I was at home watching Oprah Winfrey on RTE One. They interrupted it with a news flash about a plane crash.

If I had known something of historic significance was going to happen I would have made sure I was doing something more noteworthy so I'd have a more interesting story.

It was definitely a conspiracy. My theory is that it had something to do with Hitler and aliens.

Sorry to inform you but you're 12 years too late:confused:

Not if the answer was to the question... "where were you when it happened"

(But I have been trapped in the twilight zone before. ;))

There's something weird going on in this thread. Post 68 was posted at 21:09 (9/09) and post 69 was posted at 21:12 (9/12). No one posted anything at 9/11. I find this rather disturbing.

    :D

You wrote like it was happening right now.

Do you think it was a conspiracy?

No, just asleep at the wheel on the part of US leaders at the time, who didn't realize radical groups were already at war with the US and hell bent on killing innocents to advance their agenda.

Was working in Dundrum and remember trying to get online to read more but all the major websites kept crashing.

After work, I met up with a friend and we went to a pub for a drink. The place was packed, and everyone was just watching the footage on the TV but it was totally silent. Never experienced that in a packed pub before.

WWM was probably moderating back then too, seeing as what could have been a time capsule of Irish reactions as they happened was locked after just 9 pages.

    I dont miss WhiteWashMan.

I was abroad. A friend was on the 87th floor. She survived. I had no idea where my family was, all phone lines were closed down.

Fellow schoolmate was a fireman who died in it.

It's a good day to remind yourself of whom you love.

Or, in this case, could have been. 9 pages of the biggest story of the last 20 years does not a time capsule make.

I was in my kitchen baking bread and Joe Duffy was on the radio and he started talking about another paedophile priest and i lost the rag and ran to the radio and switched it off shouting ''NO MORE BAD NEWS TODAY!'' The planes had just hit as it happens but i lived in blissful ignorance (no telly, no internet) until my sister rang me at 10pm that night and said ''Well?'' and I said ''Well, what?'' and she said ''For the loving honour of Jesus, what forest are you living in?''

It was like that for about 2 weeks after if memory serves. It was crazy how affected Irish people were by events that happened hundreds of miles away

It's gas the way posters were posting what was being reported in the news, then a few days later some of the incidents turned into 'nothing to see here, move along' and were subsequently deleted from history.

Two planes hitting the pentagon, a total of 8 plane thought to be hijacked and a car bomb. There was a load of stuff that turned out to be baloney. But the BBC gal reporting that building 7 had collapsed at it stood behind her was something that really happened. I saw that myself.

I have to take my hat off to one boardsie who predicted what exactly would happen next
Will there be a Nuclear retaliation ?
I doubt it. I suspect that severl places will be bombed back to the stone age and bush will want to send troops into a couple of places to clear them out. Expect a lose of civil rights in the states and a few other countrys as a kneejerk reaction.

I was working in a bar in Dublin. I was off on September 11th 2001. The girl who was working rang me because she'd lost her bar keys, so I had to trek in to town to open up the bar for her. It was a goddamn pain in the ass. September 11th 2001, I'll never forget it.

On my way into town I met a musician I know. He said to me, "did you hear what happened?!?". For some reason, the first thing I thought of was, did Bono die?

I was over in someone's house fixing their PC, with the telly on in the background with Sky News showing. They cut to a newsflash of the first plane and we were talking about it when the second plane hit. We all looked at one another, said "Holy ****, that isn't an accident any more", and continued to watch, fascinated.
Do I think it was a conspiracy?
Do I feck. That belongs to the cuckoos, nutters, total off-the-wall loons with too much time on their hands and a chemical imbalance in their heads.

It was a sunny day in Donegal, I was literally just pulling up to the house when it came on the radio, I was only kind of half listening, but thought... Wtf...
Bounced into the house told my dad to turn the tv on, sat and watched the second plane hit in real time.... Looked like a movie!

I see people want to jump on the conspiracy theory's are for nuts bandwagon....

But the official line that was peddled did not make a whole lot of sense and the response made little more sense....

America were looking to invade Iraq for oil.... Whether or not the twin tower attacks where engineered or allowed to happen is hard to prove...

The question I ask myself is, would America go to these extremes???

America is build in oil, in order for the country to operate it needs oil on a massive scale.... The amount they use even to just mass produce food is unreal...

Let me propose the following, lets say I said we have enough food to only last 5 years after that we are all going to begin to starve....
A neighbouring nation has the resources that could stretch out our food budget for another few years....
But you operate in a community whereby you cannot simply take what you want, so you need to find a way or a reason to take it....

The twin towers was the catalyst that kick started the "war on terror"
Was this just the opportunity that America was waiting for? Or did they have a hand to play in it??

Make no mistake America have always said "they will protect the American way of life" american way of life, not human rights or the greater good...

I was 8 and in third class. I distinctly remember coming home from school , lying down on the sitting room floor with the tv on front of me and doing the "Today's/My news" portion of my homework on one of those special handwriting manuscript copies. I was learning how to do joint up writing in school and hadn't quite mastered how to do so yet so it was taking me ages to write down what was happening on the tv screen. I also remember my Dad who has now passed away standing over me explaining what the twin towers were and what was going on. I recognised even at that young age that what I was watching was quite significant, a part of history and was quite grievous and moving. I was fascinated by the whole thing really.

The peculiar thing about it that affected me, was how many people I knew of at first, second or third hand who worked in and around the WTC - all of whom survived that day. A couple of them had taken the day off, or weren't on shift; the others had been evacuated before plane two hit.
    Small world, sometimes.

Joking aside, it was an event full of sadness, but I like a bit of gallows humour.

Returned to work from breakfast at Pierre's, Terenure. Saw towers ablaze on TV - thought it was some film trailer. Then a co-worker came in and told me. The rest of the day was spent in the pub.

12 years ago tomorrow this generation's JFK shooting happened and the aftermath is still ongoing with extra security measures in airports, in countries where America went hunting for "WMD"s. and in invaded Afghanistan where they "deposed the Taliban" which had "harboured al-Qaeda"

I woke up late that day, just after noon, so I didnt see it live like a lot of people I spoke to that evening. It was Sky News and the BBC for rolling news all day as the images kept coming out and the whispers of where Ireland would start in World War 3 began. It thankfully didnt come to that of course but nothing was being ruled out in the initial few days after.

Do I think it was a conspiracy? Yes.

Ive watched countless documentaries (not Loose Change ;) ) and read up on this as much as possible and it still comes down to that thought I had when I was still half asleep switching on the TV that day:

"Why is someone demolishing the twin towers?"

I believe the twin towers and WTC 7 (a building that was never hit by a plane, yet fell at freefall speed) all came down via controlled demolition.

There is also something very off about the Pentagon attack and the crashing of Flight 93.

Tomorrow is the 9/11 anniversary. Where were you when it happened on 11/9/2001 and was it a conspiracy?

    Where were you when.....

A tsunami washed away 250,000 people in Thailand and Bangladesh and Indonesia?
Another tsunami washed away 15,000 people in Japan?
An assault on Fallujah killed 40,000 Iraqis?
Any other day in Afghanistan ...who knows how many?
Brevick slaughtered a load of kids?
    7/7?
Saudi tanks moved into Bahrain and destroyed anyone who wanted to say something?

    Diana died?
