Just saw that MKBHD had mentioned it on Facebook so I took a look for myself. Something's imminent...

Haven't heard of that until now, does this mean the new nexus 4or5 is imminent? Hopefully noone ordered one in the last week before it dropped in price,i wouldn't be happy :D

Check the other thread. They have but from Amazon due to Flubit not accepting links from anywhere anymore. It's a pity because those prices won't be reflected elsewhere for a bit, and I hope I'm wrong about that.

I suppose it'll be back to the old tricks of attempting to fool Google in order to get the knocked-down device because that's a substantial enough saving for some and even if you had the money to wipe your arse with, for me, I know I'd feel pretty ripped off if I had to settle for paying the old price right now on Amazon, et al.

Oh, Flubit, please go back to the ways of old...or someone else, please take over where they left off. Or Google, get with the programme and start selling devices in Ireland!

This definitely is showing signs that the device is about to get replaced. Why else would they make this move? But a new Nexus could still be 2-3 months out.

    Typical...

3 days after I get my missus a Jiayu, I would have got her a N4 instead for that money....

    :-(

Anybody had any look getting 4g on their nexus 4?

It says it works on some us carriers, just wondering will it work here on 3?

It works on some of US T-Mobile's network, I think, which uses a different band completely than the Irish networks have bid for, purchased, and will use.

+1 on what DECEiFER said above. The Irish MNOs are rolling out LTE on 800 and 1800MHz at present, not on 1700 (Band 4) which this hack refers to.

Thanks for clearing that up.Not a deal breaker for me anyway.Got wifi at home and don't use a huge amount of data outside.

I've read in the paper that 3. "4G" will need a new Sim card. So I don't think it will work even if it's testing now.

Hey lads, gf dropped her phone. Fell about 6 inches but even with the bumpber on, it has a small crack and now none of the buttons at the bottom work like the Back, Home and screenshot? buttons along the bottom. These buttons work fine if I turn the phone on it's side and they move to the other end.

Opened facebook and put on it's side so the top left of FB , the button with lines that brings up a menu, is by the crack and that doesn't work either.

Anyone have any idea if a phone shop can fix this or any home made fixes?

    Ataached a pic. Thanks!

I'm no expert but could the digitizer be broken in some spots? You can get a full assembly for €73 + VAT as mentioned on one of the last few pages, with a link.

But wait for others to chime in as I'm not an expert on this sort of stuff.

Crap, thanks man, lots of info about it on the last page :o

I see the price on the phones has dropped, pain in the arse getting it into Ireland in the first place but looks like it will be an expensive fix

8GB model was £239 and is now £159
16GB model was £279 and is now £199

You could do it yourself. There's a video to show you how on the product page for the digitizer + screen assembly. Else, someone mentioned €100 with a company over here, again on the last few pages.

Yeah thats a great vid alright. Checking with a phone repair shop. Will go down the self help route if the quote is too big. Thanks man.

No problem. And as said, replacing the glass without the digitizer is a bad idea given that the glass is thinner and the distance between the two is smaller with all this new technology to bring the digitizer closer to the hand. So even if my "diagnosis" is wrong about the digitizer being partially broken, you'd still be better off going down this route.

I'm a bit disturbed that a 6 inch drop could damage more than the glass. It's a good thing you posted here about it.

yeah, really surprised, we both had Galaxy Aces before and both took batterings without even a scratch. Is the digitizer just all the stuff on the back of the glass?

Like, does this link show the glass and digitizer I would need?

Yeah, that's right. It's what converts your touch to an input.

I'd say it's just bad luck, or it hit at the worst possible angle. I've dropped mine loads on to all kinds of surfaces and its fine apart from a few dents on the chrome part. The only protection I have is a D-brand skin on the back.

That screen and digitizer is going for over 120 quid on ebay where it's just 74 on the that LG spares site. Looks like I will be going down the self help route anyway, just up I don't bollix up the phone :)

90 incl delivery but still better than ebay.

Apologies for the dumbass question but is it possible to buy the Nexus 4 from the googleplay uk site and have it shipped to Ireland via Parcel Motel? Has anyone successfully used any tricks to do this please ;)

If the n5 is due soon... I'd be tempted to sell my n4 and buy one, explaining the weak battery issues in-depth to sooth my guilty conscience. I wonder what I'd get for one that gets about 20h of very light use...

I reckon the battery issue is down to 4.3. My N4 or N7 isn't suffering but I'm seeing the N10 showing much worse battery drain in standby since the upgrade. I'm wondering whether its down to a particular app on one device. The N4 battery still lasts much longer than the iPhone 5, hopefully Google will get it sorted as under 4.2 battery life was seriously impressive.

Nah, this just happened one day out of the blue and never really recovered. It was on 4.2 at the time.

    Hi Guys,

by coincidence I ordered a Galaxy S4 yesterday - this morning I see the Nexus 4 has dropped in price and I've ordered one too - delivery 10 Sept.

So do I send back the S4 (unopened!) or cancel the Nexus 4 order?

    - Galaxy S4 €199 up front and 31.99 a month * 24 (with Meteor)
    - Nexus 4 £ 205 all in so about €240 - and say €20 a month for a slightly older phone but without Samsung bloatware

    Thoughts?

    thanks

You're going to get biased opinions in here (including mine) but I would go with the N4. Having no contract is great, you can jump to the latest and greatest prepay deal anytime you want. I'm on three's €20 a month deal, the unlimited data is handy.

The Nexus is really well built and good looking and performance between the two would be very similar, apart from touchwiz clogging things up.

Also quick updates from Google, all of us in here are on 4.3 already. TBH I can't think of a single reason you would go with the Samsung, it might have better resale value because it's newer but you'll pay that much extra in the contract anyway.

I emailed them man and they got back to me with the €100 quid price (also on the docket they gave me).

Hey, just wondering how long it took you to get a reply to your email?

I emailed the Limerick store direct yesterday morning and still have no fooking reply from them

Would I be better off using the webform on the website to contact them, rather than mailing my local store directly? :)

I emailed using the link below man not the individual shop http://www.fonemenders.ie/contact/new-customer.php

They got back to me the next day with the quote, when I went into the shop the guy in there quoted me the same.

Got a text off them yesterday saying order has been placed and that it should take 5-10 working days depending on delivery of the part from LG

Apologies if already discussed but has anyone else noticed a reduced quality in photo shots since updating to 4.3? Mine are constantly blurry since I got the update.
