quite a conundrum, I sure do love my super-powered pimp suit. :P

Yeah but it kills gameplay when everyone has them within a few hours of launch :P

Its still better than a really boring modpack where it costs A DOZEN IRON to make a freaking bucket though! I liked the old GregTech for adding depth even if it was a bit idiotic at times; the new Ultra-Hardcore version is just ridiculous though. The version in the beta was annoying enough but at least it was playable and didn't make huge core changes to the gameplay. Now even making a pickaxe or a bucket relies on finding cross-mod exploits!

Its been a while since I've had the chance to say this, but... FTB server's down! :P (has been since last night actually!)

Minecraft's own login server appears to be down at the moment - overloaded. The server reports error 503, which is "service not available".
java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 503 for URL: https://login.minecraft.net/

When it does work, well, there are some very interesting things happening on the Survival server. Bring a minecart ... :p

Mojang has only been down for somewhere between 1 and 5 hours (it was fine around 1pm, I was on then). The FTB server died spectacularly mid-session and seems to be a separate issue.

What modpack is the FTB server on? I tried connecting with Unleashed but I get an error saying I need biomes o plenty?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 18,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭Solitaire

Its Unleashed, but you need to re-enable BoP in the launcher's mod selector as its disabled by default (must nag dec to edit the first post to say that).

Not that it matters right now, as Mojang is being attacked for a second day in a row and legacy sessions are down. Boy have they peed off some script kiddies somewhere!

for some reason when playing FTB when I start playing it runs fine, even on the max settings. But as I play the game starts getting really slow and the framerate gets really jittery, even on low settings.

Edit:I fixed the problem anyone else having framerate issues try going to your FTB launcher > Options > Advanced Options > Additional Java Parameters
    Add this : -XX:MaxPermSize=128m

Meanwhile, back on the Survival server, I ran in to a NPC Village today. So I holed up there overnight while I read up on what to do ... and learned that my mere presence was putting them in mortal danger. By morning, the place was besieged, and just when I thought it was safe, I ventured outside and was dead before too long. I'm going to go back and check whether there's anything left, but if anyone wants to take a look, it's at

Reminder to all: The FTB Server is back up. Information in first post is outdated. The new map is running on the latest version of Unleashed but with Biomes O'Plenty enabled. Once you've downloaded the pack and enabled said mod the server can be found at the usual place of 188.165.244.23:25566

Just FYI, on the FTB server there is a bug where using an end portal will reset your experience level to 1. Restarting does not seem to fix the problem either

Ok at around 12h50 pm today i lagged and fell to my death whilst moving base. I went straight back to my death point and everything had despawned instantaneously. I was moving all my stuff so all my disc drives with all my stuff from applied energetcis are now gone.
this is the second time ive died and lost stuff from instant depspawn. The last time was ok because i basically only lost my power armor and tools which were a pain to make but still ok.
Is it possible to roll back my player file and the chunks in my base?

What's the IP these days? , 188.165.244.23:25565 doesn't seem to be up.

    To all adventurers!

If you die with a knapsack equipped, you will lose everything within this bag. It is a 'rare' bug which seems to be very very common.

I would recommend making a golden bag of holding instead. Lots of space and doesn't wipe it's inventory on death or even when getting sucked into ME storage :P

So, I'm outside my place on the FTB server, look up at the sky, and see ... what?

    276642.jpg

There's something pointing down from that, so I climb up to take a look, and find this:

    276643.jpg

Basicaly, someone has built some infernal sky-mounted machine that is boring a 50x50 square hole straight down. It's already eaten most of a mountain, and will presumably keep going until it hits bedrock. I'm calling it the Mountain Muncher.

    276644.jpg

This is its business end: it stopped moving when I entered the "deconstruction site", but the "munching" didn't stop: rock kept disappearing in neat rows. I went and stood in the path of the destruction, but nothing happened to me: it just ate the rock under my feet.

I wonder whether its creator stopped to wonder whether there were any other players under that particular mountain ..?

edit: if anyone want to take a look, start at +477, +99 and climb the stairs. The process seems to have stalled at the moment, possibly because it's hit spring water ...

that so called "mountain muncher" is actually a quarry, they are a rare machine like mob, they are not hostile towards humans unless provoked. You should try and tame it with some wheat and a saddle. however keep him out of the light. He hates bright light, especially sunlight, It'll kill him. And keep him away from water, Don't get him wet. But the most important rule, the rule you can never forget. No matter how much he cries or how much he begs. never, never feed him after midnight. Got it?

I saw the Quarry in the Wiki, it says it digs a 9x9 hole by default, and it can be extended. OK, but this thing is sitting way up in the sky, almost out of sight, so I can't see what it is without a major nerd-pole climb. There's now a 50x50 hole where a mountain used to be. If I hadn't logged on today, I would have lost everything, but I moved everything to a new location in time. It's going to hit sea level in about an hour, then it'll keep going, I presume.

Still, there's an upside: for a while I got a lot of resources with minimal digging ... but who is this lazy? Kinda makes a mockery of the whole concept of Minecraft ..?

Yeah, quarries are kinda bad in the main world, you should really have to make some Mystcraft ages if you want to punch almighty holes in the landscape

Besides, that's a pretty dumb place to put one tbh :o You should really start quarrying at or just below sea level, otherwise you just dig up tons of cobble and dirt with little mineral content :p

Not everyone is playing this game at the same level. Some of us actually like interacting with the scenery, doing things that you probably find trivial, and see a mountain as more than just a big lump of rock that can be destroyed for the sake of some rare resources. That's just as true even though it's all virtual. What you're doing is the Minecraft version of strip-mining.
