Same here im dying to go into HMV and blow a few quid get sucked in by the 3 blu ray deals, and picking up one or two bargains and just browsing around missed it something fierce.

You know, I always try to support Irish businesses and shop locally and what not but after being in Tower Records a few times since HMV closed I cannot wait for it to reopen. I don't care if it's not coming back locally. Tower Records is such a rip off, especially for DVD's. €20 for one DVD is ridiculous. I miss the 3 for €30 deals that HMV used to do. It's a wonder Tower records does any business at all.

I'm told the hipster dudes and gals love it. I'd say I've ought 10 things in Tower in 10 years, great selection (ESP. World Cinema DVD and BRs) but crazy prices.....

The one above Eason's on O'Connell St. is okay but the one on Wicklow Street is almost intimidating. I feel like I'm being judged anytime I buy anything. They do have a great DVD selection though, on Wicklow St. that is.

Getting into specifics now, anyone with an idea of wheat time the Henry Street branch is opening at on Friday?

Any word on any opening day specials on? I notice HMV in the UK have an amazing deal on at the moment - four blu-rays for £10 including boxsets such as Boardwalk Empire, 24, Luck, Entourage, The Dark Knight Trilogy. Would be great to see a similar deal here. I presume the 5 blu-rays for €35 will be back.

From reading the press release regarding the Xtravision/HMV stores it looks as if there may be more than a just a few posters. Would be nice to see the Xtravision aspect being just the DVD, Blu and Game rentals with the rest of the shop being dedicated to selling of the same stuff only with HMV pricing and selection. You could easily fit the average HMV Blu-Ray stock across two big shelving units and it would be great as last time I was in Xtravision in Galway there was no more than 30 Blus for sale.

Cork city centre could do with an Xtravision and HMV store

There is a lot of HMV shelving and signage in an old unused unit at scotch hall in Drogheda.
    Happy days :D

Are you sure? Liffey Valley was meant to be opening this Saturday. Same for Limerick. Dundrum was the only one that was next week. Wonder what the delay is at this late stage to push it back again?

They tweeted it earlier today. Prior to this they were claiming no set date.

On a day off so went in for a look. Was there for 9am. Only offers of substance I can see we're Love-Hate Seasons 1-3 box set for €14.99 and some blu ray players (at least I assume they were blu ray players, may have been DVD players) reduced - didn't get the price on same. Was Christmas Eve style busy, can't see that lasting!

Store wise, big emphasis on vinyl and t shirts. Poor tech section though and not a gamer so didn't look there. Re. CDs and BR/DVDs, typical fare, lots of chart and poor (by comparison to "old" HMV) back catalogue selection. All that said, really glad to see it back and hope it works!

I think their default pricing for everything is 6.99.......
I did get ice age 3 (for my niece) for 1 euro, they also had despicable me for 2.99.

New releases wise they had pitch perfect for 6.99 and the impossible for 5.99. There seemed to be plenty of the love hate box sets (wouldnt interest me).
I did get a boxset with moon, district 9 and knowing (i know its crap) for 6.99.

Yeah was surprised at how much pricing seemed to be "similar".

With the 4 for £10 deals hillco (new HMV owners) ran in the UK over the last few weeks (bonkers deals for anyone lucky to get a sniff of them) I was hoping they might save some of that stock for the Irish re-launch, but alas no. Such a shame as it would have gotten them tonnes of publicity.

Re. Knowing....I saw it in the cinema, that's 2 hours and €20+ I'll never get back!

Still not bad value though I suppose.

I know about knowing and I agree..but district 9 is excellent and heard moon is great so 6.99 not too bad

Hugely disappointing tbh. The prices overall are ridiculous for DVDs and Blurays and appear to be more expensive than previously. Alot of older DVDs that used to be a fiver prior to closing are now €6.99. The sheer amount of dvds at €6.99 when they should be €3.99 at most is ridiculous. The 3 for €20 Blu-ray selection was very poor as well. Obviously you can get better value on Amazon in their 2 for £10 Bluray offer but I would be willing to pay the extra to support HMV and to get it there and then but didn't see anything worth getting. I went in expecting to go on a spending spree and came out with nothing. The Love Hate boxset is the best value I came across but I already own the first two seasons. Some of the new releases in particular were ludicrously priced - House Of Cards for example was €44.99. As previously mentioned why are we not getting any of the brilliant deals that the UK are - you would think they would at least have them for the opening day.

Maybe they figured the excitement of reopening would be enough to get people in the door and they didn't need to do any big special offers. Perhaps save them for a few weeks down the road when the novelty of them being back has worn off.

Whatever the prices are they can't be as bad as Tower. I've been wanting to get Silver Linings Playbook for my mum for ages but it's still €20 in Tower.

Tickle, SLP was £8.00 STG on BR (£7.00 on DVD) on amazon.co.uk earlier this week if that's any use? Just checked, still at those prices.
