Rescanned the emptieds. bloody cows were only a few days short of being able to being read as in calf. The majority proved as incalf. so ended up with a 95% incalf rate. Only problem being the mean calving date has slipped well.

WHY where they wild? just wondering is it breeding , what are there mothers like?

There is no good reason why the lightest heifer was wild. She was from a heifer that we bred ourselves who proved incalf, and from day one the calf was wired.
The second one takes after her mammy. Though the cow is not that bad there always was a streak in her.
Coincidently both dams are Limx cows. The later calves would have gotten much less handling too than the calves wintered inside in the shed, where the lie back area is great for socialising!

local mechanic does a conversion to hydrostatic steering for around 500 quid I think. but that sounds too cheap for the work involved so maybe my figure is wrong. it feather light after the work he does though

And this system is much much better especially if it is a cross between a DB system and the MF one.

Wouldn't have thought there would be that much difference between a 188 and a 165 when it comes to bales.

There's a bitch of a second calver here with a sore front leg (probably a drop). She had a similar problem back in the spring. When I went to put the rope on her front leg to lift it she kicked me in the ribs, arm(wrist) and just under the eye through three bars of a crush. I'm not looking forward to dealing with her at all:eek:. She's empty and the second worst EBI in the place not to mention contrary difficult to handle and a crap milker. no matter what the oul boy thinks she's not long for this mortal coil:D.

Purebred not an issue. The most highly bred animal in the place would flatten you with a puck messing when walking out of the field if you weren't watching for her. Plenty of our girls will stand in the yard or the field for a vet exam as long as they weren't getting something stuck in them.

At least you got plenty of reasons to flog her on freedom :p, I've two ladies here who are just about tolerable, very hard to dose/handle etc, and really don't like their spins being washed/stripped etc in the parlour. Both are spring calvers, milk well, and went back in calf, so will be staying put for another year at least!

The girl I was talking about would just be looking for her ears scratched and she'd land you if she didn't get it just to get your attention.

Went to the game last night, Galway were shocking bad I thought! Antrim beating Wexford must be the upset of the year.

That's what they said about Galway and Limerick seniors against Clare.
Same said about Tipp and Galway u21's against Clare.
Hopefully the reality is, Clare make good teams, play way below their potential.
Banner doing a serious amount of work when they don't have the ball. Makes it very tough going for the opposition!

I heard from someone at the match that a lot of the senior players looked very tired. A good rest now for the next 2 weeks.

brought kids up to silage fields, spent an hour kicking ball and having races over the rows of grass, great crack and free

In fairness there damp I dont think the Clare lads ever got into full flight last night. Kelly, Galvin and podge had a fairly quiet game and thankfully them came through it injury free. I was actually talking to one of the lads on the u21 panel yesterday morning in the co-op and he said to me that Galway were very poor and they had hammered them in a few challenge matches earlier in the year. Theres no doubting we have the best generation of hurlers the county has ever seen but galway were still very bad. Mcinerny is like a young lohan, someone should buy him a red helmet :D

I think he has got 4 Man Of The Match awards now in a row. That's some achievement.

3 in a row I think, He came out of a few shamozzles last night with the ball when he had no right to, class act for a young lad.

If the steering was the only issue I'd fix it. However bales are getting heavier and last summer I was helping a neighbour line them up. The last ~25% got an average enough shower and the 165 couldn't manage them:rolleyes:

I'll probably knock another year our if it but if a 168 or 188 came up I'd probably go for it. It will be my only tractor so which would be better?

Go for the 188,more power, longer wheel base which means a lot when lifting round bales and a pure solid dog of a tractor, we had one for years.
