My views on parking in disabled bays has been posted, people who do it without a permit are dickheads.

But if you park a motorbike in a car parking bay its annoying to me (as a car user) and just as annoying as someone using a parent and child bay without a child.

Heres the thing. We live in a society not a feudal system. Society is what has enabled us to advance beyond throwing rocks and spears at the neighbouring tribe or at people who are different to us and above needing to kill the next tribe over the hill to steal their food.
I once heard it said that if people walked the way they drive we would soon have running brawls on the streets. Vehicles give people a wonderful anonymity and bravery to be obnoxious.
Can I ask all the 'I park where I want and f8ck everyone else' brigade a few questions.
Do you hold the door open for a young mother struggling with shopping and a buggy? Sure you do.
Do you shoulder people on crutches out of your way?
Do you let (very) elderly people have a seat before you?
I could go on but I think you get my drift.
Respecting parking spaces for people with special circumstances IS THE NICE THING TO DO if nothing else.
And this tripe about 'fu8k young mothers and their brats. Its their choice to have kids' simple make you a mean twat. having kids may be a choice but it is also a pretty important one for our society. None of you would be here to park in a space needed for a cardiac patient without such a 'choice'.

Its not a car parking bay. Its a parking bay. For motorised vehicles.

Oh sorry I'd have to go back and review how I worded that. What I mean't was that a bike can be parked elsewhere (ie not in a bar parking bay) and no infringe on pedestrians.

Ok say I ride my bike into Dublin city center and need to park on the street where do you suggest I park... In a car bay?

I think the point was that you could park in a way that didn't take up a parking space and didn't infringe on pedestrians either.

Yea they're just nit picking, doesn't really bother me.

They still haven't answered me re. paying for a parking ticket if they park their bikes in a car paying bay.

One even think's he pays a road tax and that entitles him to park in a car parking bay!.

Not trying to be argumentive (and I think I extend courtesy to other road users 90% of the time), and I don't drive a bike, but park where? I don't see any "bike" spots at supermarkets, and if a private car park, they are paying for it...

Often used to park my scooter on wide paths or wide public areas in town and the like without necessary impeding pedestrians.

Fair enough, a Vespa is smaller than a motorbike but not a huge difference difference in dimensions.

It would be just great sometimes if every road user thought things through and acted in a way that benefits everybody instead of simply going round with an I'm entitled to XYZ head on them.

I think the issue here is, as you stated earlier, the bike parking is "annoying" you. Next time you see a big hairy biker parking in the "car" spot, why don't you tell him..................just let me know first so I can be there to watch the outcome

Depends on the size of the motorbike :D

There are very few parking spaces for motorbikes in Dublin so most people are left with parking on footpaths.

I can't think of a shopping center which doesn't have a bike parking area so when I see a bike in a car parking bay it really wobbles my tits.

A lot od LOLS there, what are you? ten?

On a serious note, I have never seen dedicated parking spots for motor bikes at a shopping centre.........and bear in mind ( as stated earlier) I am not, and never have been a biker, so I have never looked for one.

What's wrong with a bike in a parking bay.It carries one or two people like most cars.

No I'm a little older than ten.

You're not a biker, ok then.. Well I am, there are some pix and video of my bike this THIS THREAD

So I'm pretty well aware of parking issues when it comes to bikes, and I can not think of one shopping center which doesn't provide safe and secure parking for my bike.

There are very, very few places to safely and securely park a bike in Dublin city ~ who said you can park your bike in a 'motorised vehicle' bay? ~ check your bye-laws buddy... In Dublin (at least) motorcycles and peddle bikes are not allowed to park in a pay and display parking bay.

'Road tax' ~ there is no such thing, so whoever posted that and felt entitled to park in a car parking bay doesn't know what they're talking about.

'Big hairy biker' ~ I'm bigger, but less hairy than most.

I think you have missed my point, I am NOT anti biker, all I am saying is whats the big deal if a biker parks in a "car spot" in a shopping centre? I did not say there is no place for bikes to park, I have just never seen one (never even thought about it till now). I dunno where its going with road tax /car bay argument, I am assuming a taxed and insured bike can legally park where a car can...

I think you're taking the literal term "Road Tax" in the wrong way, and know that they meant Motor Tax, which bikes do have to pay (even if a lot don't, which boggles my mind as it's, what, €78?).

Anyway, you have a sports bike, which can be parked in a way which doesn't intrude on pedestrians, but i can't imagine it's easy for someone with a chopper or massive Harley to safely park anywhere other than a bay.

And does Dublin seriously have that by-law? Where do they expect bikers to park? I don't have one yet, but if/when i do and i take a trip to Dublin i would have parked in a bay if needed.

It annoys me because there are places to park your bike (in shopping centers), leave the bloody car bay for cars.

I remember you posted a KM thread in the Martial Arts forum, you're from Limerick?.. I don't know about Limerick bye-laws but I'd imagine they're similar enough to Dublin.. Here in Dublin its prohibited to park a motorcycle (with or without a sidecar) or a peddle bike in a pay and display parking bay ~ so no, a taxed and insured motorbike can not park where a car can (on the public street).

'Road tax?.. its actually a motor tax.

Anymore insults re. my age etc before I wrap things up?..

(btw, don't train KM ~ its BS).

    No such place.
Is it the number of wheels that bother you? Can a three wheeled Reliant park in a vehicle spot?

Yes at the moment I've a sports/tourer but I've had lots of bikes over the last 25 years.

Only problem with Harleys/Cruisers is a lot are low and you have to be careful mounting the pavement with them.

And regarding bye-laws ~ yup its all in DCC's website.

Re. handicapped spaces ~ I'd reason to use one a few years ago, I'd a particularly bad bout of gout and had to park my car as close to my gym as possible, although the staff knew and understood my pain I was very well aware that some people might have thought I as a c*nt because I'd no permit so I can't understand someone totally able bodied just not giving a f*ck.

IMO the use of the blue badge is being abused. I know of able-bodied people using badges belonging to disabled family members.

Disabled parking spaces should be for those with wheelchairs who need the extra space to get into chair.

Disabled parking is normally near or close to building entry points. Not every one with a disability always need the use of a wheelchair! A persons disability may may not be obvious yet they still have problems with mobility so no its not just for people with wheelchairs!

Now using family members badges clearly shouldn't happen and they should be fined for it.

I wasn't aware of the by laws re parking of a bike...as I said I aint a biker. So apologies on that.

So it does annoy you when people use the parent and child spaces even if they aren't with a child?

but I've no problem using those stupid ass 'Mother and child' spaces all the time.

But 'Mother and child' bays are fair game imo.

Reyansh Whining Store - Japanese for 'Ability to contradict oneself in a very few posts'.:)
Also can be used to mean 'Lack of awareness of anywhere beyond Dublin'

You said before though that anyone who uses a disabled space without a permit is a dickhead. Now you say that permit or not you were entitled to use it because you needed to use it and I assume you didnt need a badge or sign on the wall to tell you whether it was right or wrong to do so.

The primary purpose of the space is for parking. It just so happens its reserved for people with disabled permits, not every disabled person. So I dont see the difference in you using your judgement as to when you should and shouldn't use it and someone who's totally able bodied using their judgement as to when they should and shouldn't use it.

As long as nobody who actually needs to use the space is put out by using it. I dont understand how there is any wrongdoing when you can so easily ignore the fact its a reserved space for permit holders.

How will you know that a disabled person wants to use the space unless you stay beside your car?

It's not like using a disabled toilet as a disabled person can immediately draw your attention to the fact that they need to use it.

A simple analogy would be putting a lock on a disabled toilet door and wandering off for half an hour.

And I reckon if anyone took their attitude to the posters own mother if she had young kids they wouldn't round on her and tell her to suck it up for choosing to have a family.
Lets just be a teeny weeny bit altruistic
