This must have passed me by, what game was this? Any footage about?

Downing scored.....that should narrow it right down :pac:

Wasn't Downing bought for his ability to put balls into wheelie bins? :P

his trial must have went well then.

    2h6uerk.jpg
His name is Rafael Paez, and is currently on trial at Liverpool from Spanish giants Real Madrid. He is just 18 years of age and is a centre-back, but like many talented centre-backs, he can adapt and can play as a full-back when he is required to do so. Paez has been at Real Madrid since 2009 after a 3 year spell at Hercules, progressing up each youth side and is playing for Real Madrid’s ‘A’ side in 2013. Born in Alicante in Spain, Paez’s main feature is his height, as he is a towering 192cm and therefore uses his height to his advantage both offensively and defensively. This is the least people expect from Paez after his father, also called Rafael Paez, was a Spanish triple jump athlete.

With his height comes strength and he often can shield the ball and stop players getting past him very well. His favourite player and his idol is current Real Madrid defender Pepe, so that is part of an explanation as to why Paez is so strong. However, his height also has disadvantages. He is not the quickest centre-back to play for Liverpool but unlike many young, ambitious centre- backs, he realises this and will give himself an extra yard when marking defenders so that if a ball is played over the top of the defence, he will have a chance of beating an attacking to it.

Now we know who Paez is, will he fit into the youth system at Liverpool? Well, his attributes have certainly sold himself as a promising player with him being tall, strong and intelligent. Also, he has won major honours in his short career, winning the Youth version of the Copa Del Rey earlier this year. During his two games with the Reds, Paez did what he needed to do, helping the team keep clean sheets in both of their games and also creating chances offensively, testing Hearts ‘keeper Jamie Macdonald in the first half of the game. Paez seems to be a victim of his own success and the Reds are hesitant to sign him because he may halt the progress of Lloyd Jones and Kristof Polgar’s career, after Jones just signed a professional contract with the club and Polgar is now an Academy scholar.

Personally, I think Paez would be a great addition to the Under 21 line up, working alongside Stephen Sama, especially since Andre Wisdom looks to be going out on loan and Jon Flanagan seems to be off to Derby County.

    Rafa , Rafael

    Rafael Paaaaaaaez

Adam cost little compared to others, under £7m iirc and we got back £4m.

Should never have been signed but as mistakes go, he was far from the worst.

Also the way we set up never suited him.

Remember him in a 2 man midfield?

He had wee Jay alongside him though.

He was the least expensive failure but he was the worst player by some margin.
Awful rubbish. Even if he had been free it would've been a terrible signing.

Oh yeah, Adam 'created a chance' every 38 minutes. No small surprise given that Blackpool's only move was to play through him.

If it had only been Henry responsible you could say, "ah well, now he knows things are a bit more complicated".

It's astonishing how people with even a rudimentary understanding of football could've been so ignorant, nevermind a bloody director of football.

Overriding memory of him (Adam= was how slow he was, how off the pace he was and how often he seemed to be giving in fouls in bad positions.

Adam was never going to last long once Lucas got injured.

Good to see the club have taken Daniel Sturrigde back to administer our own treatment he could still play for the england team but it's good to see the club want to be in full control . I think it could be a case of send him back to us and we will just say he is injured and won't take any part in the games .

Could care less about England so I hope he misses the Ukraine game too.

Adorjan just scored for Hungary in their 4-1 rout of Bosnia Herzegovina. He came on at half time and changed the game. In his last year, he has seemed to average a goal every game.

    Sign more kids! :D

We'll have players banging them in from all angles for all nations before soon, indeed Yesil would be leading the line for Germany if he were not crooked.

I meant that I was just mentally fatigued after only arriving home from work, so could not begin to start thinking of what goals Stewy D got even if they were as rare as rocking horse droppings!!

Not sure what you mean about the Arsenal thread, I haven't been on it that's fo sho.

i can see Sakho & Suarez having some duels in training

My overriding memory was seeing footage of the team coming out of the dressing room and he had a massive spare tyre. F*ck that. Some joke.

He was at the centre of so much good play for Spain. His mobility was fantastic. He was basically unmarkable, popping up all over the pitch, playing little neat balls through the defence or over the top - instigating most of the Spanish attacks. It was real Barcelona, tiki-taka football. I think because he's been at Liverpool so long, we forget that he's only 19. A player like him without fantastic athletic attributes is going to need time to find his place in the team and develop his game. If anything, even as Liverpool fans, we under rate the player.

Another point. Muniain played on the opposite wing to Suso tonight. I know a lot of folks on this forum have been raving about him, but to be honest, Suso was the better player tonight. Yet it was Muniain who everyone was salivating over when he was linked to us in a £20M move. Food for thought there.
