Hatred of animal abuse

Is it just me or is the physical abuse of animals much more frowned upon than the physical abuse of humans?

Personally, physical abuse of animals, dogs in particular, boils my blood whereas I honestly wouldn't bat an eye at humans being attacked or beaten up, provided they weren't elderly or children.

Maybe it's because they're more helpless than people and can't speak out.

Human abuse, without a doubt. I'm not a huge animal lover.

Animals aren't comparable to humans at all in my opinion. I'll never understand how people can say that an animal's suffering angers them more than a humans. Maybe its because they are misanthropes and find refuge in animals because they can be more innocent and harmless?

I don't really understand it either. I think it's because of their helplessness. Similar to the way in which child abuse is much worse than abuse of adults to one another imo

Abuse of humans would anger me more (both are terrible ofc). I feel sad for people who are unable to understand that humans are more important than animals (a lot of people seem to think that around here :pac:).

There's an honesty and purity in animals that people sympathise with.
I'd rather get a kick in the hole than someone doing it to my dog.
Probably because I feel I could come to terms with it better, whereas my dog would be scared and confused.

But we're not, we can't live without them. They could survive without us grand, we're only new to the planet.

Well I hate the phrase 'treated like an animal'

Animals are just that, animals, and are trying to survive in a harsh envrironment.

No abuse, full stop. Anyone caught should be severly dealt with.

Hate to see both abused. I love animals especially dogs and if any one abused them I would be livid. But also seeing the children and adults who died in a chemical attack in Syria just boils my blood.
How the rest if the world can sit back and allow this to happen is beyond belief.

Could you explain how animals are more important than humans?

i hate both, i also hate when a dog or cat gets killed by a speeding driver and then it's automatically the pet owners fault yet if it was a person who got killed the driver gets most of the blame.

I wouldn't do either and I hate both.
But as a mother, my thoughts go to my own son when I hear of child abuse and I just can't imagine how anyone could hurt a defenceless child, so I abhor abuse of people more due to that.

I guess because pets are meant to be watched as they are likely to get into trouble and are not as aware of certain dangers than humans? A dog may run across a busy road without looking to get a ball, and so will a child. A grown, intelligent human being wouldn't, therefore the blame is directed at a different source

I thought your post was insinuating that, my mistake.

'Dumb' animals as in they can't protest against ill treatment. The dog is most at risk from this behaviour as they rely so much on the owner.

A cat won't stand for it. To quote Mark Twain..

'By what right has the dog come to be regarded as a noble animal? The more brutal and cruel and unjust you are to him the more your fawning and adoring slave he becomes, whereas, if you shamefully misuse a cat once she will always maintain a dignified reserve toward you afterward.... You will never get her full confidence again.'

I think that is the reasoning with the strong hatred of animal abuse, the animals tend to be defenceless and vulnerable, with minimal protection from laws.

that's what i'm trying to get at, if a small child gets knocked down by a driver going over the speed limit the driver gets alot of the blame (along with the parents) yet if it was the same situation with an animal the pet owner gets all the blame

What a ridiculously stupid comparison to make.

That should garner you a few thanks, well done. :)

Seriously though, I was reading a thread not so long ago where people wanted dogs to be allowed on public transport. The inane reasoning from these types was cringe worthy. Their total disregard for other people who may be travelling on buses, not to mention the safety concerns...

But that whole thread is a can of worms best left unopened! :pac:

A lot of people I've talked to about this couldn't care less about a stranger being hit on a night out for example, and possibly ending up with a broken nose or whatever. Yet if a stray dog was laced a kick or had something thrown at it there'd be uproar among many of them and some would nearly physically assault the aggressor.

    It's a strange one!

Animal, elderly, child abuse would be equally upsetting for me, For me its the thought that they werent able to defend themselves and have an innocent and trusting way about them especially animals and small children.

I love this whole thing of which is more important, humans or animals.
Important in what sense? And to whom? Humans are certainly not more important to the planet.
And what animals are we more important than?
What's more important actually, an aardvark or a porcupine?

You know what, no form of abuse (I'm excluding consenting adults here) is ok. No defenceless being should be subjected to mental or physical torture or pain, or the fear of same.

The "people" who inflict any of the above are abhorrent and should be shunned.
