mad the kind of affect it has on you and that your body reacts that way when it's probably the one time you need to look after yourself because of the stress you feel.

Have had a kidney stone since Sunday and all I've ate was a slice of toast.

I once did a sponsored 24 hour fast for charity, but in the last 30+ years I'd say I've never gone a day without food, unless I was ill, which is very rare.

    Sadly, it's beginning to show.

Had a summer in Prague where I pretty much worked hand to mouth doing hair-wraps on the street after my teaching job fell through.

Do a hairwrap and go eat. Do no hair-wraps, don't eat.

As family we used to 24 hour fast every Tuesday and donate the money saved on food.

Total emotional and physical shutdown, isn't it? Makes recovery that much harder emotionally, when physically you're weakened too.

    Heartbreak. Not for sissies.

I think 17 odd hours is my record. Had breakfast, started work and ate again when I got home. That'd be out of the ordinary for me so you can imagine the feast I had that evening :D

Aww..*hugs* When I am broken hearted, I gain weight because I turn to sugar for comfort.

The longest I've gone without food because I didn't have the money to buy it was probably a couple of days during my undergrad. I had spent all my money (as was usually the case) on alcohol and forgot to save some for food.

The longest I've gone otherwise is 11 days. I water fasted during the Christmas break just past for 11 days as a test of will power. It was hard the first few days and then it got easier. I lost about a stone and a half in the eleven days most of which was water weight I gained back within the first couple of days of re-feeding.

Currently I fast one day a week to allow for a day of eating junk food so that it can all balance out without me having to worry about gaining weight.

Quite often, usually from 8 on a Saturday night until some time on Monday after work when the Fear has finally subsided. Does the alcohol count? if so the time starts from about 5am on the Sunday

When I had all of my wisdom teeth out, i was in bed for four days and only managed to swallow water, 7UP, Lucozade and my prescibed painkillers which literally knocked me out for 2-3 hours.

I remember trying jelly on the fourth day and only after the first bite did my stomach say "oh dear god I am starving, more more more!"

Yes. Marooned between Drogheda and Dublin hoping to get to Limerick with a Limerick-Dublin rail return.
Started off drunk, wound up hungover, hungry and too weak to shoplift.
It is a very long walk and nobody gave me a lift....

I didn't eat anything from last Friday evening after work until Sunday morning.

I had gone out on a rare bender Friday night, without having had anything to eat earlier. So I woke up Saturday morning, stomach empty but vomiting badly, pretty much every half hour, very painful, mainly dry wretching with some stomach acid.

I got so sick I had mouth ulcers. Then I woke up Sunday morning, totally famished, to discover anything i ate made my mouth agony.

So up until yesterday, I'd been sipping on custard, ice cream, creamy mashed potato and ambrosia since the weekend, because anything with texture was pure hell.

Poor you. Make sure you drink as much as you can, at least.:(

    Feel better.

Unless I was really sick, only on drug benders. Mephedrone anyone? At least it kept me slim, lol.

Went 2 days before, for no particular reason I can think of. Just didn't have any appetite, ended up getting very very sick and had to try and eat something.

Has happened a couple of times. A few times was after drinking rose wine, come to the conclusion there's something in it which doesn't agree with me. Stomach was so on edge couldn't face any food.

Last time was just before my wedding. Got food poisoning the weekend before, literally couldn't face food. By the Wednesday I had to start forcing myself to nibble bits. First meal I managed to eat was my wedding dinner. Unfortunately the weight fell off me that week, I hadn't it to lose back then either, and the morning of the wedding I had to get the dressmaker over to pin in my dress, it was too loose on me.

Swine flu, was probably closer to 2 days. Was living on tea.

When I worked in BT if my bus was late and I didn't get time for breakfast I did occasionally end up forgetting to eat until I got home again in the evening - after a 12 hour shift and a 2 hour commute. That being the main reason I left that job... Probably had a week solid where I'd eat one meal around 10pm every day and nothing at all again until 10pm the next day.

More often than I would care to admit. Especially coming up to the end of the month when rent is due.

I went a week with nothing but water. It was fine to be honest.

Yeah often gone a day without grub, few days of being on the beer non stop, wake up and feel like a corpse for 24 hours or so, wouldnt touch a bit of grub, only a few more beers, fall asleep and then its normally junk food to bring me back to planet earth.

Saturday seems to be the best day of the week where i can go without eating for some reason.:D

A good few times when I used to take yokes. Very effective diet supplement.
