Is Gerrard carrying a kilo? ;)

He had a good game overall, that Danny "England goal machine" Welbeck is now banned for Tuesday might mean a bit of pressure is put on Sturridge if he is 50/50

Still got Lambert and Defoe so one would hope not.

Did anyone else find it odd how sky decided to run their pre match build up segment on sunday on welbeck focusing how he had already doubled his previous seasons goal tally of one goal this season yet sturridge had been scoring for fun for us since he joined and they did nothing on him? Or did i miss that part...

He was Good. Showed great awareness and understanding with his Teammates.

Aside from his Goal, he also got both the Assists for Welbeck's Goals. Those Moves by the way, were instigated by Gerrard, who rightly got the MOTM at the end.

He'll have to with Rooney, Welbeck out. Hope Sturridge doesn't play either we can't afford him to get injured.
Woy is upset on Sky with the injuries. Oh the poor crater.

Fundamentally disagree. Welbeck's been the best player under Hodgson for England by some way, with Gerrard only player near to or better than him. Shouldn't be dropped still he stops performing for England.

Sturridge is a great player, and should be playing, perhaps with Welbeck. But not at his expense.

There's enough historic wins in there to keep him happy.

Going on club form then Sturridge is streets ahead of Welbeck at the moment. I think even Utd fans would agree.

I couldn't care less about international form tbh.

I'd happily see Welbeck picked over Sturridge everytime :-)

Thats good hope Uruguay can make the play offs(the game was on far too late to check the results). Its probably been answered but to get back fitness can Suarez play with our U21's to try to get match fitness or have they scrapped using overage players.

Wouldn't think that he can play in a competitive game. Kelly is playing u21 at the moment.

Only positive im taking out of this international break is the Suarez is getting proper game time cause he looked razor sharp last night.

You can use 3 overage players in U21s

Carragher on Sakho - and playing to lefties at CB.
He arrives on Merseyside with a solid reputation and it was interesting to hear that Ian Ayre, Liverpool's managing director, described him as 'a marquee signing' - when you spend £18million on someone, you would expect they will play.

"So it will be fascinating to see how Brendan fits Sakho in. He is a left-sided central defender but Liverpool already have a very good one of those in Daniel Agger, who has succeeded me as vice-captain."

Carragher argues that Rodgers is unlikely to change his tactics, particularly when Liverpool have had such a positive start to the season, and it will be interesting to see how he fits Sakho into the line-up.

He explained: "In my experience, you can play two right-footed central defenders as a partnership - that was the case when Sami Hyypia and I played alongside each other - but I have never seen a team line up with two left-footed central defenders as a partnership.

"I would doubt that Brendan is now going to start playing 3-5-2, even though he used it at fleeting times last season, so where Sakho fits in remains to be seen."

Wellbeck has done well for England but week in week out he doesn't compare. Ronney when fit will start and IMO a fit sturridge will oust Wellbeck.

Carragher has never seen a team line up with a pair of leftie CBs in the starting XI?

He has played against teams that did so, and the most high profile such pairing at the moment is at Bayern Munich where the regular starting CBs are both lefties and the first choice back up CB is also a leftie.

Having a starting duo consisting of two lefties is unusual, and rarely seems to be as effective as a same foot pairing where both are right footed, but there are a number of current day examples that buck that trend, and certainly some high profile leftie duos from years gone by as well.

Have gone into more on this in posts in the last thread, but I would have more confidence in Sakho adapting to the RCB slot than I would of Agger doing so.

If heat maps of their play are looked at, then Sakho is the one that uses the right channels as well as the left ones, and he is also the one who when getting into attack positions will go to the right side of the box and use either foot when taking a strike on goal. Agger on the other hand is very left sided no matter what third of the pitch he ventures into, and he rarely attacks from the right side of the box.

I think that Sakho is already at Agger's level at the very least, if not a few notches above him, and that unless we go three at the back (Toure at RCB, Sakho at CB, and Agger at LCB), then I see Sakho getting the RCB slot with Agger getting the LCB slot (Possibly there may be a period where Sakho gets starts with Toure as well until Sakho is used to his new teammates)

Is a purchase that I have no worries about though. There may be some teething problems as he settles, but long term I think we have gotten ourselves a proper star. A player who will be as good in his best position as the likes of Suarez is in his.

So a Club that already has 6 RCBs (Toure, Skrtel, Wisdom, Kelly, Coates, and Ilori) versus 1 LCB (Agger), just bought another LCB (Sakho) so we can play him in RCB?

I mean, if the Transfer Committee really thought that the RCB Position was the Problem, then why didn't we just buy another RCB then?

Unless they thought that a LCB would solve the RCB Problem instead of buying our 7th RCB.

Or you know, BR could just drop Agger, play Sakho and pair him with any of our 6 RCBs.

RCB / LCB It doesn't MATTER

Agger is going to be remolded as a ball-playing CDM in Gerrard's position as Stevie's legs are getting older. Sakho will play CB when Agger moves up.
