The ending in in Bruges really upset me for some reason.the end of planes, trains and automobiles.
The ending in Pan's Labyrinth cut me up to no end too,Jesus I had to reach for a naggin after that.

Ya have to agree there, pans labyrinth is very sad, the music is quite haunting/beautiful and fits the fantasy/gothic style of the film really well, adds to the feeling of it all.
The end of castaway always gets me. Tom Hanks by himself on an island for 3 years, gets back and his fiancé has since settled down and has kids. Life just ain't fair is it?

When you see Dookie shooting up in the montage at the end of The Wire.

Last of the Mochicans when the Indian tries to rescue the girl and gets thrown off the cliff, she jumps over a few mins later.

Dances with Wolves when the wolf that befriends Kevin Costners character is shot.

Battlestar Galactica. It actually had a great ending but I loved the series so much that I was just sad to see it end.

I think I even rate this show higher than The Wire. Its one of my favourite things of any medium ever.

The Wire stirred my mind, but BSG stirred my heart too.

I honestly don't think I've ever being so satisfied/wowed/heartbroken with the ending of a tv series.
In context what happens is perfectly understandable and the first time it obvious to me, they were simply worn out, PTSD, simply wanted to live their lives out as peacefully as they could with the time they had left. Earth was an explosion of color when they arrived, the contrast between their nightmare in these claustophobic spaceships and their new world was so stark. I was pretty convinced that they shot all of Earth on location in Africa, it was beautiful, I think that was one of the things that made it worthwhile, they deserved it. So bittersweet
. It was a show that really made you feel were on this incredibly harrowing, emotional journey with these people who lost everything. The tone is pitch perfect, dark but ultimately hopeful. It just got me in a few things have ever had.

It was a sci fi -drama who's characters felt more genuinely real 99% than of supposed realistic movies/tv out there, when stuff happened in this show it mattered, everything was delivered with a gravitas that made me sit up. Never was so attached to a group of actors/characters before.

The heavy use of practical sets reminded me of the Star Wars OT, strong iconic characters, and amazing continuity and depiction of space travel i.e ships wearing down over time. I won't see anything like it for a very, very long time.

Just an incredible exploration of human nature.

You understood were all characters (good and bad) were coming and agreed and disagreed with them in equal measure.

Plenty of questions, plenty of grey, no easy answers.

Plus the goddam music. Bear McCreary needs to be doing blockbusters, its a crime he isn't at the moment

Just try, I don't know who a friend who hasn't said : "Its nothing like what I expected"

Shane + family in The Shield

Actually I found Vic's ending very sad... yeah you can say he got what he deserved really but the guy lost 2 families (his wife and kids and his team/the PD) and you can really see it finally all sink in as he sits alone in his cubicle.

Then they went and topped it with a fantastic montage and song

I miss that show.. definitely one of the best I've ever watched!

I know a lot of you slated him here recently but watch ricky gervais as Derek in the last episode. The entire cast gave brilliant performances - truly emotional piece of television.

Was the one episode i had to delete from my sky box - couldn't watch it again.

Also in extras when he gives the speech to the camera from the big brother house and he directs the dialogue to Maggie who is watching it - i definitely had something in my eye that time.;)

Let us not forget about poor auld Lemansky a few seasons before that.

I just didn't want to go to Mexico!

EDIT: @Kaiser2000, I have rewatched the entire thing a stupid number of times and not once have I ever not enjoyed it thoroughly.

    Angel

Yeah the ending of Angel was quite sad but also quite rousing.

The 'do you want me to lie to you now?' death scene get's me everytime... also never knowing if everyone else was going to die as they charge against the armies of hell...
Battlestar Galactica. It actually had a great ending but I loved the series so much that I was just sad to see it end.

Yeah, I like how some things were just left for you to guess like Apollo and Starbucks final scene... and then it's just him talking to himself:o

It wrapped everything up nicely even if there were quite a few coincidences but the show always had strong references to fate so it didn't bother me. Apparently some fans didn't like the ending.

absolutely agree regarding BSG and it's ending. Even now after third time of watching I still find the emotions are raw.

Also cant keep it together when watching B5 series when Sherdian dies either.

In Hollyoaks a few years ago where Sarah Barnes died the way her parachute didn't open and she just fell it was so sad to watch.

Completely agree.. I've watched it 3 times end to end and found bits I'd missed previously. Such a fantastic show with not only a great core cast, but some epic guests (Forest Whitaker/Kavanaugh, Glenn Close/Monica Rawlings, Anthony Anderson/Antwon Mitchell).

I tried The Wire after this and gave up after a few episodes.. didn't do anything for me - whereas the first few minutes of The Shield really grab you and reel you in.

May have to watch it again soon :)

    +1,000,000 on Blackadder Goes Forth

The switch in mood from what had been hilarious farce throughout the series, the subtle fact that Blackadder spokely nicely even to Baldrick in the final interaction - everything to that final scene was a huge emotional punch in the gut.

For me it has to be:

    Prison Break
when Michael is dead and you see Sarah and their kid and Linc and LJ at his grave.

    and

    Charmed
when they are all grown up and have their families after everything they've been through.

When Tony Soprano got shot while sitting in the diner with his family.

Really. Even though that didn't actually happen

The Boy in the striped Pyjamas..

I'd read the book first and knew what was coming up, but during the build up to the boys deaths I couldn't look at the screen and I don't mind admitting it ~ it broke my heart.

I recommend anybody try Friday Night Lights if you liked BSG.

Coach Taylor reminds me of William Adama in a lot of ways. Strong male role model archetype and all. As much as like I like Breaking Bad, the amount of anti heros on tv can be a slightly overbearing at times!

Tv series:Band of Brothers, the part at the end when cpt.Winters is talking about when his grandson asked him was he a war hero.......choke up everytime watching that.

Breaking Bad, when the wife shoots Walt and elopes with Jessie.

I think you'll find that Hank and Jessie spit roasted skyler after defeating Walt Junior and Skyler in a tag team cage match.

Why else do you think walter bought that big f**k off machine gun

For a cartoon: All Dogs Go To Heaven, still get a lump in my throat. That film is too sad for children!

The sopranos was a sad ending.

Purely on the basis that it was so horrifically sh1t

Really. Even though that didn't actually happen

Yes it did, just off-camera - that's what the abrupt cut to black is all about - full explanation here

    Joan of Arcadia.

Everything that had happened throughout the entire show was all in her head, she'd been having hallucinations because of a brain tumour.

    No mention of Dinosaurs yet?
A relatively light hearted comedy show ending with everyone about to die :(

I loved the ending to Lost too. Thought it was a perfect way to end it though loads of my mates hated the way it finished

It was a beautiful ending alright, but it rendered the previous 6 years of the show totally pointless.

It turned out it was just 6 seasons of random episodes which meant absolutely nothing.

"Just off camera". The second coming of Christ could have happened off camera for all you know.

"so we figured we'd have a pop at making sense of it......."

The second line. I stopped reading after this sentence.

It's not like these people know any better than anyone else is it?
