Anyone know if HMV in the north get new releases on the Friday the same way as they do in the republic?

Hasn't that changed recently? Everyone gets them on a Friday now?

Amazon says Monday dates for BvS and Sing Street.

A worldwide Friday release day came in last year for music anyway, not sure about dvd/bluray.

I sometimes buy secondhand DVDs on Amazon, where they're quite often literally pennies, so you just pay postage, which means they'll be under a fiver. I'm usually after French-language DVDs.
Don't know about Amazon being decent. Good place to buy; to work, not so much so, from what I've read.
Apparently the game shop beside George's Street Arcade has DVDs downstairs.

Was in Henry st today and TBH there wasn't a lot great deals going on.

I wonder where all the unbought merch goes? Cos there's going to be tons of it.

30% off for a closing down sale seems poor

Maybe they need to get a bit of money together to pay off their unfortunate staff? Wouldn't grudge it, tbh.

I would imagine that will increase the closer it gets to closing. The Grafton street pop up for Christmas had lots of brand new blu Rays @ €5 each when they closed in Jan for example. But it's pure chance as to what will be left at that stage. If you really want something and they only have 1 or two copies of it, you're prob best to jump now at 30%.....assuming the original price isn't crazy of course....

Does anyone know which stores in the Republic are still open?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,003 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

Shame to see them go, I had a feeling it was on the cards when they didn't get Deadpool in as I would have bought the Blu-Ray from them on the Friday of release ditto with Batman Vs Superman. Oh well, it's a sad day for us oldies who used to love browsing around these big stores like the old HMV and Virgin Megastores, I'll still buy Blu-Rays and CD's from the likes of Amazon UK and US as you don't get the same extras and uncompressed sound and image on Blu-Rays not to mention the extra documentaries and director commentaries.on streaming services.

Something weird going on with the prices across the site though and I can't select a delivery option

Seems to be a problem when you reach the Free Shipping threshold

Henry St is 50% off now but they've definitely increased the prices on a lot of things to offset it. Lots of the music doesn't seem to be discounted at all.

got a one4all voucher off the job last christmas and HMV are one of the places i can use it.

got a pair of headphones for 30% off and picked up edge of tomorrow and Jurassic world for half price up in liffey valley last week.

they have Jurassic world at 13.99 though and i know ya can get it in smyths for 9.99. edge of tomorrow was 8.99 ( so 7 quid and 4.50 after discount respectively)

the selection is bottom of the barrel though. theyve obviously sold off pretty much anything decent or recent (plenty of bloody jem and the holograms though ! :D:D:D:D )

gonna go back one more time to get godzilla and im gonna get you sucka during the week. if they got what ya want that half price deal is great.

It sounds like they're just becoming an online store like iTunes or Google Play to me, not a Netflix competitor. Which is...not going to work out, considering the amount of time it'll take to support all devices and get attention.

Exactly unless they are apps for xbox, Playstation, smart tvs at launch and a massive advertising campaign along with a great promotion/cheap sub it'll be a failure

One of the main reasons Netflix is doing so well is its priced perfectly that people are willing to to keep paying every month even if you aren't using it
I often pay for for my lunch then Netflix costs

Was in their store in the crescent today, it's now 70% off. Some decent bargains.

Yeah picked up some decent Blu-Rays in Henry Street yesterday for a steal. Monsieur Verdoux and Arrow's Closely Observed Trains & Honeymoon Killers for around 20 quid total was a nice haul :)

I got those two aswell in Liffey Valley along with The Fireman's Ball and Carol Reed's The Fallen Idol. All for €30.

You might have over paid. 70% off blu rays in Dundrum at the weekend. Picked up some family facourites for between €3 and €5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,925 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

I was in the Henry Street store yesterday evening. The cheapest bargain I got there was Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa Colossal Collectors Edition for only €1.50. It contained a Blu-ray, DVD & Soundtrack CD when I opened it at home which I thought it was definitely a steal.

I got a few other Blu-rays like Hotel Transylvania 2, Saving Mr.Banks, The Amazing Spiderman 2, The Green Hornet & the Will Ferrell movie Tallgeda Nights The ballad of Ricky Bobby as well. I also got 2 other soundtracks there which were The Lady and The Tramp vintage classics from Disney & The Snowman soundtrack as my mam wanted to buy that for some reason.

The Amazing Spiderman, The Green Hornet & The Ballad of Ricky Bobby I got there went for €3 each.

70% off everything in liffey valley .

was up yesterday and their electronics section looks like a riot clearet it out :D

picked up terminator genesys, godzilla (the cranston one) and "im gonna git you sucka" and another set of headphones for 20 euro ten cent.

the headphones alone (going from 35 euro to just over 10) was worth it as i know the pair i just bought will crap out eventually and i cant see myself picking up a new pair thats worth a damn for that price.

people were buying stuff by the sack load. literally. i never thought the lad infront of me would get away from the till.

i feel sorry for the staff as its got to be close to em closing up shop for good but man the deals are great.

I wonder if people are buying stuff cheap and selling it to cex hoping to get extra cash.
