Would he feel safe praying in a Christian manner in a Muslim country?

We'r getting carried away with this human rights carry on. There's a man out of work now because of red tape and political correctness.

There's a man out of work now because he was clearly unsuited to his job, He had some cheek to talk to those women like that, Ignorance of the highest order, How could he be so thick as to think the women would believe that they couldn't pray there.. Fool probably thought because they were foreigners that he could pull the wool over their eyes and intimidate them, Well his thickness rebounded on him as the women could well yet end up with a few bob out of it and he won't work in security again as he is a liability...

A lot of that is speculative though. I'd be interested to know his side of the story.

Well in fairness "needing a permit to pray" is a classic and the rest of it about suing the council is laughable..His side of the story could well be comedy gold..

What if you're caught out and about when The Angelus starts? Think it through, for God's sake! There would be chaos if we all had to find a church at that very moment!

'tis true for you. I learned ventriloquism and knitted a geansaí with a kangaroo pouch so I can say the rosary incognito.

Was in Morocco last week and there was loads of churches in the city I visited (Tangiers) and a fair few synagogues as well. People didn't really care what religion you were tbh. A fairly liberal bunch. Some women wore a head scarf - a lot didnt. I was actually told that if you were in a bar and saw a women wearing the whole muslim top to bottom get up (sorry dont know the name - they actually might be prostitutes).

I actually did see Mother Theresas crowd walking around in their habits. People have very strange views of muslim nations which bear no relation to how they actually are or how they are portrayed. Only bad things make the news.

When I was in Bosnia most muslim girls were wearing mini skirts.

Every Islmaic nation is quite different to the the other. I mean Russia is a Christian country but if a Muslim visited Moscow and drew parallels with Galway it would be plain stupid. Its the same say with Tunisia and Saudia Arabia. Two totally different cultures. To say a muslim country means virtually nothing.

Whatever you do don't upset a Muslim... I can't help wonder if it was 2 people doing yoga that were told to stop would the man have been suspended.

Morocco would probably be considered one of the most liberal muslim countries in the world - at the opposite end of the scale to the likes of Saudi Arabia. Home to some smokin' hot women as well (Morocco).

OT, I would definitely wait to hear the employees side of the story first, he might have a very different version of what was said.

Of course, it's all a conspiracy to placate 'the Muslims'.

I initially read this story on Yahoo! and here are some of the lovely comments left by the prejudiced and worryingly fascist-sounding folk who posted about it:

"We the Irish and English MUST unite to defend our ancestral homelands..period..Think about it AND PUT THE PAST ASIDE...
If you disagree with this comment you are (1) ill informed (2) your non white european"

"How dare these people bring their muslim religion to Ireland or the uk.I wonder what would happen Christians and other religions if we prayed openly in muslim countries.I blame the liberal left wing rats for whats happening to our countries."

"I bet these muslims and welfare leeches were also given irish passports ,i guess we have shatter and ahern to thank for what this country has become.Time to ban Islam in this catholic country"

"its only a matter of time before they will have their towers, with some idiot wailing every few hours to let them know its prayer time, can the people of Ireland not see how subtley this Islam business is sneaking very quickly and growing by the day, this is a travesty for Ireland,in 2 and half years Shatter and Kenny have destroyed this country with immigration, and this is whats happening now as a result of Shatter`s open immigration policies."

^ There's plenty more of 'em along those lines; "liberal left wing rats" is a particular favourite of mine. *facepalm*

I will add that i do think the man was in the wrong. But suspended is a bit harsh. Its only religion.. so what.. same as telling someone not to do yoga.

...except no one ever tells someone not to do yoga in a park. Especially because they might hurt their back.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Really helpful remark! Dare I suggest that the two ladies in question or their fellow Muslims might disagree with you on that.

That is real hardcore stuff there. Since when has this country been a "catholic country"? I always considered it a Christian country.

Outlaw all religous superstition nonsense, no mote churches, mosques, synagogues, our country will be a much better place when it happens

While you're at it, why don't you throw in a brown shirt, some jackboots and start practicing your goose step.

I'm an atheist with a strong distaste for religion, but this is utterly ridiculous bigotry. Moronic.

Its very simple no religion where people have to live with what they don't want. And a park is where we don't want FFS... and it doesn't matter what religion it is, christian, muslin, jehovahs witness, morans, weirdy sciencetology people... they can all just fuck right off

funny yesterday i was looking through a thread where a guy was not very happy because he saw topless women in a beach when he went for a stroll with his kids, everyone was attacking him with things like 'its a free country' now when i read this post i see most people speaking against it, they prayed in a public park, a prayer takes roughly 5 minutes and then they'd be off.
    whats wrong with that?

Well you don't know enough about the guy really to make that call. He deserves a right of reply.

It's not at all that simple IMO. If people want to pray quietly in a corner of a park, I couldn't care less - it doesn't affect me remotely and it would be bad form to stop them.

This is a republic, not a theocracy and we are not defined by the superstitions of the population like Israel or Saudi Arabia.

Fair enough it doesn't bother you.

But it does bug the **** outta others, so in a park it shouldn't be permitted, and I include all religions in that, including evangilism, the legion of mary, the scientologists with their character tests. Its all ****e and has no part to play in a secular world.

Biggest Mosque in the country is about to be built up behind Father Collins Park in Donaghmede,Dublin 13.

It will be a state of the art facility and will also have swimming pool, media centre and social club too.

    Apparently.....
The alleged incident happened as the women knelt in Griffith Park,
Drumcondra, north Dublin, during one of the five daily calls to prayer that
    Muslims must observe.

One of the women, called Sajida, told the Irish Examiner she and
a friend felt threatened and humiliated when the driver of a security van drew
up and shouted that there was “no praying in the park”.

    Sajida claims the
man told them they needed a permit to pray.

“I asked him where did it say
that, to show me the policy,” she told the paper.

    “He then said we could
break our backs when we stood up and sue Dublin City Council.
