Gonna be very interesting to see how the two CB's pan out over the course of the season. I have a feeling it'll end up being a Sakho-Toure combo.

If Toure was a few years younger, then he and Sakho would look to have all the qualities needed to be a hell of a long term pairing.

I still think Sakho -Agger will be used more often over the course of the season (assuming we stick we two CBs more often than not), but Toure-Sakho does look a pairing with more balance and with a lot more physicality.

Cannot shake the feeling though that come January, or more likely next summer, that we will again go after Papadopoulos to partner Sakho. Now that would be a very aggressive pairing with age on it's side.

They practically threw the game we beat em 5-0 as theyd the cup final a week after we played em, seeing as theres 3 days between the biggest game theyll play in the group stage they could field a mixed team again.

They wont field a mixed team IMO, but its quite possible that their minds may be on the Valencia game. Either way, its a game where if we defend well, we should be able to get a win, or at least a point. 0-0 there last season as far as I remember

    Most probably, Summer.

Reading the Schalke Forum (In Google Translate no less!), he just got back to Team Training in the last week of August. http://www.schalker-block5.de/

Most there reckon, he needs at least 2 Months to be Fit and more before he can even Play for them.

A fit Sturridge will be vital to winning at Swansea I think

He did get back to training in late August, but he had a set back with his knee during a training session.

Well I have still taken him out of my FF team for this week!

I wonder if this will see Wisdom on loan to an upper end Championship team this month, if Johnson gets back and Kelly continues to improve...

I know he had 2 Setbacks before. The 1st one happened in July where he had to fly back to Greece for additional Rehab due to the Swelling.

The 2nd one is when his Knee gave him problems during Training. Nuri posted a Pic of this.

So did he suffer another one, aside from the ones I've mentioned?

Yes which is why I said late August in my post :P It was on German radio that he got a knock to the same knee.

Not sure how serious it was, but it happened close enough to transfer deadline day.

3 Setbacks to the same Knee? That's very worrying.

Schalke probably used a Cheapo Surgeon to perform on him. Instead, they should have flown him to America, to see Dr. James Andrews.

You'll approve of him, Kess. He worked on a number of Famous Wrestlers (Dave Batista, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, John Cena, Edge, Randy Orton, and CM Punk). :D

Johnson being back earlier than expected would be a nice bonus.

I'm still intrigued to know how Rodgers intends to use the centre backs at his disposal. I really don't think that he will go to 3 centre backs on a regular basis. I'm guessing that it will be Agger and Sakho on Monday night, although if Toure is fit again, which he should be, it will be an interesting dilemma. It is hard to see where Ilori will get any real game time though, and I fear he will go the way of Coates in terms of not getting many minutes, except even worse as we don't have EL to give him any minutes. Even if we did though, he is probably 5th choice CB, with Wisdom as 6th choice right now, and that's obviously ignoring the injured Coates and also Kelly as well. Ilori as cover for RB would see him well down that pecking order too at the minute. I know, one for the future and all that, but it's a lot of money to be spending on a player that we can't really play or develop at the minute. Buying and letting him remain at Sporting would maybe have been the best thing for him if we were dead set on getting him.

Hicks, Gillett, Hodgson, Poulson. My God. I feel a bit sick thinking back.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Rodgers try Ilori at RB. Put that Usain Bolt speed to use!!
