Tickle, SLP was £8.00 STG on BR (£7.00 on DVD) on amazon.co.uk earlier this week if that's any use? Just checked, still at one prices.

I know, I try not to but online though if I can help it. I know it's silly but I worked in retail, and my mum does and you can really see the impact of people shopping on line in your own sales. I'll get a look in HMV now it's open again and see what price it is. Thanks though :)

I hear you dude, I'm the same. If bricks and mortar are better or even dearer to a margin of 10% I do try and support, but sometimes it's just madness and feels like you're punishing yourself. Didn't price it (SLP) today as I bought it on amazon earlier in the week but one thing I did see that I was looking at/for was Sons of Anarchy Season 4 on blu ray. It's in the 3 for £20/5 for £30 sterling in the UK bricks and mortar HMVs with a free SOA t shirt thrown in. Standard version here with no t shirt (not that I'm bothered about the t shirt!) - €39.99.
    :confused::mad:

I would be really sad if they can't keep at least one store in Dublin open, but if they continue to profiteer in Ireland v the UK then it is inevitable they will suffer the fate of the former operation here.

^Yep, another thing I know from working in retail is that there is a huge markup on the sterling/euro exchange. I know it fluctuates so it can't be accurate all the time, and they'll blame the cost of shipping and logistics and what have you for the extra cost on things but with the internet and even people popping up to Northern Ireland for a bargain they really do need to look at their euro prices.

Although speaking of internet, I'm trying to look on HMV's website and I can't seem to navigate past the home page.

The HMV.co.uk site is only a holding page/pages at the moment. They won't be selling for a while yet - no confirmed date yet that I know of.

I'm in Belfast regularly enough and always pop in for a look in the one remaining HMV there but missed the 4 for £10 over the last few weeks :(. That said, that store is great for film (both BR and DVD) and for multi buy offers (they had a world cinema offer in the summer), but the music selection is pretty bad these days.

Oh, I just assumed the UK website was still up and running seeing as some of the stores stayed open over there.

Nope, online trading was suspended day they went into receivership into the UK. Caused me no end of pain to get a refund on an order I had in progress at the time.

I popped in there. Frankly? It's pretty miserable at the moment. Now, I'm willing to give them a bit of leeway as they pick up stock and gauge the market. But it's a whimper of a relaunch - a few offers on the same old bog standard DVDs is your lot. The world cinema section in HMV was never the most robust or varied selection, but the current section is a sad afterthought: basically the popular Artificial Eye DVDs and the same Manga releases they've been flogging for a half decade or more. The games section is also lacking at the moment, a big step down from what was easily the store's biggest asset before it closed.

All the staff are equipped with Xtravision tags, which is a strange thing to see, but guess they're going to very closely connected entities from here on out.

I hope it will improve, in fact I'd expect them to. Yes, the new release prices are more competitive compared to the rest of the city. But at the moment? It's like the old HMV, only quite a bit worse.

I think it's funny watching people complaining about hmv since it reopened for a few hours and they'll be the same lads complaining if hmv had to shut down again!

I was in there today delighted to see it back. Some great value in there especially on the 3 for €20 blurays I'll be back in to support them again real soon!

Look not being bad the shop has barely reopened 24 hours at this stage you might have gave out all you like about HMV being dear and not having what you wont to buy in the shop as with Films, CDS and video games they are huge markets and its not posable to cover all ares in one shop.

With Games i might add more and more off us are just buying the games digital EG for the PC steam and other CD key websites are the best thing ever to save your self huge money on games. With the PS4 and the Xbox One i see more people buying games digital.

At the moment they have a small games area with games costing 50 euros ok they cant have crazy offers yet as they have to wait 28 days before they can start having sales.

They done the best thing ever buy letting you using your giftcards again considering there not even the same people running HMV i will give them top marks for this

Myself i miss them hugely in Kilkenny as i used to love going every week on my lunch to have a look around HMV and LoL over how dear some stuff can be but still if i wonted to pick up something i was useably the same as what it costs online and the handiness of just going into a store and buying the item where online EG from Zavvi you might be waiting 2 weeks to get your game or Blu Ray

Like with Hillco also owning xtravison i will give them time before saying they Havant a clue to run the markets like it takes time to see what areas will make money for them and they will on these areas a lot more to try and make it better for people buying stuff off them

The best thing ever? Basic marketing and PR methinks. By giving people a chance to use the value of the vouchers, they are trying to get people back in the door who may never have bought a product again from a store bearing the HMV logo.

There is no attempt at decency in that move, and it is simply a clever move from a business pov. I would give them credit for doing it, but at the same time it is a pretty basic move and one that was expected to happen by many.

You can't just go in and spend your vouchers either, you have to send them by registered post to new HMV and wait for replacements, then spend them within a month.

From reading the posts of people who have visited the reopened HMV shop in Henry Street I have surmised that it's basically the same layout but with a poorer selection and dearer prices. How is that a recipe for success?

they obviously have some bigger twat running the stores again. Question is will they know and heed any feedback they get, before they run HMV twice as fast into the ground again.

Well considering you'd be down the full amount if they decided not to honour them it's not that bad.

I went in for a look at the Henry St. shop at 6pm,miserable selection of half empty racks of cds.the dvds and blu-rays box sets of tv series still prohibitively expensive.I can't understand why they fill the entrance as you go in with two centre aisles of stuff that's available elsewhere in the shop.filling two large wallspaces with t-shirts and vinyl seems a bit daft, can't see those items selling in quantity.bottom line I was there for half an hour on the ground floor and upstairs(didn't venture downstairs to the gaming nerds and geeks)there were about 30 people in the shop and nobody bought anything including me.unfortunately a lot of businesses not just hmv use the recession as an excuse to pay their staff the bare minimum they can get away with then wonder why they're not all whistling while they work.sure aren't they lucky to have a job in this economic climate is the managerial mindset.go into any Dublin city store where young people work e.g any of those sports shops and look how completely bored and disinterested they are.

Jesus it must be bad. I thought they'd be racking it in since they opened. Not a good sign for the future of HMV :(

I see that the Xtravision/HMV merger thing is being set up in store. THe 3 for 20 offer is now on, sadly in Galway City there seems to be all of 6 titles to choose from. Noticed a lot of the Blu-Rays have been reduced, some recent enough stuff is now 12.99. It's odd going in and not seeing Fast and Furious 4 for 20 euro. Even if the selection doesn't grow much more at least prices will start to come down and they may actually move some stock.
