    Thanks
    Un KOM'ed now

Silly action but didn't download after a spin on the cross bike yesterday and then did the Louth sportif today. Have lost all the data from the spin yesterday now :( but better than having a 79kph KOM

upload it again and crop the previous days cycle, then you will have both up.

Today I received the dreaded "Oh-oh" email. I took a look and it was for a KOM that I had near Stamullen but had forgotten about. Who did I lose it to, only a chap with the user name of "Absolute Fred". This must be a result of cheating, right? Right?

He's a class rider who is on the comeback trail, no shame in losing one to him ...

Ah I know. The name is funny in conjunction with the results!

Clearly this guy is gaming the system:

    https://app.strava.com/activities/311579330/

Many exactly the same rides, on the same day, overlapping at dramatically different speeds... (with a group of riders going 14kmph slower...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 885 ✭✭✭ryan_sherlock

And just like that the speed up rides are gone...

I guess people are uploading virtual turbo trainer rides...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭Kevincavan83

I was just thinking about one segment that i was in second position.
After hearing about all the questions that were being asked i logged in and BOOM strava removed him and i've a king of the mountain award.
The fact he went up hill at 46km/hr may have raised a few eyebrows

2.5% gradient after coming around a roundabout

2.5% gradient after coming around a roundabout

Quite possible with some tailwind... depending for how long.

As I have almost all my data since I started riding on Strava (had a Garmin from the start) I have more than a couple KOMs... the amount of times I get messages and look at the ride to show the person left the iphone/garmin on in the car on the way home from a spin... About 50% of the time they notice and fix. The rest it is a flag.

Check out Kom Defender - will automatically let you know if someone gets a suspicious KOM on one of your segments. Pretty handy tool.

Ryan Sherlock flags all rides faster than him! You heard it here first folks! Giddy up Ryan!

True that, cus that ain't possible!!

(nahh, when I see a VAM of 2500 for 7 minutes I know something fishy is going on)

Out of curiosity Ryan, have you ever compared a phone ride data versus your Garmin data? It would be interesting to see what the accuracy / or +/- range is from someone that has probably more strava rides recorded than almost another living soul :-)

I took a KOM of you once, unfortunately it was the stupidest place to put a KOM (flat section through 4 lights and a right turn, the original rider took a left and hook turned it to beat the lights I imagine, normally the timing on the lights means you have to stop at the second one but I rode it at night when the light sequence changes to be straight green unless traffic triggers the sensor).

Needless to say, I had to report it, but for a fleeting moment, I had reached the pinnacle of my road career.

Know one guy who decided to report all of someone else's KOM rides out of pure spite

I have not used the phone apps much but sometimes, if I'm doing a FTP test etc... I would also turn it on in my pocket as a backup (every now and then the garmin corrupts my file). iPhone5 was reasonably close to the garmin but the iPhone6 even closer - very little between them.

Within the Garmins, the 800 series is much much better than the older 500.

Not impossible when drafting. Can you post a link to the KOM ride?

Had a trip to the Hospital two weeks ago after a crash and the guy who took my bike back in a car left the Garmin still on.

Ended up with 20 KOM's when it uploaded.... within 10 mins they were all flagged and within another 10 mins I was able to crop the file and remove it.

    Easy come easy go!

I had to flag a KOM on the Naul ascent. 900m long segment with average 5% gradient, 50kph logged.... get the boat!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,175 ✭✭✭buffalo

One of the lads in the club scored a 66kph KOM last night. I was very impressed and assumed tailwind assistance. Turns out he was in the back of an ambulance and the bike in the back of the car!

Also, what's the story with drafting - cheating or not?
