Aye the full service history mostly isn't more than a couple of stamps in the book

At this level of the game it really doesn't matter all that much though, does it?

The car I bought last week had a severe lack of service history for the last few years. Great condition car though and checked out in great detail before I bought it. Several things wrong with it and most was fixed in the last few days. Big bill! Big bill + price I paid for the car was still less than asking price for the car so I'm happy enough

    My ads on adverts.ie:

Victron stuff for sale, Multiplus-II, Quattro, other inverters and batteries and usually some watches!

Not at all in my opinion.

If the car looks right, drives right and has the signs it's been looked after than I'm happy enough.

If it's priced right, I'm thinking enough to have a t/belt kit done and still be undercutting everything else, I'm happy enough.

Again from experience, you'll drive 100 miles after talking to the seller only to see when you look in the book they're full of shyte.

It's a kick in the stones.

I did buy a car however from the UK without viewing (dodgy I know) that came exactly as described down to the miles on the clock.

Actually now that I think of it I've owned 4 cars with full and verifiable service histories

One had 43 stamps in the service book

It's a pain in the ass alright, but every private advert has an element of risk attached I guess. Buyer beware and all that.

Going back to the Volvo I posted, in hindsight the miles do seem a bit low to be true but you'd never know..!

As I always say, call and see what you think of the seller.

I always just get a 'feeling' and go from there. It's worked and failed in the past though but I'm getting better as I go along :)

Seeing a few cars being sold by dealers has put me off completely from even considering buying from them. Private sale is your only man. At this level of the game. Fair enough if you want to buy a €20k car and you want to buy it from a dealer, but once you go €5k or €2k or lower, a history or warranty means very little...

    Hi all.

I know Saabs are now barred from here, but friend of a friend is selling supposingly quite a pristine 01 9-3 Aero.

It is not advertised anywhere and I have only seen the car in pictures but it has valid NCT and only 49000 genuine miles. It's red and not faded. Not sure about the service history.

He is stuck for money and looking for a quick sale. Looking for 2000€, but when I said that it is very unlikely he will get as much on quick sale he said he will take offers.

If anybody is interested I'll try to get more information and pictures.

I'm not getting anything from the sale and he is not even my friend, so hopefully I wont upset the mods in here.

Just thought somebody might appreciate the car.

Yeah, spot on. I bought my current car ('99 E36 318is) a year and a half ago for €1300 without a FSH and I haven't had a single problem until yesterday, great car to drive.

My best friend has emigrated to sunnier climes & his beloved mk4 2002 Highline 5dr 1.6l Golf is for sale at €2.4k but I have a sneaky feeling you would get it for less ;-) His brother is selling it on his behalf very genuine original car

He is looking for a staggering €2,450 and unless you're pretty sure he knows his asking price is about 25% too high, you risk getting banned from here :p

well i know what you mean Johnboy but he paid a lot more for it in 2011 & its his price to ask whatever he seems fair at the time..he has already moved & luckily enough isnt stuck for the cash atm..

Of course it's his right to ask for whatever amount he want's for it:). However cars do depreciate and what he paid for it two years ago will have little bearing on what it's true worth is now. IMHO that is well below 2k at this stage.

The price is over 2000, and as for driving it myself, there is nothing about that car I like, and that's coming from someone who loves Mk4s.

I had already mentioned 3 times he would take offers of 2k why can you not seem to grasp that? 2.4k is just his haggling starting point for the donedealerz ,no harm in that

This is a nice car, if I had the money I'd buy.
    Nearly one year NCT.
