Alex Turner would probably be my nomination for a current one.

Morrissey was a great frontman with The Smiths, just a massive bellend on his own.

I agree when Moz was with the Smiths was at his best as great front man. Saw him live as a solo artist ....he still puts on a great show.

He's a bit of a tool in interviews though....but who cares when he's singing a few Smiths numbers.

Chrissie Hynde would be a great frontman too, but she is missing one small thing.

For me , it has to be Axl Rose.Yes he was mental but his eccentricities made him one of the best lead singers and entertainers ever .
Any other performers worthy of the title??

I saw him. A fat dickhead that showed up an hour and a half late, walked off twice for periods of up to a half hour and when forced back on stage sang with his back to the crowd or shaking his head in disgust the fat dumb mean cunt. Greatest frontman? Are you 14 and brain damaged?

Bruce Springsteen, if you want to count him as front man of the E Street Band.

Phil Lynott, never saw him live but those who did swore by him.

Rory Gallagher, had an amazing presence on stage, a true master with a huge amount of respect.

Shane McGowan always had a certain presence as well, always gave a great show in fairness.

I'm only a young 'un, but I can't disagree, those probably are the best.

Kurt Cobain would be my favourite frontman though.

We have a winner! But the title said "band" frontman...

ditto Stevie Nicks and Debbie Harry. Filthy voices on them.

For me Freddie Mercury. Axl Rose was brilliant too and a great songwriter. Bruce Dickinson has a brilliant voice.

To be controversial, I prefer Brian Johnson to Bon Scott but both quality front men.

Brian Johnson is a great replacement, no arguments here.

    Bon Scott was AC/DC though.

Axl is/was fantastic depending on your opinion. Had a great voice, brilliant energy on stage and really got the crowd going.
Freddie was all of the above, minus the unpredictability of will he won't he show up, can he sing tonight, and always gave his all.
bon Scott, great voice, excellent innuendo, although the front man job was kind of shared by Angus.
I cant put a guitar player as the best front man as they are limited in their movements, but hetfield does a good job.
Id have to go with Freddie. Though I would like to see axl rose with myles Kennedy s voice now!!

Jim morrison would have to be up there. Came across as a bit of a dick on occasion but definitely had presence and he became the show

Michael Hutchence - he just radiated sex on the stage.

But Freddie Mercury overall - amazing!
