Why is the transfer window closing in Scotland tonight. Has anyone at the SFA been asked for an explanation?

sfa treats saturday as a working day and I think there is some loophole to be covered in the sevco embargo

That's what I read elsewhere but I haven't seen an official explanation from the SFA.

Not the best for Celtic anyway, I'd hope we come out of each transfer window a little stronger but that hasn't happened this time.

It's disappointing but hopefully we'll learn from it

We really needed a good defender, unless our defence makes a huge improvement we are gonna concede a lot.

Ambrose dwells on the ball too much and a cock up like the juve game always looks on.

Virgil looks great on the ball and can step out if defence which will help us in the SPL but look at his positioning for SK's second goal, I'm praying that was a once off.

    Mouyokolo looks dodge so far.

I'm hoping for the kelvin Wilson affect and the the 2 new boys just need a little time to settle but right now I'm not very confident

Think we can still sign free agents. That being said there not free agents for nothing.

Overall a wee bit dssapointed we didnt add another player or two.

Looks like Lustig's injury isnt serious, he's travelling with the Sweden squad

Shouldn't have happened when we didn't get in more strikers. We are woefully short in that department. Stokes, Balde and Pikku are the only strikers we have now. Atajic is around as well but I haven't seen much of him and they're talking about loaning him out too. Lenny will end up playing Samaras up front a lot even though he and everybody else knows he's no good through the middle up front, he is only good in wide positions.

If we can get someone for free who has been released we should, just to have a striker available if needed. We will need to be very lucky regarding injuries.

We should have kept Watt in the circumstances, he would definitely played a lot of SPL games this season if he was around.

What type of striker is Pikku? I watch Schalke a few times a season but can't remember this guy at all.

He wasn't a regular starter for Shalke, I don't think he's the out and out striker we needed to replace Hooper, but he'll be asked to fill that role. Celtic have had a very bad transfer window. The SFA closing it early didn't help either, probably would have made a couple of signings today if the window was still open, but that's no excuse for Lennon being left very short in different areas of the squad.

Shane Long going to Hull? for £5 million, we should have bought him.

He no more clinical than Pukki. If he wasnt Irish, there wouldnt be a word said about him.

If Pukki is as good a striker as Long I'll be reasonably happy with his signing.

You're not setting the bar very high, Long isnt a good striker and certainly not good enough for Celtic.

Agreed. I'd have him ahead of Doyle alright, but he's still terrible in front of goal. If Stokes knuckled down he'd be ahead of Long in the Irish setup.

Long is the best Ireland has now that Robbie Keane is nearing the end of his career. He's good at leading the line. A different type to Keane and a different type to Hooper, but Pukki isn't a clinical finisher type either or hasn't been up 'til now judging by his stats.

Everton are now trying to sign Long as well, would rather see him go there than to Hull.

Seriously? He's plenty good enough for Celtic.

Longs standing in the Irish setup doesnt matter. His goalscoring record is poor and he's done well to get the contracts he has gotten because he is a dedicated athlete but a limited footballer.

No, he's not. Tell me what he offers Celtic that they dont already have in spades?

We've already had enough lads that chase every ball but can't finish when the chances fall their way.

He's better than you're giving him credit for, you're underating him if anything. It's not his fault he's from Tipp, accident of birth;)

He's not coming here anyway, moot point.

He's definitely better than what you give him credit for, he got the contracts because he impressed at Reading, and while his form was off a bit last few months, it wasn't too long ago he was being linked to Spurs etc.

He's well good enough for Celtic. I don't really know what level you think Celtic are at every week by saying that. That's not meant as offence either.

And now he's going to Hull, he was never prolific or clinical enough. The like of him and Doyle are found badly wanting at the highest level. Strikers like Long are dime a dozen in Britain and he offers Celtic nothing we dont already have and we have that type of player for alot cheaper.

Celtic are looking for players that can make an impact in the UCL, being slightly better than the rest of the SPL is not the benchmark. If we were going to splash the cash i.e. £5m+, it would be for Finnbogason, a far superior striker.

I didn't think ye had too many pacy strikers? I still think he's better than you think. Agreed on Finnbogason though, he is a better striker, but he could do better than Celtic IMO.

It's way more interesting when the Scottish deadline is just after the English and we have a chance of picking up some players who didn't get their last minute moves.

I prefer it like that.. as far as I know the January window falls like that again

We could have gotten Buttner now that Coentrao went to United

James McCarthy going to Everton for ~£13m, another round of applause for Tony Mowbray & Peter Lawwell!! Sweet Payday for the Accies

Shane Long must feel left out in the lurch by Clarke & WBA now.
