I just don't understand the hate for GTA IV. Enjoyed every second of it and pumped countless hours in to it between the main game and TLAD/TBOGT.

I get how people can dislike it though, especially coming from GTA: SA which had tons of fun things to do.
GTA IV just seemed to lose the magic, that said I think it made up for what it lost with amazing physics and graphics improvements.
TBOGT was a massive improvement on IV again and is a standalone game IMO.

I wouldn't go so far as to say hate but it certainly seemed lacking in certain areas.

Just wasn't as fun as San Andreas tbh, losing the parachute was a stupid decision, least they put it back in TBOGT. There seemed to be hardly anything to do either, loads of money and nothing to spend it on.

Yeah the money would be my one gripe with it, so looking forward to buying properties again in GTA V. Comparing it to SA is a bit unfair though considering they had to build a whole new engine for it. I still thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the introduction of Euphoria and the living feel to the city. GTA IV was the GTA 3 of this generation, a foundation to build on for future games.

None of the games after III pushed the series/videogames in general forward the way that one did, they've just been refining that formula ever since. IV was stale but i'm more excited for the new one

Basically yeah, it was the first next gen GTA, and it was what a year after the PS3 launch? the console was still in it's infancy back then. GTAIV does look great, still does tbh. It just lacked the fun for me and nearly every mission was drive, collect, drive, avoid cops. I miss the crazyness that made GTA what it became, looks like they've injected the fun and mayhem back into V though.

No hope of getting this a day early, if anyone was expecting

Im still going to be watching for the postman like a starved pitbull on the Tuesday. Since the 16th is a Monday I wouldnt expect them to be despatched on the Friday anyway.

When buying online is the postman/parcel postman/courier that delivers?

People by no means hated it, it was a great game. Just people got bored of it.

I never completed the story line, instead i went off into multi-player and had great craic, 10 man race with all mates... fooking EPIC

    I liked GTA 4 + tbogt.

After I finished the game it was a bit boring but they seem to have sorted that with GTA 5 considering you must plan each mission, at least that keeps the excitement going.3

Take a heli up as high as you can go in GTA 4, it may be old and a bit boring but from the air the view for a computer game is very bloody impressive even by today's standards

GTA IV was the only one I've played. And I must say one of my favourite games ever.

I've said this over the past few years on here, but if GTA IV was called anything other than that, not associated by name or even company, it'd be deemed a success on a grand scale gaming wise. There is no doubt it was missing that X factor with over the top characters and missions a plenty, Brucie and Florian aside from what I recall. TBOGT went about rectifying it and did a good job.

I feel like GTA IV will be what Assassin's Creed I and III were to the games following that (ACIV I have faith in given comments from those who have played IV and hated I and III). A stepping stone if you will. We'll reap the benefits in less than two weeks time.

I'll honestly never understand the criticism over the driving in IV in this forum, it was near on perfect in my honest opinion. Racing, especially online was damn fun if you were in a full lobby. Admittedly I'm a tad worried about it becoming that bit more arcadey in V and till I get my hands on it myself, those doubts will be in the back of my minds worrying me.

After dissing IV on this thread I decided to reinstall as I'd never actually finished it.
I've over 50% completed in the past week and while its not the worst game I've ever played, it is getting quite repetitive. The driving is quite enjoyable although it could handle a bit better on the turns there is far to much drifting for my liking.

The setting is cool, it doesn't get old driving over the big bridges between the islands. I've just unlocked the third island so can't really comment on it but like the differences between the first 2 islands.

The soundtrack is probably the biggest let down. There doesn't seem to be any stand out tracks, certainly nothing I can think of off the top of my head and Lazlos station is just not as funny as in the previous instalments.

As has been said above there just isn't enough to do or at least not enough variation. I've no interest in the friend/girlfriend part of the game and have largely ignored it, although I did try to get Niko a boyfriend to see what would happen there, but just got called a fag.

I can kind of compare GTA4 to Metal gear solid 4 inso far as, the developers went from developing for the PS2 to the next gen where they could add in loads of 'cool' stuff like mobile phones and little robots on wheels and forgot to make the games fun.

I'll definitely be finishing it but won't be going back to get the trophy for finishing the main story in under 30 hours.

I'm sure the article writer will be made promise not to release anything too spoilery - heck, rock* prob won't even show them anything to that nature...seeing a little bit more game play videos\hands on review of types of missions is something I'm really looking forward to.

Unfortunately if you have only unlocked the third island your only 30 odd percent of the way through man. I find it very repetitive even the driving is boring me I now get taxis everywhere I'm also disappointed by the fact I'm nearly a millionaire and apart from food and guns I can't buy anything.....

I've completed the drug drops and races and acquired all the cars/bikes through the Internet shop so that contributed to my %. It's actually quite disheartening to read that you reckon I still have loads left to do.
