Haven't read through this whole thread but what I'm getting is all you have to do to knock someone off the top spot is flag their ride?

    Potential for evil there methinks.
When you flag a ride, you have to give an explanation such as excessive speed (motor vehicle). (Eg. If someone takes a few KOMs while averaging 70kph during their ride and up to 120kph at times on a motorway),

    Strava will decide then.

Someone commented early in the thread on the accuracy of mobile gps... I did encounter my first glitch on Strava the other day:

What mobile are you using huey?

Galaxy S2. My GPS has been a bit iffy lately often taking a long time to lock at the start of a ride even with 8+ satellites in view; other times it locks on first attempt in a matter of seconds.

Thanks, I think it'd be good to get a general idea of which phone manufacturers generally work well for GPS cycling and which ones don't. I have a Sony Xperia Tipo (the cheapest one) which has been pretty much faultless. One of my training buddies used a Samsung Galaxy Y and could really use it, the altitude varied by over 100m over the same running route. HTC has a bad reputation for GPS but I don't know anyone who's used one.

My Tipo takes about a minute to get a GPS lock at the start of a ride, but never had a problem on a ride. Battery lasts for at least a 12 hour ride, with enough battery left for emergency texts and phonecalls.

To be honest, apart from that particular glitch, it's usually quite accurate. I do a lot of the same routes every week, and the elevations and distances are always within single-figure meters of each other at most, and the routes map to the roads mostly perfectly. The battery on my phone is absolute crap though - the phone barely lasts 12 hours of intermittent email checking, let alone using the GPS for more than a couple of hours :D Charge it to 100% at night, only to find it at 70 in the morning

I'd love to get a Garmin Zyzz. I might stretch the budget to include one when I upgrade to a new bike :D

Galaxy S4 is good on the GPS. I expected to see a kom after a ride today but because the original segment gps lock was about 10mtrs off the road, my segment never started. looking back on my segment, my gps has me right on the tar and not in the ditch ;-) like the original segment creator. Distance is right but the elevation is usually 15% less than others with the Garmins on the same ride. Probably the speed I'm going ;-)

this guy took a KOM from me a few weeks back. I commented on the ride to get a dinner was ready reply when it was obviously a car home. persisted and he eventually removed it. I didnt know about Flaging it then!
Well he did it again on the same section, and when I commented the reply was it was strong coffee after his mate suggested it. - they finished at a coffee shop and drove home.
I checked his other KOM's (not many) and other rides and it turned out he done the same on every one. nobody goes from an avg 24 to avg 55 with max speeds of 88 in kildare. he has been finishing rides and driving home with the gps on and didnt give a ****e whos segment he took. and his mates were giving him kudos. totally immature, especially for a 40+ overweight guy. No the segment were not downhill :-)
Anyway, another way to get the cheats is to inform the person they took the KOM from and let them flag it if they agree. All the guys I contacted have replied thanking me and have flagged it.
I'm going to look at his rides from time to time, but i'd rather Strava policed it. Anyone know how to put manners (long term) on him??
I said I would report him and he said go ahead. doesnt give a ****e.

Why get into a dialogue with him, just flag the rides.

I just got a ride flagged from april. This one

    http://www.strava.com/activities/48732648

It didnt say what was wrong just gave me a few options ie deleted; remove segment (which one i dont know) are say its ok.

As far as I was concerned it was ok so I ok'd it. What happens next? First time being flagged

Check there are no errors in your ride, if all is good hit ok and the ride will be re-instated :)

because most of the time it's an honest mistake. gps or app left on. they then have options to crop or ? and keep the ride recorded.
and you can only flag if you done the segment - I think.

Anyone can flag any ride for anything untoward.

You have to ride a segment to flag it as 'hazardous' (don't do this ever).

Some do gooder has decided to do this around me on every single segment on the bike paths around me.

sure some of them are not safe to ride fast on but its nice to be able to see what sort of times other people do the commute in.

In my opinion assholes dont ride like assholes because of strava so leave the segments there

Grateful if someone could clarify something for me.

If someone (ok me) screws up by leaving the garmin on and then deletes the ride does any KOM etc become deleted as well?

I only noticed something wrong when strava told me I had a KOM (two chances of that happening unless I create a segment to my door!). I deleted the ride so hope all is aok.

You can crop the ride instead using Strava.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭NeedMoreGears

Thanks RAAM - it was only a commute so I'm not pushed about keeping it anyway. The crop idea seems a good one.

    lol

Uh oh! Miroslav Kralčák just stole your KOM!

    Hey ,

You just lost your KOM on Con colbert road westbound to Miroslav Kralčák by 4 seconds.

Now get out there, have fun and be safe.

    Max Speed 184.7km/h
    Avg Speed 77.9km/h

Is there a Report Ride to Authorities button?

And to lose a kom by 4 seconds to someone with a max of 184.7km/h - I think that's okay

I would've said he'd have been better off taking the M50, but it seems he needed to zigzag through some buildings in Dublin city centre first.

Stupid question but how do I crop a ride? left garmin on yesterday coming back from Swords and hvae 3 KOM's now slightly! in excess of the limits of my ability.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,527 ✭✭✭✭Darkglasses

Select Actions on the Ride page, and crop ride is 4th down in the menu.

    Thanks
    Un KOM'ed now

Silly action but didn't download after a spin on the cross bike yesterday and then did the Louth sportif today. Have lost all the data from the spin yesterday now :( but better than having a 79kph KOM
